Chapter 24: The Emergence

Raian blinked, his mind slowly emerging from the depths of a nightmarish dream, only to find himself ensnared in a web of contemplation. Minutes ticked by as he delved into the recesses of his memory, reliving the harrowing trials he had faced.

Analyzing it, reviewing it and just remembering what had exactly happened.

Scaling a treacherous mountain shrouded in a blinding snowstorm, fighting against multiple wolves of abnormal size and resilience, running on for hours in waist-deep snow, marching while gritting his teeth. Exploring an ancient monastery steeped in the scent of blood staunching his nose with its vile scent, watching in pure awe as the masters clash against a saint.

And finally, the moment of his betrayal killing Gemma and then carrying the little girl as Geralt chased after him. Using Geralt's madness against him He was able to kill Geralt at a heavy cost.

Sitting in front of the little girl, bleeding from his facial orifices, the one-armed man wished to the little girl much younger than himself.

Lastly, his acceptance of death at the last moment.

He had accepted death, but he did not die or rather he conquered his first nightmare thanks to dying.

Maybe it was a condition that needed to be met.

Maybe he got lucky.

Maybe he was able to convince the small girl to respect his last wish.

Opening his eyes Raian gazed at the smooth metallic ceiling of the police station along with its vault hanging above him, tracing the smooth metallic wall and finally towards the medical bed which he was on top of.

'Unacceptable.' clenching his fist in anger hatred and disgust.

The first nightmare was disappointing for Raian, 'The path I set forward to save the slums, the conditions and habits I created for survival, I ignored them all to what? How could I have accepted my death, what would have happened to the others after I fall.'

Raising his hands and clapping them at the front.

'Enough about that now'

"You done?"

Hearing a familiar voice, Raian turned his head towards its origin facing a woman in a dark blue government uniform.

With short raven hair and clear blue eyes, Raian already knew who it was, even if he didn't the epaulets with 3 stars screamed someone of high rank.

Exhaling a shallow sigh Raian raised his hand to wave towards her slowly. "Lord Soul Reaper, my pleasure to meet you."

Seeing him being all casual and nonchalant the raven-haired master let out a laugh.

J "I don't like your behavior."

R "Getting any attention from Miss Reaper is the highlight of my day." said with a shallow smile on his face." acting respectful.

The woman's eyes dropped into a squint upon hearing Raian's remarks, slight killing intent slowly released from the ascended woman, slowly choking Raian as he coughed.

Even after Raian had taken the first step into the realm beyond humanity, he still visibly flinched at the killing intent seeping out of the woman.

But no fear existed in his eyes as he coughed last to stabilize himself and lock eyes with her.

J "I understand if you wanted to meet me, but you pulled strings from the intelligence office to force me here, I was about to have dinner, Raian you should know some places only serve during their reservation time."

There was a smile on Soul Reaper's face, but it didn't spread towards the other parts of her face.

R "My apologies Soul Reaper, I just wanted to ask you again, now that I have become a sleeper will you support me?" straightening his back with a stoic face, Raian asked the same question he had asked a year ago when he met the woman for the first time.

J "Mm…. no." the woman replied almost instantly.

R" May I ask why?." he was still rejected, 'maybe if I had revealed my divine aspect or my true name she might have agreed but I don't wish to make them known though.'

Soul Reaper got up from the cheap plastic chair and stretched her right hand over her shoulder facing the door instead of Raian.

"Look Raian I understand the reason behind your question if I agree you could widen your territory in the slums many times but that won't solve the core problem, just like how you refuse to call me by my name I am an outsider and when outsiders interfere in an internal conflict sure it would work out well but in the long run it will affect you back."

Sighing a little she started walking towards the exit followed by Raian.

J "Fights in the slums. I still remember them being brutal or something like that, but they still have respect for each other."

Both of them walked out of the police station vault, whenever an officer was met Jett let them off with a small movement from her hand.

J "Fists would meet fists, weapons would clash against other weapons."

Some officers tried to push further but seeing her uniform and especially the three stars on her shoulders they had no further resistance.

J "Sometimes one would use a gun but after that person would be shunned, beaten or killed afterwards. "

Exiting the police station wholly they were met with the sun shining above them.

J "So Raian? What do you think would happen if I, a master, happened to aid your side."

