Chapter 7: CHAPTER 7. CALL ME MOM.
"Damn, your mom is badass" Odessa said placing both hands on her face and smiling from ear to ear. "She even stood up for you".
Alessia on hearing this wasn't really sure if Ophelia stood up for her. 'Did she stand up for me? Did she really fight for me?' She asked herself. "Nah, I don't think she did it for me" she said shaking her head. It was absolutely ridiculous for her to think that Ophelia actually stood up for her. 'Why would she fight for me? Why would she stand up for me?' She said to herself smiling bitterly. "What do you mean, she absolutely stood up for you" Odessa said confused. "She did it to save face in front of Dylan she didn't really do it for me. I've known her my whole life and she has never stood up a day for me. So what she did wasn't for me but for herself, for the pack". Alessia said with a look of pain. Odessa felt bad for her friend. She didn't like seeing her sad.
After awhile "Ummm, let's talk about your birthday party celebration, you heard the Luna it's tomorrow". Odessa said in an attempt to change the topic and brighten Alessia's mood. Seems like it worked because Alessia focus was now on Odessa. "Yes, I almost forgot".
Meanwhile, Ophelia who was about to knock on Alessia's door paused hearing what she said 'She did it to save face in front of Dylan she didn't really do it for. I've known her my whole life and she has never stood up a day for me. So what she did wasn't for me but for herself, for the pack'. 'What!! Is that what she thinks' Ophelia said to herself feeling really bad. Recalling all scenes from when Alessia was growing up and how bad she had been bullied she realized something. She had been present but never said anything to stop the people bullying her. She recalled a certain time when Alessia was been bullied and Lessia had looked at her with hope in her eyes, Lessia had begged her for help with her eyes but she didn't do anything. That was the last time she ever tried asking her for help. "I really deserve everything she said. What kind of a mother have I been to her" she asked herself. She decided not to go in and see Alessia anymore. As she was about to leave she heard Odessa said 'Ummm, let's talk about your birthday party celebration, you heard the Luna it's tomorrow' that's right this is exactly why she wanted to see her daughter. She then had an idea 'I should make up for lost times, what if she finds her mate tomorrow and leaves, what do I do. I should try to mend things and explain things to her although no amount of explanation can change what I did to her but at least I should try and I'll start from helping her with preparing for her birthday party'. She felt really terrible. Oh how she wishes to go back in time and change things. But she knew better than to mess with time. She has a firsthand experience on the consequences of time traveling and changing the past.
'Knock knock' just then Alessia and Odessa heard a knock outside. "It's the Luna" Odessa said catching a whiff of Ophelia's scent. Alessia and Odessa looked at themselves confused. "Come in" Alessia said. Ophelia opened the door and walked in with a box in her hand. 'She's the one' Alessia said to herself looking at Ophelia with shocked filled eyes and her mouth agape. There was an awkward silence as both mother and daughter stared at each other. One was besides herself with guilt while the other was shocked doubting her sights. 'How can it be' Alessia murmured.
"Cough cough" Odessa coughed. "Ummm, I thought you might need help getting ready for your birthday party tomorrow" Ophelia said. "Uhh, oh yeah. Yes, I need help" Alessia replied instantly. 'Why did I just do that' she questioned herself. "OK then let's get down to business" Ophelia said excitedly. She was happy that Alessia didn't drive her away. "I got you this dress" she said to Alessia handing the box she was holding to her. Actually she just used her magic to produce the dress before she knocked on the door. "I hope you like it" she said when Alessia received the box. Alessia took the box from Ophelia and opened it. Inside the box was a beautiful blue ball gown. She wasn't expecting it. "Thank you" she said out of habit. "It's nothing" Ophelia replied. Odessa took a look at the dress and screamed "Oh My Daze!!!! It's so beautiful". She brought it out of the box and urged Alessia to try it on. With Odessa's help, she got dressed in the blue ball gown. "The gown compliments your eyes" Odessa said to her excitedly. Alessia had blue ocean eyes this she took from her mom. Taking off the gown, Odessa careful placed it aside.
