Chapter 4: World Of Orion

David had never actually met with Tom's dad. Tom said his dad was busy meeting with clients and overseas business and rarely came home.

He remembered that he tried finding information about him online but couldn't find anything.

"That's cool", he said as he rushed towards the VR headset machine, closely analysing it. "This one even has food and fluid functionalities!" David was used to utilising the most basic VR machine before the 'merging', and it was the first time he had seen such an advanced VR tech.

"That's my nerd best friend, alright?" Tom giggled as he jumped into the machine. "It already has Orion installed; let's get into it", he said.

"Sure!" David was also excited to get into the game again; he jumped into the machine and put the VR Headset on his head.

They started the game, excited to know what lies ahead.

David's vision went dark before passing through a white tunnel and approaching a pedestal. A female angel with a pair of wings appeared in front of him. "I am Maria, servant of Almighty Seraphiel. I have been assigned to introduce you to the main classes and give you a general game overview."

David lowkey wanted to see the angel's reaction if he mentioned the 'merging' event. Still, he knew that the angel before him could erase his existence in a second and decided to not take any chances.

"Go on", he said.

"The world of Orion has a wide variety of classes and professions, but they all boil down to four basic Jobs. That is Mage, Melee, Rogue, and Healer."

"When you choose one job, you get access to all the classes and professions available to that particular class. For example, a Mage job can get you classes like Wizard or Summoner, Melee can get you Swordsman or Tank, and a Rogue can access classes like Berserker , chef or even a bard. Finally, the Healer can give you access to classes such as Cleric or Druid. "

"More classes exist, as well as a few hidden classes that can be unlocked only if special conditions are fulfilled."

"So which class will you choose?" the angel finally finished, as the words on the pedestal before David changed, taking the form of the names of four classes.

"Last time I took Melee, mostly because Alice liked those... but it was a terrible decision. I was never the athletic type, and I know the profession that will suit me more", David thought as he clicked one of the options on the pedestal.

[ You have been assigned the Mage job ]

"Please Select a name for your Character", the angel said.

"David", he replied. He wasn't the type to create fancy names and liked to keep things simple.

"Good luck on your journey, adventurer. Hope you reach the pinnacle of your class." the angel finally said before disappearing into a mist.

David's vision blurred before he travelled through another tunnel and found himself at the Church in the "Beginner's Town".

David looked around, realising that there were already a large number of players playing the game.

David knew that quite a few different Beginner towns existed to accommodate all the new players, and the actual game would begin once they entered the different kingdoms.

"System", David muttered as an interface appeared in front of him inside the game.

==================

Name: David

Level: 0 (0/100 exp )

Stage: Mortal

Class: None

Stats:

 HP: 100/100

 Vitality:10

 Strength:10

 Agility:10

 Mana:10

Stat Points: 0

Skill Points: 0

Skills: Lesser Fire Spell

Weapons: Beginner's Staff

Items: None

Inventory: Bread, Lesser Healing Potion

Quests: None

==================

"Everything is 10 as expected. Humans had the most average stats, as they didn't excel in anything compared to other races.", David thought.

He knew that every level up would give him two stat points and one skill point, whereas other races received different points for stats and skills.

"Humans were the most disadvantaged in this category, but we had one special ability, which separated us from other races", he thought as he walked out of the Church.

Humans could change into other races. It was considered by some cultists that it was god's way of telling that all other races had been derived from the human race. However, it allowed humans to improve their abilities quickly.

"A lot of players changed to powerful races like Dragons or Elves, but it created issues when they started transferring to those races, essentially giving the territory to enemies."

Anyway, David decided to try to have fun for some time instead of thinking about what went wrong.

He looked around, noticing that people wore all types of armour and carried different weapons.

"It has been just six hours since the release! No wonder new players found it impossible to catch up to the old ones", David muttered.

He quickly opened the system and clicked on the 'Quest' tab, which opened a different interface.

==========

Quests:

Class Quests: None

World Quests: None

Basic Quests: Interact with residents of Beginner's Town (Chained Quest)

==========

He clicked on the only quest available to him and read its details.

==========

Name: New Beginnings

Objective: Interact with residents of Beginner's Town (Chained Quest)

Reward: 1000 exp, +10% favourability with NPC of Beginner Town

==========

"Hmm, I remember that this quest was very useless compared to later quests in the game.", he thought as he looked at the long queue in front of the houses of these NPCs.

People hogged up to these NPCs, hoping to get a hidden quest if they significantly improved their favourability with NPCs, and they were not wrong.

"But these NPC can only give unnecessary hidden classes, like the golden butcher", David giggled. He walked past the town gates, entering the forest where low-level monsters existed.

He took out his only weapon, 'The Beginner's Staff', and read its description.

=========

Name: The Beginner's Staff

Rank: Common

Durability: 10/10

Strength + 1, Mana + 1

Description: The most basic staff. might as well use your fists

Effects: None

=========

"Might deal more damage by hitting the staff on the enemies." David knew he had a Lesser Fire Spell, but he would need stronger spells quickly to execute his plans.

At that moment, a couple of slimes came his way as he grinned, looking at them like prey had entered the Lion's den.

"Time to feast on the exp."
