Chapter 2: First Batch

The same flash of white light engulfed me and instantly I teleported away from the filthy apartment and appeared in a much cleaner laboratory. Honestly, it impressed me, all the equipment was top-grade, way better than the equipment I was used to. Then I saw it, a storage room, not the one the system talked about, no I think this one was probably just to store the materials the system mentioned.

It looked more like a freezer than anything else with some locked glass shelves on the side storing the liquid chemicals, which probably needed to be kept at room temp. Exploring the facility a bit, I was amazed at how advanced everything was for the year I was in. Some of it I didn't recognize, of course, that was probably due to the fact I studied the insects affected by the company's pesticides. I could however guess that they perhaps helped finalize the Jungle Juice product.

In the webcomic itself, Jungle Juice was used to kill insects and was a pesticide, how it was created however is unique due to one key process. The ability to combine the killed insects or arthropods of all kinds. It's astonishing, to say the least, I knew that while it was fiction the insects they were based on were very real and I knew how deadly this substance could be in the wrong hands or if something like predators started popping up or the insect hybrids who ate others like them.

"System, how would Jungle Juice be distributed?"

[Host will be provided basic automatons to help in the creation of Jungle Juice but Host will need to properly distribute the product

The Host is also allowed to create a cure for it and distribute it as seen fit

The recipe will be revealed when the host asks for it]

Finding a place to sit down, I began to process what I was probably about to do and if I was ready to accept any consequences. I am greedy, like most other humans are, and this system if it isn't some hallucination of my possibly insane mind but other humans would probably suffer as well.

"System how would I become a multiversal arthropod god or whatever it is you trying to make me?"

[Host would create the Jungle Juice formula and spread it around, much like a plague]

Well, at least I could give people a possible cure, although it would be probably easier to create Jungle Juice than cure it.

[Then the more insect hybrids or how well-known the product is, the more experience points the host will gain until certain functions are unlocked]

"Meaning it's going to take a while before I could gain any form of divinity."

Honestly, I was still overwhelmed by this whole thing, and even now I just wanted to curl up into a ball and pretend this was all a dream. I laughed a little once the thought passed and knew that the best way I dealt with stress was by diving into whatever new project came up, which isn't the healthiest solution but for right now it was probably better than the alternative.

"System, can you please show me the Jungle Juice recipe."

[Of course Host, the recipe should be available shortly]

(authors note: gonna edit this chapter once the actual Jungle Juice recipe is revealed but for right now, it's vague except for one thing)

While I was astonished at how similar it was to other pesticides, I was even more amazed at the fact it somehow incorporates primordial insect DNA into it. So seeing it all, alongside an extremely painful headache I could probably guess what the cause for it was. Then multiple flashes of light appeared around me, and multiple humanoid machines appeared each one uniquely suited to whatever task, honestly it reminded me a lot of my now old research department, albeit with more talking and open communication, but if this was all real I no longer had a team working underneath me.

So looking over the place, I saw where I needed to go, an area with no machine nearby with what could be the key to finalizing the Jungle Juice product. So I began helping out and watching over everything happy at how efficient the whole process was, and it took quite a long time with me mostly standing out and watching waiting until my part came into play.

Then as a small canister, filled with what would be a normal pesticide, I made sure I had all the proper equipment on gloves and mask. Double checking to make sure everything was safe, for me at least because while pesticides took care of insects easily they could still be harmful to humans. What the final ingredient was, was some of the primordial insect parts the system had provided, smashed into a fine powder probably to better fuse with the pesticide.

Trying my best to follow the system's instructions I used a measuring spoon to grab what I assumed was a pinch full and dropped it in stepping back allowing one of the automatons to take it over to another machine for further processing. It was massive, constructed in both a simple and complex way, and was probably meant to stabilize the formula. The automaton placed it inside locked it up and slid down a white panel I hadn't seen before.

Then it stepped to the side and I saw why, there was a control panel probably to help regulate the control process and allow me to make possible modifications if I wanted to try and improve the formula. Approaching, I saw a timer that needed to be set up, and looking back at the formula it called for up to an hour at least to help finalize alongside a few other key steps on the control panel. So I followed suit, making sure everything was just right at least for this first batch.

I could try and improve the Jungle Juice Formula later because for right now I didn't know if this first batch was going to be right. So I went ahead and entered the necessary commands and times, which called for an hour to finalize.

"System, do we have any paper and pens or something like that?"

[Yes Host, there should be some on the desk to your right]

Nodding and saying thanks to it, I rushed over to it and grabbed a piece of paper out writing down the various ingredients alongside the commands it told me to put in, and wrote "Basic Jungle Juice" at the top. Normally that would've been the first thing I did when working with new substances or even new species, after all, detailed notes on whatever experiment we were working on were vital as it allowed us to see what might have worked and what didn't. Then finishing it all off, I put results after I wrote everything else down, after all, either I might've messed up during the process or maybe the automatons themselves.

For right now though I had to wait and see, so I brought out free pieces of paper and started writing out various ways I could change the formula, small things for right if the original process was a success. So for right now, these were more possible future experiments to try and see if I could further improve the original formula.

So I waited, for an hour still extremely stressed out at my current situation but I was calming down and starting to accept what was happening to me. Although in some parts of my brain or subconscious, I still couldn't accept the current situation, which I would deal with later once I was calmer, even now I regret coming here in such a state, so many possible mistakes could've been made due to my emotional state, I could've harmed myself or even get myself killed when I was working with the pesticide.

To preoccupy my time, I twiddled with my pens and drew a couple of small sketches on the top of my paper, the parts no one uses when they're writing things down to make them look nice and neat. The other reason is that other fellow researchers would look over the notes to see the formula as well in case they needed to help make it or repeat the experiment.

Once the hour mark passed or at least I believe so the machine stopped making any form of noise and opened up revealing a green liquid, hopefully, the finalized product. Then the system window popped up again which put me in a sour mood.

[Failure]