R "They would also try to bring in an awakened or a master."

J "The number of master's is not high, they are all strong individuals doesn't mean they are all proper individuals, there are bound to be few with bad manners or something like that."

R "Your name will be enough, with your reputation even if an awakened person comes, I am sure we will be left alone."

J "Even more so, some adults value their reputation more than their lives, you know."

R "Are you that kind of an adult?"

Facing Raian Soul Reaper let out a genuine smile this time "Who knows."

Raian was not disappointed by Soul Reaper's choice, he asked her for help a while back when the group was struggling only to be rejected but he respected her decision.

No one is entitled to help you, they are they and you are you, there is no obligation stating people should help you.

Still, a mild dislike existed inside him. The Ascended Soul Reaper born in the same slums was someone who stood tall and walked forward, becoming an ascended.

She was someone who should be respected by everyone in the slums as a girl who defied her fate and rose into the sky.

But Raian couldn't respect her sincerely, she never looked back, leaving the darkness in the slums alongside her feelings she didn't look back.

Only in moments like this Raian would miss Ro so much.

Standing in front of the police station

Soul Reaper sharply turned around to look Raian in the eyes again.

Startled a little, Raian raised an eyebrow questioning her without speaking.

"I almost forgot, even becoming a Sleeper is an achievement to be celebrated" clapping her hands two times she continued.

" Welcome to the land of the living, congrats on conquering your first nightmare, Sleeper Raian."

Raian gave her a thorough look and nodded, waving goodbye to her to leave but the master stopped him.

J "Where do you think you're going?"

R "Home?"

J "I am obligated to transfer you to the academy, as a sleeper you do not possess a stable connection to the dream realm, if you sleep there is a high chance you get transferred to the dreamworld guaranteed to die."

R "I apologize but there are a few important matters in my territory I must handle, I will get there by myself tomorrow."

Raian tried to move but he wouldn't budge, the palm on his shoulder felt like a heavy boulder weighing him down.

Locking eyes with Soul Reaper in the process something ignited within him, shrouding Raian in a golden light and strengthening him.

Watching the golden light shroud envelop Raian, the resistance on her palm greatly increased.

J "Fine have it your way, if you can pull a string to pull me into the police station, I'm sure you can get to the academy yourself."

R " Thank you Miss Soul Reaper I am grateful for your kindness."

Squinting her eyes, visibly disliking Raian's intentional attitude, Soul Reaper took her palm off his shoulder, setting him free. "Anyways interesting aspect, it's reinforcing your body."

R "It's an everyday aspect, Miss Reaper." Acting sincerely Raian tried to bow to Soul Reaper but a sudden feeling of disgust stopped his movement midway.

Ignoring Raian's fake attitude and strange movement, Soul Reaper had left.

Almost gagging from the churning feeling inside himself Raian stood straight again puzzled by the sudden feeling,

'No time to think now, I will figure it out along the way.'

Raising his right hand and snapping his fingers, a female figure face blocked by the hat drooping low in the front rushed out from the alleyway with neatly folded clothes, a tube of synthetic paste, and a bottle of water placed above the clothes.

Standing in the police station offering a tracksuit, Raian took the tube of synthetic paste and drank it all in one motion, giving it to her.

The figure holding the clothes took the tube back as he asked, "Did things go as expected Boss?"

Opening the water bottle Raian stood silently as he finished quenching his thirst.

"Somewhat...... it's complicated." giving the bottle back and taking the large coat alongside the fedora.

"I am sure you can manage well Boss." the girl replied genuinely.

"Thanks, Claire, now could you drive back?" Raian said as he wore the coat outside the tracksuit carrying fedora on his left and his 3-piece suit on the other.

He switched to a tracksuit before entering the nightmare and got it back when leaving the police station.

"Of course, the boss's next stop is the headquarters." Moving southwards the girl moved first.

Laughing at the girl's statement, Raian followed the girl. "To call that shabby place our headquarters is funny."

The girl stopped before a black car answered back. "Precisely because it's shabby I call it our headquarters, we could have renovated it, but someone forced all the funds into opening a restaurant in the upper district." and she entered the car sitting in the driver's seat.

Following the girl, Raian got into the car. "Flaw Hun? Was that my fault, but there were no weapons or armor involved?"
