Chapter 20: Dragonhold

——

He paused as he scrolled through the stats and skills of the bow.

This weapon was too good, what the heck. He held the weapon properly and felt around the bow without using magika, drawing the weapon here and there to feel its weight. It felt light in his hands, but held a devastating amount of power. He stored the bow and checked out the spell tome next.

"Chain Lightning.", he read the name of the spell tome aloud. It looked like a normal book, apart from the fact that it had a very large lightning symbol in front and small sparks jumped around the body of the book. Instinctively, he opened the book. Lightning moved from the book and enveloped him, disappearing as quick as it had appeared.

>Lightning learnt

>Lightning LV.1

>New Spell learnt; Chain Lightning

>CHAIN LIGHTNING

Desc: Unleashes a surge of crackling electricity towards a target. If the initial target is struck, the lightning chain jumps to nearby enemies within a short radius, dealing reduced damage and a brief stun. The chain can only jump thrice before dissipating. (Cost: 150 magika)

From his skills interface, he activated the spell, he didn't quite understand lightning magic enough to use it on a whim and without using the system.

Activating the spell, a blue hue enveloped his palm with sparks jumping about as they snapped and crackled around his hand. Releasing the spell, a bolt of lightning flew off from his hand at a very fast pace, hitting a tower and destroying a huge chunk of it.

"Damn. That's some power." He looked at his magika pool, "But my magika pool greatly limits its usability. I should focus on tweaking that later."

Satisfied with his drops, he collected himself and moved towards the throne area of the chamber where Ignis laid before he disturbed his rest. He hadn't made it halfway through when the entire chamber started crumbling, the wall was crumbling into itself as the pieces of the roof fell off.

A portal sequentially appeared in front of him and he ran into it as fast as he could.

——

He reappeared at an unfamiliar part of the forest. He looked around and heaved out a big sigh of relief when he realized he did not appear in the midst of the beasts the first portal took him out of.

He scaled a tree nearby to get a good vantage point. "It seems the portal dropped me closer to the end of the forest this time. Without the horse, I should be able to make it out in 3 hours tops."

He jumped down and took a look at the map one last time before he set off again. This time, the journey was quieter than it was when he entered the forest. Whatever was happening back there, he was far from it now.

In roughly about three hours, he made it out of the forest. The warmth of the sun against his face again made him feel like he'd been taken out of hell to be dipped in a warm spring.

But in front of him was the place called the 'Dead Zone' because very close to it lay the forbidden country of the dragons. It was ironical though, because unlike the name it has come to bear, the area was filled with lush greens, beautiful flowers, it was beautiful.

THE NEXT DAY

He stood in front of the entrance to a canyon. Its walls rose like cliffs of polished gold, their surfaces catching the afternoon sun. A single, meandering river snaked through the canyon floor; its color so intense it seemed almost unnatural.

Passing through the canyon, he eventually game across an emerald gate. The pathway was decorated with cobblestones leading inwards where some thick mist obscured the rest of the pathway. The gateway seemed otherworldly, like a barrier separating two realms.

"This is it, the gate way to land of dragons." He gathered his wits, "Let's hope I'm not served as dessert the moment I step foot into the place." He grabbed his backpack a little tighter and walked through the gate.

As he stepped into the other side, he blinked, momentarily disoriented. He was standing on what seemed like the edge of a cliff. The oppressive dimness of the canyon had been replaced by a strange, diffused twilight. The air, heavy and filled with an unfamiliar scent, carrying the faint rumble of distant thunder.

The sky above wasn't blue, but a swirling mix of deep violet and crimson, where strangely shaped birds with huge wingspans along with dragons flew around. The land below held rows of rolling hills carpeted with a mix of greens and other unknown vegetations. In the distance, jagged mountain peaks, sharp and black stood, piercing the clouds.

Apart from the otherworldly appearance, there was something peculiar about the air here. Maybe because he was a high elf attuned to magic, he could feel it, like the air itself held more magical energies than the entire area of Skyrim he had travelled through.

Before he could take in more of the breathtaking sight, he felt two strong gazes from above him. Moving his eyes slowly upwards, he locked eyes with a fire wyvern on his left and another on his right. He swallowed hard.
