Chapter 25: Basement

John suddenly jumped and hid behind the big bushes grown in the yards of the house. Natasha also jumped into it. She didn't know what was happening. She whispered,

"Why are we hiding June?"

John pointed his finger towards the house. She looked at the place and saw a rabbit. Her face began to change. She slowly came out and said,

"Really? You're afraid of rabbits now?"

John whispered,

"It might be the same as the monster we just encountered. It will change its form."

Natasha became disappointed and said,

"John, stop acting like a child. It's just a rabbit. Look over there. (She pointed her finger towards some kids standing beside the road) it's their rabbit. They are afraid to come to this house and take it away. You can see the girl is holding another rabbit in her hands. It must be the pair."

John looked at the place where Natasha pointed. He saw the kids and understood that she's saying the truth. He got up and cleared his throat. He said,

"Yeah. I know that I knew it was theirs. I was just testing you. Good work."

Natasha said,

"Yeah right!"

After saying that John walked towards the rabbit. He picked it up and walked towards the kids. The boy was going to run towards John but the girl stopped him. John understood they were afraid to get in the compound. So he got to them and gave it to the boy. He thanked John and the kids ran to their houses. John looked at the house near the haunted one. It was also abandoned.

John turned and walked towards the well. He hoped that he could see that woman he saw that day. Is it the girl who ran away from here? It's been a few years so it's possible. He thought.

John looked inside the well. Even if it was a sunny day, he wasn't able to see clearly inside the well because of the fines covering the top. He decided to come inside it through the basement. He walked into the house. Natasha was following him. He saw the cat was sitting inside the house and he got a mischievous smile. He suddenly turned and ran outside. On the way he said,

"Nat… run. It's that cat again…"

Natasha got scared and flew out. She was screaming on the way. John stopped running and watched her screaming and flying out. Within moment's she came to her senses and asked,

"Wait… What? The cat?."

Natasha turned around and looked at him. She pouted and said,

"You're not funny."

John started laughing. Then he walked towards the hallway. He looked inside and saw that the hole in the hallway was gone. He couldn't believe his eyes. It was like there was never a hole in the first place. Ben was watching everything from outside. John looked at the floor and the floor was dirty like it was never in human contact for years.

Suddenly John felt something was coming towards him. He got up and looked back. It was Ben. Ben was standing there like a zombie. He looked at John. John saw Ben's eyes were red and glowing. His face started to burn from the right side. He looked straight at John and came towards him like a floating ghost.he was screaming out loud. His mouth was flowing with blood. It was so fast John got scared and closed his eyes. He covered his head and sat there like a small child.

Suddenly everything was gone. He slowly opened his eyes and looked around. There was nothing. He exhaled heavily. Suddenly a hand touched his shoulder and he became scared. He looked at the back side. It was Ben's wife. He felt relieved but he wondered why she came there. John asked,

"Ma'am. You scared me to death. What are you doing here?"

She looked at him and smiled. She said,

"A young child coming here and doing something like this. I didn't want to let you go alone."

John nodded in disagreement. He said,

"No ma'am this place isn't safe for you."

Suddenly her voice changed. She was talking in multiple voice,

"This place can't hurt me. I am hurting this place."

John was shocked to hear that. He looked back and saw her head twisted upside-down. Her face started to fall. She came towards John. She scratched his hands with her long nails. She called,

"JUNE…"

John screamed out loud.

"June… June… What happened to you.?

John wakes up from daydreaming. It was more like a nightmare. He looked around and realized that it was just a bad dream. But he felt it was more than that. He felt it was real. Natasha suddenly noticed something and asked,

"June. Your hand is bleeding."

John looked at his hand. It was having the cut from yesterday and now there's another three. It looked like he was scratched by someone's nails. John looked at the floor of the hallway. The hole was in there just as it was yesterday.

John decided to go and take a look inside. He didn't let the little scratch hold him back.

He opened his backpack and pulled out a rope and tied it on the handle of the stairs. Then he threw it into the basement.

Natasha was worried about John but she knew him. If he decides something it's impossible to change him. She flew down there to check the place. She wanted to make sure that nothing was a threat. John struggled to get down because of his injury.

But somehow he managed to get down. Natasha stood behind him. Her eyes were showing her worries about John. He pulled out a flashlight from his backpack. It seemed like the place had become more dark.

The sunlight coming through the broken roofs cast eerie shadows as John walked into the mysterious basement, determined to unlock the secrets hidden beneath the haunted house. Natasha, concerned for John's safety, flew around, ensuring the surroundings were secure.

The air in the basement felt heavy, along with a history long forgotten. John, ignoring the continued pain in his hand, carefully walked through the dimly lit space. As he explored, Natasha kept a watchful eye, her caring presence was the only support he had under that house.

In the darkness, they stumbled upon the reminders of the past – dusty furniture covered in white sheets, broken mirrors reflecting fractured images. John's flashlight flickered as he examined an old photo hanging on the damp wall. It was a drawing of an old family, their smiles frozen in time, yet there was an unsettling aura. John suspected that was the family that lived there. But he didn't notice that photo yesterday. Not only that, it was different from the photo he found yesterday.

As they walked further, the air became colder, and Natasha sensed a change in the atmosphere. John, undeterred, pressed on, his determination fueled by a curiosity to uncover the truth behind the haunted tales.

Suddenly, a distant whisper echoed through the basement, sending shivers down John's spine. Natasha, sensing an otherworldly presence, warned him to walk cautiously. The shadows seemed to dance, taking on shapes that hinted at a ghostly appearance.

In the mysterious dark place, John stumbled upon a concealed doorway, hidden behind layers of dust and cobwebs. Natasha, perched on his shoulder, urged him to explore the unknown. The door creaked open, revealing a hidden chamber filled with ancient artifacts and an ancient, dusty book.

John walked in, reached for the book and began deciphering its cryptic pages. The words unfolded a tale of lost souls and unfinished business, connecting the dots between the mythical stories and the history of the haunted house.

As they walked deeper into the secrets of the haunted house, the basement echoed with the ghostly whispers of the past, setting the stage for a quest to unravel the mysteries that bound the spirits to the living world.

John felt like this was a new place. He never saw or felt anything like this yesterday. Everything seems to have changed somehow. He remembered the way that led him to the well. The well was not actually a well but a doorway to another dimension. Only the ones who know the ritual know how to open it. John understood all this from the book of the church's library.

John wanted to check out the doorway once again but he didn't find the way to get there. Natasha felt something was following them. She kept looking backwards but saw nothing. She didn't even feel anything but her mind repeatedly said that something was following them. That time John saw a sword lying on the floor.

He tried to pick it up but when he touched it, he started falling into an endless pit. He was falling and falling for a long time. He started feeling that it's really endless. At that moment he touched the ground. He fell on the ground and tried to get up.

He looked around and saw it was an old village. Or it might be said as if it 'was' an old village because every house, every human and everything was burning.
