Chapter 5: Chapter 5

Derrick sat staring daggers at the talisman, he couldn't understand the words encrypted on it but slowly after much trail and error he finally knew what he was meant to do.

Getting up from the stool be sat on, he gave a deep sigh to calm himself. " This isn't something I can deal with, with a normal magic spell." He said to himself.

He waved his hands in the air a few times and almost instantly a brush similar to an average paint brush appeared in his hands.

He began writing different signs midair, each shining brightly with a golden hue and almost instantly just as he was writing letters from the talisman started glowing.

It appeared as though it was in resonance with the letters Derrick was inscribing in the air. The letters from the talisman emerged and quickly started merging with the letters he wrote on the air.

An ominous aura spread outwards, it was so dense that it seemed to be choking, Derrick was a bit alarmed by the sudden change however he wasn't bothered by it either.

Suddenly the aura died out and a huge rebound occured as the whole process was reversed.

"Hmm, it's just as I thought" said Derrick having seen what had happened.

"This talisman has something to do with the forbidden magic, how did such a dangerous object find it's way here" hastily he left the room to inform the Lord.

Gerald was sitted in his throne room, gulping down cups of wine, with his stomach bulging outwards.

He seemed to be enjoying his time. Entering into the room was Derrick, and this looked to be good news for him.

"Derrick, so tell me how was it?" He asked in anticipation.

"Well, I tried activating the talisman but it didn't work, it needs a sacrifice to be activated, which is not adviceable to do"

"Why do you say so?" Gerald asked anxiously

"Any magical item that needs a sacrifice to be activated is seen as a forbidden item, because they usually make use of forbidden magic"

"Forget all that crap, if it's the dead bodies you need, I'll give em all to you" replied Gerald laughing hysterically as though he'd lost his mind.

"That bastard garmond has to pay for insulting my prestige"

Derrick didn't know what to say, infact he was stupified. It seemed as though the lord was actually running mad. But at the moment there was nothing he could do as he had already signed a contract of allegiance, and breaking such an agreement would spell his death.

This was because it was a magical contract. "As you wish Lord Gerald, but do be warned things like this might carry a lot of consequences" said Derrick, nodding inwardly in disappointment.

"Yeah, yeah I know all that already. Don't sound like my mom" said Gerald, heavy headed.

Leaving the throne room, Derrick stopped right by the side of the two guards who were guarding the chamber.

"By the kings order, get me fifty women, bring them all to the tower"

"Right away, sir" replied the guard as he went to enact the orders of the king. Derrick wasn't bothered because generally everything that benefitted the lord also indirectly benefits him and it went vice versa.

And that was why he didn't even revolt against the drunk lord's word.

*********

The bright sun swatted down on the kingdom. Garmond had already prepared the best of his men for the fight ahead.

He made sure that they were all those with high ranks to avoid any casualties or possible death.

Theresa also stood by his side as he chose them all one by one, apparently she was the one guiding him on who to pick.

He wasn't against this because originally, back in his middle school days she was the strongest of the class. It was somewhat weird seeing a woman in the training field camp but she was there and was also the best.

If it wasn't for his armor and his sword, he was sure he'd never be able to beat her, except in bed.

"...No, don't pick this one, I don't think he has the balls, he'd probably run away if he sees them from far" she said blatantly, not even sparing him a glance. The latter flushed red in embarrassment but he knew he couldn't do a thing.

He could hear the others discussing behind him just after what she'd said, they were even letting out small chuckles from time to time.

He didn't need a soothe sayer to tell him how he'd turned to the topic of the day.

"I think that's enough people, I don't want to go there for a fight, it's just for enquiry" said Garmond with content as he appraised the soldiers once again.

"Are you sure?" Theresa asked, trying to hide her worry which was still very much written all over her face. " You know these are not warriors we are talking about, they're magicians. They can have a far range advantage" she added worriedly.

"Doesn't mean I can't thrust a sword or spear" Garmond retorted with a smile.

'Nut head, what'd you think a spear can do ? Seems like you really just want to go and die" Theresa cursed inwardly, forcing a smile in reality.

The only luck he had was that at the moment they were both outside the castle and she couldn't disregard or disrespect his position.

"Alright then feel free to do your mind" she said, still putting up with her artificial smile as she walked away l, heading towards the castle.

When she arrived at the castle gates, she paused slightly turning to see his figure addressing his men. "Please come back in time and be safe for the sake of our children" she said under her breath.

"We will be leaving soon, and will be setting sails, so prepare yourselfs. I don't expect to take much time doing this task." Said Garmond with a stern voice.

'I just hope we don't have to face too much trouble' he thought
