Chapter 19: CHAPTER 18: LOST FOCUS

"You are killing me here man!" Min exclaimed groaning loudly and I am taken aback by his sudden outburst. I guess it wasn't sudden seeing how Hossein doesn't seem surprised or bothered by it.

"Hmm! what did I do?" I wonder what he's on about right now.

"What, what did you do?" Min repeated in exasperation.

"You're seriously asking me that right now? I looked between him and Hossein and back at him again like he'd grown two heads.

"Has he been here the whole time while I was talking or did I just imagine having a full blown conversation with you and him?" He made a dramatic gesture of hands towards Hossein and I sighed. I'd really love to be on whatever he is on right now. He's just too energetic for his own good sometimes.

"You see that? That's what I'm talking about" He exclaimed again pulling his perfectly styled hair aggressively in frustration and Hossein made a move to stop him before he actually pulls his hair out.

He might just really go bald if he keeps pulling his hair like that whenever he's frustrated.

I still have no idea what he's on about though.

Seriously! What's his problem?

"You haven't stopped sighing and spacing out since you walked in here and heaven knows you're not paying attention to a word I'm saying. So out with it"-- I made a sound to speak but he me cuts me off saying...

"Don't you dare deny it! I was talking about some hot chick I met earlier today and you didn't even blink. Like an actual girl bro! Who are you and what have you done to my brother?

Okay, I see his point. I literally never pass on any topic about girls, like ever!

"What's up with you mate?" Why is he asking me that? Is that like a trick question or something? What does he know?

"Nothing's up with me, why do you ask?" I tried answering his question as calm as possible and he snorted.

"I might not know what the problem is but I know something is wrong" He said making sure I know he wasn't backing down without a fight. He's not going to let this go, is he?

"You said nothing is wrong and you try to act like nothing is wrong but we can tell there's something on your mind so why don't you do us a favor and spit it out already. I really don't wanna force it out of you" I winced looking at Hossein silently begging him with my eyes to help but he shakes his head as if saying I'm on my own and I rolled my eyes.

Traitor!

"Nothing's wrong..." I tried repeating the same old lie but they both glared at me so I swallowed it deciding to change it to a different lie.

"Nothing's wrong, at least not with me anyways." Even Hossein couldn't hide his surprise or try to act cool this time. Great! Looks like I've got their attention. It's now or never.

"You know the thing about Mom and Maya's father. I'm just worried that it'll drive Mom and Maya further apart considering how their relationship was before all this I don't know how it'll affect them in the future"

Technically this is not so much a lie but it wasn't what I was thinking about at the moment. However, this will have to do for now. I can't tell them about what really happened between Maya and I, it's too embarrassing.

Min made an 'Oh' sound slumping on the sofa chewing on his bottom lip nervously looking visibly uncomfortable. Min doesn't really do emotions or conflict as a whole so I get how uncomfortable this must be for him and I do feel bad for lying to them but I can't bring myself to tell them what's really on my mind.

I'm sorry guys, I really can't tell you the real reason I'm like this.

"I have been thinking about that too" Hossein voiced making Min raise his head. I can't say I'm surprised. If anyone's going to be worried or think about anything that has to do with Maya at a time like this it'll be him.

"Have you seen Maya since that day?" Hossein asked me.

Why did he ask me that?

"No I haven't" I lied through my teeth. "Why?" I asked In return.

"I don't know, I'm just wondering why she won't meet up when I asked to meet. It just feels like she's avoiding me or something." He mumbled dejectedly.

"She's not avoiding you but me" I wanted to say to him but I couldn't. How do I tell him that without telling him about our little situation.

Hossein cares about Maya a lot and for some strange reason she cares about him too even though I don't like how close they are I gotta admit that their relationship is unique in an annoying kind of way.

I get jealous when they're together and it kills me to say this but It makes me happy when they're together because you can actually see Hossein let his guard down and be himself with her and he hardly does that with anyone except Min and I.

"Have you tried going to her place? She might just be busy with school or something" I said trying to sound as neutral as I can.

"I did go to her place, she hasn't been home in a couple of days" Wiat, what? Why am I just hearing about this now?

Hossein must have seen the panic look on my face when he spoke because he raised his brows and I composed myself.

"Where's she staying?" I asked clearing my throat suddenly feeling restless and light headed.

"I ran into Eric yesterday and he said she's staying at Sasha's"

I couldn't help but wonder if she's doing alright. If she's eating or sleeping well. I guess anyone would be shaken up by what happened yet I have no way of knowing all of that.

I suppose it'll be strange if I suddenly ask how she's doing too. I didn't have enough time to look at her when I ran into her earlier but I could tell she's not alright.

Speaking as someone who's been patrolling Maya's faculty in hopes of running in her, I don't doubt for a second that she's doing everything within her power to avoid me and the thought of that really stings.
