Chapter 28: Entrance Exam (6)

I looked at the dummy in front of me with a broad gaze. My hands were in my pocket and I waited for the exam to start. Out of the corner of my eye, I did see the person watching over us frown but I ignored it.

While I could've easily dodged all of them I wanted to give the instructors a little taste of what I could do.

Now to them, it may seem like there was probably more that I was letting on however, that wouldn't be the case.

I estimated that I would be in the top 200 if I went all out.

'But you can have an automatic ticket cause of your talent'

The logical part of my brain screamed.

'Why bother showing off?'

However, I ignored it.

Looking at the dummy I noticed a pattern of runes lighting up.

'Fireball'

Thanks to my gift I was able to easily read and understand the runes. However, copying them was another issue.

The fireballs came at me however, I simply stepped side to side dodging them. Looking back at the dummy I noticed that its runes were lighting up in a different pattern causing me to start flowing my mana.

The name I decided to give to this gimmick of mine was "Distortion". This was simply because it slightly destroyed the area around me.

Out of the corner of my, I did see the watcher raise his brow in surprise.

Looking ahead I was easily able to see green blades coming at me with a trembus speed. However, once they reached 1 meter away from me they stopped. My right eye turned a bright golden before I was able to analyze the spell.

The next second the blades of wind disappeared.

Turning my attention to the dummy I watched another set of runes light up as spheres of water appeared before they turned into spears of ice.

The four spears launched toward me however, again they stopped a meter away from me. After a few seconds, the spears simply disappeared as if they were never there.

However, then many earth spears formed and headed toward me with a fast speed only to be forcibly stopped in the air this time 15 centimetres away from me. Sweat dripped down my cheek as I looked at the spear.

'Fuck that's one hell of an attack'

The spear then disappeared.

Looking ahead I quickly grabbed my sword as lightning crackled around me. Looking at the fireballs that formed faster than last time I let out a breath as I activated my art [Lightning Reflex].

After quickly dodging them and activating distortion again I blocked the wind blades before dispelling them.

Dispelling spells wasn't exactly rare. In Nexus it was something the students learned in rune classes.

Although most of the students currently couldn't do it. But thanks to my gift I was easily able to read the runes and dispel them by remembering the knowledge from my novel. It had explained in detail how they could dispel runes and considering I was able to grasp the knowledge of this world I could use that knowledge to my advantage.

After clearing the second level I then started to use the basic flow technique to enhance my body and mana flow.

I kept dodging the attacks however, after a while a dummy stopped causing me to take a breath. But I quickly started to flow my mana as I saw the bright orbs which then started to create giant lazer-like fireballs which launched toward me.

The area in front of me distorted again causing the spell to explode when it blade contact.

But thanks to that it created smoke which hindered my vision. But that didn't matter as I activated my gift again. While I could've dispelled them that would've taken too much energy.

I was quickly able to block the wind blades and quickly dodged the water spears but then the earth spears launched toward me and cut through distortion like butter.

'Crap!'

I watched as the brown spear slowly got closer and closer. Before I could do anything else I felt a tugging sensation before I was launched back.

"Ooof," Landing on my ass I watched the spear turn into particles.

Getting up from the ground I walked over to where the other people who completed the exam were standing.

I did notice some glances, some friendly while some weren't.

I then remembered the next exam.

It wasn't exactly something special.

But it was a good way for me to get some insight into the other youths who could attend the academy.

Most of the people here are from rich families however, some come from common backgrounds. This wouldn't exactly be a major problem in the story in the beginning as it was dealt with however, it would still be a pain.

But my eyes widened as I looked at a certain person.

Light blue hair.

Violet eyes.

And a handsome face.

'Didn't expect him to be here'

His name was Nathaniel Reed. He was a side character in the novel however, despite that his strength was no joke.

Once they all became adults he was able to take the 8th rank in the Player's Association. His background wasn't anything special in fact he was living with his single mother and younger sister.

'Recruiting him might be a pain though'

I did want to recruit him however, the problem is that Nathaniel hated the high-class folk. This causes him to be in conflict with Issac and the rest of the main characters at the beginning of the story.

But later he did mature a little and becomes friends with the main cast. Despite that, however, he didn't join a guild but instead the Player's Association which was less profitable than joining a guild.

'Ah whatever'

I looked at another youth who was going to take the test.

The youth was wielding 2 daggers which told me that he was probably an assassin-type fighter.

However, as the dummies turned on I watched as the runes glowed before a ball of fire was created. The ball then launched toward the youth who quickly dodged them.

Then the runes changed creating wind blades which launched toward him. But he was able to effortlessly move between them.

It was the same with the water spears and earth spears.

However, once he got to the 4th level that's when he was about to get hit by a water spear he was dragged back.

'Not bad'

After most of the people finished we were then led back to the lounge.

Finding a seat I then thought about the next exam.

For the next exam, we had to kill a holographic monster using AR vision. However, it didn't really matter to me as I'd be able to beat it but I was a bit scared about my written portion.

'Now that I think about it I probably should've taken 7 stars or maybe 8 stars'

With my high talent, I'd be in the eyes of some of the instructors when I got in. Some of those instructors would make my academy life hell if I showed that I was extremely talented.

However, I snapped out of my thoughts as my number was called.
