Chapter 5: Enjoying the day

Seated at the dining table, Alex found himself in the company of Lily and Mia, both enjoying glasses of orange juice.

"Why are you here?" Alex inquired, directing his question to Mia.

"It's Sunday, and I just wanted to kill some time," Mia replied casually.

"So, you found only my room to hang out?" Alex questioned, a hint of frustration in his tone.

"Yes, but I am here for this cute little girl," Mia responded, pointing towards Lily.

Alex felt a tinge of frustration, but it quickly dissipated when Lily handed him a glass of juice. "Here, take this, Uncle!" she said with a sweet expression.

Watching Lily's cute gesture, Alex's frustration melted away, and he accepted the glass. "Just call me Alex this time," he said, a soft smile forming.

"Okay, Alex!" Lily replied with a bright smile.

"Okay, Alex!" Mia added, joining in the playful exchange, creating a moment of camaraderie around the dining table.

After a brief lull, boredom started to creep into the room. Mia, Alex, and Lily found themselves in need of a new source of entertainment. Lily, ever resourceful, rummaged through her bag and triumphantly pulled out a board game.

"How about we play this game?" Lily suggested, holding the box with enthusiasm.

"What's that game?" Alex inquired, curious about the new challenge.

"It's some board game that involves business tricks," Mia explained, studying the game's contents.

"Okay! Let's play the game," Alex agreed, intrigued by the prospect of a strategic challenge.

As they set up the board and went through the rules, Alex found himself initially confused about the intricate details. However, Mia's guidance and Lily's eagerness helped him grasp the nuances of the game.

Once they started playing, Alex's competitive spirit kicked in, and he began to adapt well to the strategies involved. The game unfolded with a mix of laughter, playful banter, and strategic moves.

"You seem to adapt well," Mia observed, acknowledging Alex's growing comfort with the game.

"Nah, I will win," Lily confidently added, determined to prove her skills.

"You will see," Alex responded with a hint of competitiveness, eager to embrace the challenge.

In the end, after a series of twists and turns, Alex emerged as the victor, securing a clear majority in the game.

"You see, I am the winner," he declared with a triumphant smile, reveling in the playful victory.

"It's cheating! Let's restart the game again," Mia protested, exhibiting a determination to level the playing field.

"Yeah! Let's restart," Lily chimed in, her enthusiasm undiminished by the outcome, ready for another round of delightful competition around the board.

Alex emerged victorious in multiple rounds, earning a series of wins in the board game. Lily, expressing her dissatisfaction, accused him, "It's cheating, Alex!"

Checking the time, Alex, with a sudden surge of enthusiasm, suggested, "How about lunch, guys?"

Excitement quickly filled the air as both Mia and Lily, in agreement, expressed their anticipation.

As Alex presented them with a selection of fast food, typical of his usual meals, confusion played on the faces of Mia and Lily.

"What's this?" Mia queried with a furrowed brow.

"It's our lunch," Alex responded with a touch of pride.

"No human will eat this," Mia retorted, her skepticism evident.

"But I eat this," he defended his culinary choice.

"That's what I said," Mia responded, her tone unimpressed.

Turning towards Lily with a playful smile, Mia inquired, "How about my cooking?"

"Yeah!" Lily cheered, her anticipation evident.

"Can I borrow your kitchen?" Mia asked Alex, who, with a nod, agreed to share his culinary domain.

Upon opening the fridge, Mia discovered its near emptiness, save for a few lingering alcohol cans. "Why the hell is your fridge empty?" she couldn't help but question.

"I don't usually cook," Alex admitted, unveiling a part of his daily life.

"Uhh! Let's go buy some," she suggested, her readiness to embark on a culinary adventure lighting up the room.

"Let's go, Lily!" Mia said, and with shared excitement, they both left the apartment in pursuit of fresh ingredients.

Realizing the culinary escapade unfolding, Alex swiftly made his way to his apartment, secured the door with a lock, and then hastily followed them.

Arriving at the store, Mia turned to Lily, asking, "So Lily, what do you want?"

With a thoughtful expression, Lily suggested, "How about some chicken?"

"Alright, let's go!" Mia responded, and the culinary companions ventured forth into the store.

Efficiently navigating the aisles, Mia gathered essential ingredients, including eggs, carrots, cabbage, and onions, while Lily enthusiastically selected a pack of chicken, her choices reflecting a vibrant collaboration.

With shopping bags filled, they returned to Alex's apartment, the promise of a shared culinary adventure echoing in the air. Mia, taking charge of the kitchen, exhibited her culinary prowess, leaving Lily and Alex eagerly awaiting the gastronomic creation.

In a surprisingly short span, Mia presented a delightful dish, the aroma of which filled the room, awakening the senses.

Seated around the dining table, they indulged in their portions, the flavors creating a harmony of culinary delight.

"It's very delicious, Mia!" Lily exclaimed, her joyful approval echoing.

"That's my specialty," Mia said with a warm smile, embracing the role of a culinary maestro.

"It's not better than Miss Emma's food," Alex playfully remarked, his subtle tease tinged with a touch of nostalgia.

"Then no food for you," Mia teased back, playfully attempting to grab his plate.

Quick to correct, Alex chimed in, "Sorry, it's good," savoring each bite with an appreciation for the culinary journey that unfolded unexpectedly in his humble abode.

As the evening settled in, Emma returned to pick up Lily from Alex's home. She pressed the doorbell, and in a slightly groggy state, Alex answered the door.

"Good evening, Miss Emma," he greeted, rubbing his eyes.

"Good evening! Where's Lily?" Emma inquired.

"Oh, she's inside. Come in," Alex invited Emma, opening the door a bit wider to allow her entry.

Emma stepped inside and her eyes fell upon the scene in the living room. Mia and Lily were peacefully asleep on the couch, nestled close to each other. The remnants of a day filled with games and laughter lingered in the quiet room.

"They must have dozed off after playing some games," Alex explained with a smile, the warmth of camaraderie evident in the air.
