Chapter 22: Freedom and Blood

"Elder Crimson Head..." Jonathan murmured calmer than usual.

What he remembered was that the Elder Crimson Head was the first zombie of this kind, characterized by being more dangerous and resistant than the common ones. This zombie ended up killing some Umbrella operatives, so it was confined in a coffin in the basement, accessed through the cemetery.

Therefore, Jonathan knew that a few shotgun shells, typically three to five, are usually enough to eliminate it. It is advisable, however, to be in good condition in case things go wrong.

"Here it comes..." Jonathan muttered, still numb from the growls of this special Zombie.

Jill didn't even move; she held a shotgun, and together with Jonathan, they both fired five times each, and the zombie's head was completely shattered.

After this zombie fell to the ground, Jonathan, just in case, shot twice more.

Bang! Bang!

Making sure it was dead, he approached and said, "Its isolated time obviously caused it to undergo more mutation, as this monster is much stronger than its counterparts, and you can suffer much more damage from it..."

"But it's dead, right?" Jill approached the coffin and picked up a lever, then asked, "What is this?"

"There should be a switch somewhere in this place; the design of this mansion was created so that each place isolates one of these biological weapons... I'm not surprised that this monster was left here after experimenting with it, but it's still a surprise how much it evolved."

"Another mechanism... What a crazy mansion!"

Jill complained quietly and stored the emblem: "Let's go see where this emblem can be used."

After speaking, the two climbed the stairs back to the mansion.

On the way, according to Jonathan's memories, he found an iron door and a mechanism that fit perfectly with the emblem Jill had taken.

Once installed, the side iron door could be opened.

Inside the door was a cabin. Jonathan then found two sets of batteries, and on the other side of the cabin, there was a wooden door.

Outside the wooden door is a deep courtyard.

"If everything's the same as before, there should be monsters in this place..." Jonathan recalled as they silently moved through the area.

Jill nodded; she wasn't so foolish as to walk calmly without considering that at any moment a monster would jump to attack.

This time, Jonathan didn't take the lead; he let Jill lead the way since she had much more experience in noticing details so that both would be free from surprises.

After walking a few meters, with the help of a flashlight, they could see some trees around that made it impossible to figure out what was ahead.

Holding the grenade launcher, Jonathan remembered that the first appearance of the Lisa monster was in this place.

Once this place was explored, Jonathan knew that he would have mostly completed the missions assigned to him, so everything would be much easier from this point on.

As known, Lisa, who is the first survivor of the experiments in this laboratory, was in this place and was a type of monster that could kill a person with just one attack.

She was left here when a sample of the G-Virus was finally extracted from Lisa's body; Umbrella lost interest in her. As time passed, loneliness and isolation, combined with the mutagen within her system, made Lisa increasingly violent, in addition to the horrible physical deformities and the trauma of her mother's death.

In one of her fits of rage, she brutally murdered three Umbrella employees, prompting her swift termination in mid-1995, on the Spencer estate, deemed a potential threat. However, mutation had turned the senseless beast into a practically invulnerable, if not immortal, being, and Umbrella had to find a way to eliminate her at all costs.

But all attempts were unsuccessful... Even an anti-tank missile was unable to harm her and only slammed her against a wall, and after three days of shooting her and checking her vital signs, about to be declared dead, she woke up and killed several of her attackers. Hoping that time would eventually take its toll on her, Umbrella's men chained Lisa by hands and feet, leaving her to wander the catacombs of the Mansion in search of her mother.

At this point, Jonathan and Jill advanced cautiously.

But at that moment, Barry's voice suddenly came from an intercom, confirming Jonathan's assumption and mentioning that he had encountered Rebecca, who was alone.

"Zz... Chained... A dangerous monster."

"Zz... Weapons don't work against this."

"Zz... Don't approach the forest outside the mansion."

"Zz... Stay away from that place!"

Possibly the signal was bad, but Barry's voice seemed very anxious.

Soon, there was no sound emitted.

Jill was a bit puzzled, "A monster with shackles?"

Jonathan frowned and said, "In the diary, Mr. Trevor's daughter was injected with a mutant virus and turned into a monster, and dealing with her was really difficult due to how evolved her body was. Therefore, we should run if we encounter her."

"What if we retreat now?" Obviously, Jill was a bit wary of this.

But Jonathan needed to explore everything in-depth; otherwise, he would be seeking his own death, so he said, "There's nothing to worry about. We're fast, so we could escape if we encountered her."

"Come on, since there's this kind of place, there must be some important accessories that can reveal more clues about this place..." Jonathan couldn't back down at this point, so he took the lead.

Following the fenced path, a wooden house appeared in front of him.

The two entered, searched, and found a crank.

This is really an essential accessory for the ongoing events of the story.

Jonathan is thinking that the next time he enters the dungeon, he will prepare all the tools in advance to avoid continuous wandering in the place. When something like this appears, he will have at least many more chances to forcibly open these locks than playing the fool looking for accessories to enter.

Seeing that there were no other items, Jill turned around and wanted to leave the wooden house. But suddenly, in the corner of the door, a monster with hands shackled appeared, bent over, and whose face could no longer be clearly seen.

The monster threw the shackles at Jill.

"Be careful!"

Boom!

"Let's get out of here now; there's no need to confront her." Jonathan wasn't foolish; at least until this place is destroyed, Lisa won't die.