"Okay so we've gotten the gown, I'll take care of your hair and makeup tomorrow, the things left are your shoe and jewelry". Odessa declared. "I'll handle it" Ophelia said. Alessia was surprised that Ophelia was willing to help. "Thank you Luna" she said. "Call me mom" Ophelia said to her. "Huh?" Alessia asked stunned in place. 'What did she just say? Nope I didn't hear correctly' she said to herself. "I said call me mom". Ophelia repeated. Seems like she heard correctly. 'Did she just ask me to call her mom? Why?' Alessia asked herself. She didn't even see her as one so how would she refer to her as one. Ophelia wasn't surprised that Alessia went mute, nope, she had expected it. But it still hurt. She decided to explain everything to her. "I need to tell you something". Ophelia told Alessia.
Odessa seeing the situation decided to give them space to sort their differences. "I'd be leaving, I need to meet with Meher. The both of you should sort your shit out". And with that she left the room, relying on her sense of smell to find Meher.
Ophelia walked over to Alessia. Placing her hand on her shoulder, she hugged her. "I'm sorry for not been there for you all those while when you needed me" she said tears streaming down her face. "Why are you telling me this now?" Alessia said choking on tears. "Because I'm feeling guilty, I've always been". Ophelia said helplessly. She sat down and continued "I know no amount of apology or explanation can change the fact that I've hurt you but I want you to know that I'm sorry, I really am and I want to be here for you now, I want to be your mom not just your Luna or Ophelia" she said. "Why? Why now?" Alessia asked. "I, I don't know but please, please give me a chance" Ophelia begged desperately.
Alessia took in deep breaths. "At least there should be reasons to why you did what you did. Right?" Ophelia kept quiet. "Well if you're going to apologize and try to walk into my life you should be willing to give me an explanation". Alessia said.
"I'm not proud of the things I did to you but I'll give you an explanation". Ophelia corrected her sitting posture and continued. "I did what I did to you because I was trying to bring out your elements. It may sound crazy to you but that was my reason. I read somewhere that anger and pain can force out one's element so I let others bully you because I thought the situation will force out your elements". Alessia couldn't believe her ears "so you let me suffer because..." she couldn't complete her statement. "So you hate me? You hate me because I don't have an element?" Alessia asked heartbroken.
"No,no, I never hated" Ophelia responded quickly. "Then why?" Alessia asked again. "Because in our world you'll need your elements to survive. My conscience has always dealt with me for treating you the way I did but I did it anyways because I thought as a mother I was doing you good. In our world you and I know that you can't survive without your elements. At first I told myself that I'll always be there for you but I asked myself 'will you always be there for her, every time?' and the answer is no. Because at some point you'll need to be your own person. So I let them...because I thought I was helping. I hid you away from the pack so they wouldn't be enraged but I've realized that the only person the pack has the right to be mad at is Selene, you didn't do this to yourself. I'm sorry my child". Ophelia explained.
Alessia couldn't believe it 'so all along she was helping me, she was protecting me'. She continued crying her eyes out. Meanwhile Ophelia thought that Alessia was unwilling to forgive her so she said "it's fine if you won't forgive me, I totally understand. I hurt you badly". "I'll leave" she stood and turned to leave. "Mom, wait" Alessia said before Ophelia could get to the door. Ophelia stopped in her tracks and turned slowly. She faced Alessia still scared that she might be imagining things she asked "what did you call me?" "Mom" Alessia replied. Ophelia enveloped her daughter in a tight embrace "I've waited for so long to hear you call me that". "Me too" Alessia replied. "Thank you" Ophelia said with tears of Joy streaming down her face.
They spoke about random things till it got late and Ophelia left. Alessia tried calling Odessa on her phone but she wasn't picking. "She should still be with Meher" she said aloud to herself. So she decided to leave her a text. 'I settled with my mom. I called her mom I know right. Don't be late tomorrow. Love you' and with that she went to bed.
