It's been 500 years since wolf shifters had forsaken their old ways.
500 years since they rose to reign upon every other supernatural species. Vampires, kelpies, witches and many others…
Gone are the days where entire clans trudged on the brink of annihilation. For everyone wanted to be the alpha, everyone wanted to rule. Family members tore each other apart until almost none remained. They saw no friend, only foe. They saw physical strength as their only language, victory as their only land and death as their only alternative.
That all came to an end about 500 years ago ….
Three, very noteworthy wolf shifters gathered under one roof, around one table to plot and to conspire: The oldest, the wisest and the wealthiest.
These three had defied and conquered their monstrous nature, and they lived to reap the fruits of their determination. These who'd lived long, prosperous and cushy lives delivered the vision that changed it all.
Blessed with longevity, they could afford to spend a few decades roaming earth to observe its dwellers.
Humans were by far the biggest anomaly they'd witnessed. They did not have the strength. They did not have the speed, nor did they have the claws and fangs of a wolf. And yet, they grew so bold, so confident they'd began hunting for supernatural creatures.
They'd burned witches. They'd impaled vampires and beheaded wolf shifters.
What was their secret?
After all, humans too warred amongst themselves, enslaved their own kind, oppressed and tortured their kin. They were every bit as heinous as wolf shifters. So, how come they kept on growing in numbers instead of going extinct? How come were they standing at the top of the food chain when they should have been nothing but prey?
The three wanderers, one day, understood that humans were making use of something wolf shifters too had but squandered.
Intelligence… Humans built families, built houses, built towns, and countries. They forged weapons, strategies and rules for their wars.
The smartest ones of the flock made entire systems and laws to keep the masses in line. Most importantly, they drew invisible lines they knew not to cross but also how to cross them if they were to, regardless of how angry or sad they were.
The less fortunate or the less influential of them who were caught breaking the laws in place, saw themselves severely punished.
They knew when to employ force and when to employ words… They knew when and how to be crooked. And they also knew their strength was in their numbers.
Thus, by taking a page out of the humans' book, the system that governs wolf shifters to this day was born.
The first six decrees of their hierarchy to ever see the light:
- Since the first born wolf shifters were immensely more powerful than the rest of their siblings, it was decreed that only first borns, in a certain age range, from every family would compete once to earn the title of alpha. This act would render their nuclear family; parents, siblings, as well as nephews and nieces, first class betas. Whereas their extended families; Aunts, uncles and cousins, second class betas.
It was decreed that a beta had a choice; to serve as a beta in their clan of birth or become a third class beta after swearing allegiance to an alpha they did not blood with.
- It was decreed that a beta can choose to leave their clan and live on their own, earning them the rank of omega.
- It was decreed that the alpha that will lead his clan to thrivingness, and blend into the human society, will earn the rank of high society alpha.
- It was decreed that every 50 years, all high society alphas in a specific age range were to compete for the title of the perfect alpha. The one to lead all.
- Finally, it was decreed that the seven oldest wolf shifters alive, will earn a chair in the council of the elders, second in command after the perfect alpha.
And it worked. The bloodshed ceased almost altogether. More and more wolves tamed their raging emotions.
More and more wolves fooled the humans about their nature, becoming their neighbors, and more of them rose to wealth.
When all was said and done, wolf shifters sat at the top of the food chain…
The records of that era were lost. History was erased, and supernatural creatures have lived under the reign of the wolf shifter for 500 years.
Now, let me welcome you to Grimesbrook again… The town where a new age for supernatural creatures is about to begin… Once more.
It all starts with the, seemingly coincidental, meeting between one human woman and one, not so human man.

Hello! Hello, dear readers;
This is my very first original and contracted work on webnovel. So, I'd like to start by thanking you for picking my story up. I truly appreciate it. It encourages me to go forward and improve my writing skills.
I reckon the system I've made for the supernatural creatures in this book may be a little more complex than I originally imagined it, and I'd like to offer this chapter as an origin to the hierarchy.
The story does include a lot of violence and triggering subjects, as well as sexual content. Of course, there will be warnings at the beginning of every chapter that includes such things. My goal is to entertain, not cause distress.
It is worthy to note that the story is a slow burn romance that is broken down into small arks. It will be told exclusively in 1 POV. Firstly, through the eyes of the FL, in order to ease into the supernatural universe. But then, the chapters will start alternating between the FL and the ML POVs.
There's a lot of inner monologue and reflection and I fully understand if that is not everyone's cup of tea. I'd rather not waste anybody's time.
