Chapter 3: Meeting Lily(2)
As he witnessed these extraordinary events unfold, Shane's desire to assist and provide for this girl grew even stronger.
As he brainstormed ways to test his theory, a sudden realization struck him.
"Didn't this app offer some sort of reward called the opportunity card?"
With this thought in mind, Shane reopened the app and navigated to the inventory section.
Within the inventory section, a photograph of a card caught his attention.
Curiosity piqued, he clicked on it, revealing the message, "Would you like to claim your reward?"
Without hesitation, he clicked on "yes."
Shane was taken aback by the prompt on the app. It informed him that his reward, an "opportunity card," had magically appeared in his jeans pocket.
Astonished, he couldn't believe that the app had the power to materialize objects out of thin air.
Curiosity piqued, he reached into his pocket and discovered the card.
It was undeniable—the app had indeed materialized the card.
Holding it in his hand, he suddenly felt a surge of information flooding his mind.
The card was a one-time-use item designed to create opportunities for the user.
All he had to do was hold the card and concentrate on his desired achievement for five seconds.
Once that was done, the card would generate an opportunity for him to reach his goal.
It was important to note, however, that the card's sole purpose was to create opportunities; whether or not Shane acted upon them was entirely up to him.
The existence of such a magical item left Shane convinced that the app was genuine.
He couldn't fathom any scammer possessing such extraordinary abilities. Nevertheless, he was eager to test the effectiveness of the opportunity card.
Contemplating how to spoil Lily, Shane watched as the card mysteriously vanished into thin air.
In his mind, a notification chimed, alerting him that the opportunity card had been utilized.
In the midst of this, a voice called out to Shane, breaking his reverie.
"Shane, Shane, Shane!" Startled, he turned to face his Aunt Lin.
"Huh, oh Aunt Lin, what's the matter?"
"Hey Shane, why are you standing there lost in thoughts? Don't you want your ramen noodles?"
"Oh, sorry Aunt Lin. I was preoccupied with something and didn't hear you."
Apologizing, he made his way to the counter.
Approaching the counter, he noticed Lily standing there, paying for her snacks.
"Here you go, young man. Two bags of ramen noodles," Aunt Lin handed him the purchase.
"Thanks, Aunt Lin."
"So, Shane, have you found a new part-time job?"
"No, Aunt Lin. I'm currently taking a break. I'm focused on something important at the moment."
"Is it that game you've been working on for the past year?"
Aunt Lin inquired. "Why don't you listen to your dad and join him in managing the family restaurant?"
"Don't worry Aunt Lin I know what I am doing.
And my new game is already 50% completed"
"And I have already saved some money, and slowly but surely I will complete my game."
"Why bother with all this when you could just handle your family business?" Aunt Lin asked, perplexed.
"You should be focusing on finding a new girlfriend at your age," she added.
As Aunt Lin and Shane conversed, Lily's voice suddenly interjected from the side.
"What's going on? Why won't this payment app process my payment?"
"What should I do?" she wondered aloud.
Upon hearing Lily's words, a single thought crossed Shane's mind: opportunity.
