Chapter 155: Chapter 155 – Fun Competition

Extra chapter

***

The sports festival entered its second half, and Yukio's class still held a strong lead. After the three-legged race, the next event was the team cavalry battle.

Thanks to the detailed D-Class competition chart, Yukio's class could easily identify D-Class's weak points.

Without Sudo, a key player, D-Class was no match for Yukio's class in team competitions, and the outcome was quickly decided.

Then came the segment everyone looked forward to—the fun competition of the bread-grabbing race.

Since it was a student council-organized fun event and not an official school event, it wasn't divided into multiple sessions; there was just one race for everyone, with the same rewards and penalties as the individual competitions.

When Yukio heard the announcement, he was ready to head to the starting line—he had a gainful bet with Nagumo.

Ishizaki was a bit puzzled: "I thought Yukio-san wasn't that interested in the sports festival, but I didn't expect you'd enjoy these fun events so much."

"It's not that I like fun competitions," Yukio had a sly smile that could scare people, "I just want to mess with that idiot Nagumo."

"Hmm?" Ryuen, standing nearby, sensed something. He glanced at Yukio, who had that eerie smile, and couldn't help but sigh: "Sigh, looks like Nagumo is in big trouble."

Yukio didn't comment on Ryuen's words, heading to the starting line. The competitors were warming up, waiting for the staff to push the bread-hanging rack into place on the track to start.

Among the twelve competitors, Yukio and Nagumo stood out. Nagumo was already warming up under everyone's watchful eyes, looking calm as if the sports festival setback caused by Yukio hadn't affected him at all.

However, when he saw Yukio approaching, a deep sense of menace flashed in Nagumo's eyes! Clearly, his composure wasn't as calm as it seemed.

How could he remain calm? He had always been confident in front of the whole school, but now, Yukio knocked him off his perch, leaving him little room to maneuver during the entire sports festival.

If the incident at the pool, where Yukio stepped on Nagumo's head, was like a harsh slap to the face, it would be like that again.

The sports festival defeat was like Yukio ripping Nagumo's entire face off and throwing it on the ground, stomping on it twice. His reputation was completely ruined.

So Nagumo could only act as if it was "no big deal" to cope, to reassure his own class, and to keep the other three second-year classes from challenging him, avoiding further disruptions.

Moreover, Nagumo knew he still had one last chance—the bet he'd made with Yukio at the student council meeting.

If he could beat Yukio in this fun competition, not only would he win 10 million private points, but he'd also completely restore his lost dignity.

If he won, people wouldn't talk about how badly his class did in the sports festival or how they ended up with zero points. They'd say Nagumo made a comeback and beat Yukio.

So he couldn't afford to lose this fun competition. Thinking about this, Nagumo focused more on his warm-up, trying to get his body into peak condition to turn the tide with one win.

Yukio had a bright look and, pretending to be familiar, went up to greet him: "Nagumo, how's your class doing in the sports festival? Still at the bottom with zero points?"

Hearing this annoying question, Nagumo nearly broke his teeth from grinding them. Who asks a question like that? If you don't know how to talk, then just shut up!

Being reminded of the sports festival disaster felt like a slap to the face for Nagumo, especially coming from Yukio, the main culprit.

Nagumo was so angry that his veins almost popped from his temples, showing his intense rage.

"Oh, sorry, sorry," Yukio laughed and shook his head, then gazed at the large screen across the sports field: "I almost forgot, the large screen shows the class sports festival scores."

As he looked, he saw that Yukio's class was competing with Horikita Manabu's class for the top spot, with only a ten-point difference between them.

It could be said that Yukio's class had plenty of athletic students. Even with their limited physical development due to age, they could hold their ground against the third-year classes without falling behind.

And Nagumo's class? They were in bad shape, still sitting at a big fat zero by the afternoon.

In fact, Yukio didn't knock out all of Nagumo's class competitors with a stick; some slipped through.

But Nagumo, perhaps out of egotism, had once suggested at a student council meeting that absences should be heavily penalized.

In the end, it backfired on him. With each sports festival event, even if some students from Nagumo's class gave their all to score a few points, the absentees would cost them so much that they'd end up with nothing.

This left Nagumo's class disheartened and without any motivation to continue participating in the sports festival. Their position at the bottom was inevitable, and no matter what they did, it was futile.

Nagumo forcefully suppressed his anger, reminding himself not to rush, not to get anxious. This was Yukio's pre-race taunt, meant to break his composure and cause him to underperform. He couldn't fall for such a crude trick.

"Hah." Thinking he had seen through Yukio's "lowly scheme," Nagumo's confidence surged: "Yukio, don't think you've won yet."

"Don't forget, we bet 10 million private points on this competition, and the entire student council is our witness. If you lose, you can't back out."

The other competitors from the ten classes were enjoying the show—it was quite entertaining! A showdown between a first-year and a second-year.

On the class level, Yukio's first-year class had already crushed the second-year Class A. Now the leaders from both classes were about to compete, how could they not watch?

Yukio didn't seem to care, acting like Nagumo's confidence was nothing. Even after stepping up, he didn't bother to warm up: "Then let's see what happens."

With the referee's prompting, everyone stood properly at the starting line, staring at the tall poles 200 meters ahead.

It was just two long poles with a rope connecting them. Twelve pieces of bread, individually wrapped, were tied to the top rope in a straight line. The competitors just had to jump up, bite a piece off, and then run to the finish.

"Ready, set!" The referee waited two seconds after this call, then pulled the trigger, and the starter pistol went off.

Nagumo shot ahead! He leaped with a low posture, moving very quickly.

Yukio, however, had a mischievous grin, walking slowly and leisurely behind the rest.

While the other eleven contestants sprinted, Yukio's casual stroll drew the attention of the entire field.
