Chapter 15: Battle of the same specie.

After walking for an unknown amount of time, Luke finally heard some sounds a distance ahead. His eyes dilated with shock, and he quickly did well to control his emotions, knowing fully well that a mistake in the dangerous hell hole could cost him his life.

While Luke wanted to see what was happening, however, his view was instructed by trunks and bushes. Luckily he wasn't in a hurry to see what was going on so he chose to listen first.

He positioned himself behind a tree surrounded by bushes to hide his location before listening to the sounds coming from a distance.

It was a fight!

Luke frowned and cursed as soon as he realized the footsteps of the combatants were heavy, reminding him of the grizzly bear-type beast that was able to hurt him badly in their fight, even though it was wounded and exhausted before their battle.

While listening, Luke could hear the 'Clanking' sounds of hard objects colliding in battle. His eyes narrowed as he thought of the possibilities of things that could create such a sound in a battle between beasts, and this led him to a conclusion.

Bones!

"Beasts of the same species are fighting each other?" Luke asked with a look of confusion etched on his face.

Judging based on the sound, he was certain the beasts fighting had exterior bones as weapons. These beasts were clashing with their natural weapons, which explained the sound he had been hearing, while also making him believe they were of the same species.

It wasn't that the evolution of beasts made infighting impossible, it was just that Luke had lived a sheltered life in his little village and didn't know much of how the world really worked.

That was why he was shocked and confused upon learning that the two combatants may be beasts of similar species.

According to all the tales he had heard from his parents and elders during his days in the village, he was made to believe that beasts and demons were coordinated when they fought against the humans.

What he didn't know was that it was simply the presence of high-level demons and beasts that made them coordinated. As long as a powerful demon and beast of higher level were present, it was possible to coordinate the beasts and demons horde. However, during their absence, the demons and beasts are no different from wild animals which kill anything and everything for little or no reason.

Snapping out of the shock, Luke realized this was an opportunity to get both the weapon and food he had been desperately searching for.

'The heavens have finally decided to smile upon me!' He thought.

He dared not speak out, just to avoid alerting the beasts and potentially ruining everything. Without hesitation, Luke began searching for a good spot where he could get a better view of the battle. At first, he considered getting closer while concealing himself with the bushes, but he quickly decided against this plan.

After everything he has seen so far, even the rustling of the bushes when he attempted to go closer may be enough to alert these beasts. His only option now was to take advantage of the tall trees here and observe the fight from above.

Luke quickly turned his attention to the closest tree, and he began climbing up with his enhanced strength, it wasn't difficult for him to get a good grip, allowing him to climb these trees effortlessly.

Luke only stopped when he reached a branch high up, surrounded by a canopy of leaves. Only after securing a good position and taking a good look did Luke see the two Antlertaurs.

The Antlertaur was a formidable and ferocious beast, blending the qualities of an antelope with an air of primal aggression. Its sleek, muscular body stood at an impressive 7 feet tall. Luke noticed its multicoloured fur, ranging from deep, earthy browns to fiery reds.

He was quick to notice the defining feature of this beast, which were its colossal antlers, curving outward in a fearsome display of intricately jagged tines. Just the sight of these antlers was enough to make Luke shudder involuntarily, as he wondered the kind of pressure he would be under if he were to ever meet such a beast face to face.

The Antlertaur's eyes were a deep amber hue that seemed to glow with an inner fire. This gaze was both keen and intimidating, reflecting the beast's fierce nature and acute awareness of its surroundings even in battle. This made Luke wonder what would have happened if he attempted to get close to them on foot and ended up getting caught.

Pushing his intrusive thoughts aside, Luke focused on the powerful jaws of the Antlertaur that housed razor-sharp teeth, hinting at the Antlertaur's carnivorous tendencies. His gaze shifted to the imposing antlers, smaller, razor-edged horns adorning the sides of their heads, providing a secondary line of defence. These horns, though smaller than the grand antlers, were equally sharp and capable of delivering precise and lethal strikes.

Luke was soon captivated by the Antlertaur's muscular build hidden under the thick and coarse fur on its body, which offered protection against potential attacks. Its flowing mane of fur ran along its neck and back.

Luke noticed their sharp hooves, adapted for both speed and traction, but could also be used to deliver powerful kicks. These hooves are equipped with razor-like edges, providing additional weaponry in confrontations.

After observing the two beasts for a while in silence, Luke was able to notice a striking difference between the two combatants which may very well determine the outcome of the battle.

The Antlertaur on the left was heavier than the one on the right!

Back when Luke was still in the village, he had observed some wrestling matches between villagers. The heavier men always usually turned out to be the winners, and he strongly believed the same laws should apply to beasts as well.

In his mind, he had already concluded the Antlerlaur on the left would emerge victorious in this fight.
