Chapter 57: Abandoned settlement.

Giulia perched on her bed, memories trickling back - yet another raid, more men reveling in the humiliation of defenseless villagers. The frequency of her death over the past few years had left her numb to the pain and shame, but this time, her death was different.

It did not come from the hands of any human, but from a monster who raided her modest house right after the adventurers. Her brother was killed earlier today before the small group of heroes with shining armor and heavy swords beat her up and decided to use her body for their entertainment.

But they got disturbed by that violent beast. That Orc butchered them and sent her into the void right after, all that while carefully holding some poor woman cradled unconscious in his left arm.

"He must be long gone anyway," Giulia sighed quietly and stood up, ready to find out whether it was safe to look for Reihmund. He died sooner, he should be somewhere outside already.

But then she heard it. Muffled man's groans and creaking of the wood from their spare bedroom.

She froze and then the anger awakened in her core. The countless assaults flashed in front of her eyes and she felt a sudden surge of heroism rising in her heart. How could he dare to take advantage of that young lady?! There must be a way to help her!

With a kitchen knife in hand, she approached the door swiftly. As she gripped the handle, hesitating for a second, she could hear words and moans of pleasure coming from the room.

"Yes... ah-hah... yes!"

Her hands flew to her mouth to cover her lips. How? That can't be true!

Giulia leaned in to hear better, brushing her blonde locks away from her face, with eyes widened in shock. The heavy breathing of two lovers, coated in lust as they shared this pleasure was unlike anything she ever heard.

The loud noise of the bed squealing under their bodies slowed down until it stopped completely.

"Are you alright?" A quiet man's voice was heard from the room, followed by a woman's moan and a few sweet words, too quiet to tell apart. This concern for the well-being of his captive left Giulia in awe.

She expected to hear her cry. Screaming in pain, begging for it to stop. But quiet comforting voices and mellow laughs were not even close to that.

"Giulia!" A barely noticeable whisper resounded from the stairs. Reihmund desperately tried to grasp the attention of his younger sister, strangely stiff in front of that room.

The one where that butcher hid his prey.

But she didn't seem to hear him, rooted to the spot, with a confused heart beating loudly in her chest. The silence hung heavy as she realized that every step would be heard on their old floor and overwhelming panic filled her mind. She missed her chance to escape unnoticed and now, when he is no longer occupied with his mistress, nothing could save her. Nothing.

Giulia gingerly shifted her foot back, tiptoeing along the edges of the planks to avoid any creaks beneath her weight, when the door burst open.
