Chapter 25: Picking Status Effect.

[15:45, Spell Contamination.]

Walking in the corridor of the hall after saying goodbye to Vivienne because this is the last class they are attending, William couldn't help whistling in a good mood. Because for him, knowing the resemblance of the structure of science, like in his first life, for calculating the spell is already enough for him that is so out of touch with the thinking of the people of this world.

Thinking that always gives him a headache because he must wrap his mind around the concept that every part of it is imaginative reasoning without concrete evidence. Fortunately, with this runic non-rational mathematical diagram, he can simulate this imaginary thinking into something resembling proof or a method to make his mind at ease with what he can research and what he cannot research on.

And the fact that the basic formula for simulating the hypothesis of the spell is part of the most fundamental elementary education, which every arcane practitioner should have known, is truly really a blessing for him, who just attended the class without prior knowledge on the topic whatsoever. Which is also why he and Vivienne are able to calculate if their own created spell is possible, when they just entered the class that is already delving deep into the integrity of the spell.

Arriving at the room of the class, William began to listen to the lecture as always, while also revising his future main fighting style, which consists of attacking with his Mystic Bullet. And, if by any chance, the target is out of reach or needs firepower beyond that of his basic spell, he will advance the velocity of that bullet by using Infinite Extension to tear through the opponent.

That's it; there's nothing more to the plan beyond this initial strategy because he knows that he is far from creating a Transcendence state. Unlike Vivienne, who already has an inkling theory and necessary knowledge on how to perform her Super Magic, which they learned about in the Restoration class, William does not have a concrete theory on how to proceed further, as it directly touches on the topic of existence or the philosophy behind delving into the arcane.

And the runic non-rational mathematical diagram cannot help him in this endeavor since the basic aspect for the formula to calculate further is not there. Unlike Infinite Extension, which uses a binding agent he learned from the Conjuration school of Magic, or Mystic Bullet, which uses the pure form of Magicka and integrity diagram that he learned in the Restoration and Alteration school of magic, respectively.

He doesn't have the necessary knowledge to advance his State of Resonance any further. However, recalling the mentoring session with Margarita when he just arrived at the College, especially the many stacks of books that she suggested, William is sure some of them will hold the answer to his question.

Focusing his attention back to the class, he then starts noting the important parts and just leaves keywords for the sections that are not related to his research right now. The content itself gives him ideas on how to add contamination properties to the bullet, and it's a bit similar to the Weakness of Titanic Beast lecture content concerning interference with the Magicka of entities that have high magic resistance.

However, he thinks it's still too early for him to apply this method, since the basic spell itself is not ready or even in the phase of being created. So, passing the time where he might be wrong in the choice of his class, William just tries to improve his diagram of his Mystic Bullet and only writes a reference on how he can add contamination properties as a side note.

"Burned, frozen, paralyzed, charmed, frightened, frenzied, sluggish, weakened, silenced, deafened… Hmm, which one should I choose?"

Tapping his quill at the side of the table and thinking for a bit, his line of thinking is drawn into the fact that he still doesn't know how to increase the barrel of Infinite Extension. So, looking through various status effects that most likely will help his aim even when that barrel is not touching the target, William chooses the most likely effect that can be cast on all kinds of opponents.

"Sluggish and weakened it is."

Finishing the class for today, which ended at 17:30, marking a very study-intensive second day since he arrived at the College, William goes to the library, or more specifically to the lower level Arcanaeum, with the intention of renting a book that Margarita suggested, without considering the Septim coins that he must pay.

The reason for this is that, in his calculations, by the time the third year of his study arrives, his handgun and sniper rifle spells will be ready, allowing him to take on all kinds of mercenary work outside the town without fearing that he can't defend himself. Which is one year earlier than the above-average graduates of the College, such as Za'bil, J'zargo, and all the members of their study group.

Yes, that's right. According to his calculations using the runic non-rational formula, William will have enough firepower similar to that of a Journeyman by the third year of his study. Meaning, he doesn't need to be afraid that his opponents will counter his spell because the lethality nature of his spell is enough to kill most of the opponents, without having to expend the cost of Magicka very much.

Even though the pool amount of Magicka he will have is most likely very little compared to a normal Journeyman, when all the costs of the spells at his disposal are basically insignificant to the point that he can spam them without being afraid of running out of juice, then basically there is no difference between him and that normal level Journeyman.

Added to that, the hypothesis that has already become a reality is essentially to increase the regeneration pool of Magicka, as his seniors demonstrated that it can be created in the form of a spell, not just an enchantment that would be a separate school of study, with him aiming for the Transcendence state later that he wants to develop, then yes, basically there is no significant difference whatsoever between him and that Journeyman.

Because magic in this world is not a form of power level like that of cultivation, where they can only harm individuals if they have the same level as them. Which essentially allows even a normal "mortal" servant to kill an Arch-Mage if they have the right setup and tools to do it. That is also why the Dark Brotherhood can kill Titus Mede II even though he is surrounded by battlemages, some of whom are likely stronger than Arch-Mage Savos Aren.

So, walking around the library Arcanaeum, and taking not only the necessary book suggested by Margarita but also subsequent books recommended by the professor in today's class, William rented all of these books so that he could study in his quarters. And didn't care much about the money that would be spent, even to the point that he needed to buy a new big satchel to bring these books with him.
