Chapter 2: Regression
In the middle of a grand hall, which seems to have men and women of various ages who are wearing luxurious clothing talking enthusiastically with each other. At a glance you can guess, it is some sort of nobles party or banquet. Among all the people present a particular young lady attracted lot of attention. She is very beautiful with glossy black hair and emarald pupils and exquisite round face. She seems to be around the age of 12 or 13 years old. But her face was cold as if she doesn't like anyone approaching her.
Her name is Selena Radias, a genius magic swordsman who is the daughter of Viscount Radias. She showed her talent for magic swordsmanship as early as 5 years old. She is expected to inherit the viscount family and also, many have lot of expectations from her as a magic swordsman who will lead the army in the future to fight against the evil demons as a next virtuous hero. Because of that, despite her young age, she has a lot of suitors.
In this world if you are talented and virtuous enough, you will have a chance of being chosen by the Gods and will be bestowed with hero crest which will give you special power, apart from your own talent and techniques. This special power will give you the ability of acquiring various unique skills and on top of that you can gain strength from killing demons and monsters. It will not only increase you cultivation and power, it will also help you increase the mastery over your skills at a rapid phase the more you use and fight. But not everyone can acquire the hero crest and become hero. Only selected individuals will be chosen by the Gods and that too only when it is necessary to replace the older generation of heroes to fight against the evil demon race who are under the control of otherworldly devils.
Now, beside the young girl was a timid small boy. If you didn't notice carefully you would've almost overlook his existence whose presence seems to be overshadowed by the young girl. His charactereatics also similar to the young girl with black hair, emarald eyes and round face, albeit a bit pale. His age seems to around 7-8 years old. He also seems to be a bit too shy. One carefull look you can already guess the young girl and the young boy seems to be siblings despite having completely different demeanour. That's right, the young boy is Karthic Radias, the younger brother of Selena Radias and the second son of Viscount Radias.
He is not as talented as his sister and has only slight talent towards magic. Unlike his sister who developed the talent for magic swordsman at the age of 5 years, his talent for magic only showed pretty recently at the age 7 years. Although, considering his age, his talent for magic is above average overall, he is no where near compared to his overly talented sister. As it is pretty common in noble circle where people would compare siblings regarding talent and future growth due to succession rights, he was always compared to his overly talented sister and even discriminated in few occasions because of his compartively less talent. Because of that he grew up a bit timid, cowardly, and with little to no friends. His father is stren and strict, his sister is cold and uncaring, his only support is his mother who always doted on him. And of course he loves to read a lot of books, especially one which describes either about mage or hero who fights against demons to save the humanity. He always reads them and fantasize about them by imaging him in their place. That's how his life was usually goes untill today.
Today is the day Selena Radias made an official debut in the noble banquet held by Count Strandhill. She will have the chance to engage in conversation with other nobles and improve her connections, of course that is not seems to be happening because of her cold demeanour. So you ask why his younger brother also here, well he was dragged into this banquet as his entire family came here. His existence itself is special in the banquet as he is not qualified to have conversation with other dignitaries, so he just shrank his head, trying to make his presence as less as possible. His parents already went ahead to participate in exchange of pleasantaries with other nobles, leaving him alone with his cold and uncaring sister.
While sitting around fidgeting by looking here and there, not knowing what to do, three young boys who seems to be around the age of his sister coming towards the sibling pair. The boy in the middle was very handsome with neatly combed brown hair and dark green eyes, and the boys following him, looks pretty average, most probably the underlings of the handsome boy in the middle. The boy in the middle started the conversation with his sister as he asked, "Greetings, esteemed Selena Radias. I am Alfred Roscommon, first son of Viscount Roscommon family. If you distinguished self don't mind, would you like to have my company?". Selena immediately replied without any second thoughts and without any ounce of politeness in a cold manner, "Not interested". Having gotten this type of reply, Alfred didn't get angry at all, but slightly looked at Karthic with the corner of his eyes. His gaze seems to look at an unwanted pest standing in his way. Despite his sister noticed this detail, she didn't say anything, she simply ignored it, and Alfred is also not afraid of expressing his disgust openly towards Kartic infront of his sister, as in most of the noble families there is no harmonious relationship between siblings due to succession rights. So there are rarely where a sibling stands up for another sibling. On top of that, knowing that Karthic is less talented and only slightly above average, nobody really cares about him, so he only invites discrimination and bullying where ever he goes.
Alfred, turning his gaze back to Selena, was going to persuade her to accompany him in the banquet for a conversation, but Karthic who was sweating and, acting timid and, embarrassed by the look he was given, suddenly clutched his head and dropped to the ground, started panting heavily. Alfred, his underlings and Salena were taken aback. Salena crouched down beside Karthic and asked, "Hey, are you alright, what's happening?". Despite not caring much about her younger brother, she could not simply ignore if something happens to him on her watch, otherwise she would not be able to answer her parents. She started calling him repeatedly to know what's happening to him, "Hey Karthic, can you hear me, tell me what's going on, KARTHIC?".
Despite her call, Karthic was not able to reply to her as he was experiencing head splitting headache and indescribable suffocation, he couldn't hear or see anything in the surroundings, he just clutched his head and started crouched down. After who knows how long, he stopped writhing in pain and abruptly opened his eyes and started looking around his surroundings, his sister shook him and asked, "Hey, are you ok, answer me idiot?". He slightly raising his head, looked at his sister. His gaze seemed to be looking at someone who he already know, but meeting after a long time, hence facing difficulty immediately recognising them. But soon his eyes suddenly glinted with clarity, looking at his sister, flashed a beautiful smile which displayed a serenity in his handsome face and replied, "Yes sister, I'm perfectly fine, just started feeling a sudden headache for some reason, that's all, but now I'm feeling fine." Looking at her brother smiling like that, Selena was stunned for a moment not even registering his reply, as it was her first time seeing her brother flash such a confident and seren smile, which seems to have distracted her, but she soon regained her thoughts and adviced her brother coldly in her usual manner, "If you are not feeling well, ask permission to father to go and rest in the guest room assigned to us, so that you won't ruin the banquet." Alfred and underlings also looked at him with disdain and Alfred mumbled to himself, "How can he be this weak? He is nothing but a burden.". Despite mumbling to himself, it was still clear for others nearby to hear what he was saying. Salena also heard his words, but she didn't saying anything and ignored it.
Hearing those words, Karthic just glanced at Alfred. Knowing he was glanced at, Alfred looked directly at Karthic as if telling him, he was welcome to the challenge him, but for unknown reason Alfred felt slightly uncomfortable from Karthic's glance, but he brushed it off as his imagination.
After a short glance and ignoring his sister's cold advice, Karthic started thinking to himself carefully, "It seems the regression spell was a success, and regressed back to when I was still in my home world and just about to leave it, so the first hard part is over. Now, here comes the second hard part." Thinking upto here, he slowly turned his head towards the massive window in the banquet hall and looking through it, as if he was expecting something from the outside.
