Chapter 39: The Cold Inside

Mad River. A historic town with a haunting past. And that past is still there, living and breathing. 

I've never met someone who knew my ability just by looking at me—at least, not that I'm aware of. But unless they say something and send horrifying images into my mind like Susan did, how would I know? I guess I wouldn't. And maybe that means the way Ivan found out about my shadow vision wasn't the result of someone in my family talking. 

I've also never met someone with a shadow like Susan's. It was thick and black, like there was tar coating her aura. When she came closer, it started to take the shape of arms and heads pressing outward, trying to free themselves—or trying to get to me to pull me in. I'm not sure which.
