Chapter 23: Crisis averted

"I'm going too!" Emma Kensington spoke up.

"Two people are enough. If possible, take care of her!" Clark smiled at Emma Kensington. This kind of task was better suited for a man.

"Don't go..." Olivia Turner's voice trembled, but she knew she couldn't stop him.

Clark and Joseph changed into diving suits, each holding a laser gun, and walked into the tail compartment. Two waves of bubbles were ejected from the submarine's tail, making the giant catfish think it was another cannon attack. It dodged immediately.

However, it didn't expect that this time, two live humans were shot out, both aiming their lasers at it simultaneously.

Especially the laser shot by Clark hit its right eye directly, causing it to roll in pain in the water and immediately cease its attack. The submarine took advantage of the opportunity to escape, and everyone else was safe.

But now Clark and Joseph had become the target of the giant catfish.

In the pitch-black water, unable to see their own hands, except for the laser gun providing a slight sense of security, the rest was an endless feeling of fear. Clark could feel the turbulence of the water around him; that creature was nearby!

"Ding!

The system detects that both beautiful ladies are concerned about the host's life safety, increasing goodwill, and issuing a reward - Night Vision, which allows clear visibility in pitch-dark environments! Can be used three times!"

The system unexpectedly spoke up, directly issuing the reward and then fell silent.

"Perfect timing!" Clark laughed, activating the night vision, making everything in front of him visible.

As he guessed, the giant catfish was lurking nearby in the darkness, not rushing to attack but slowly approaching, its mouth slightly open, ready to bite.

Clark held his breath, making no movements. The distance between them grew shorter and shorter, and when the giant catfish's mouth was less than two meters away from Clark, it opened wide, ready to bite him.

Clark raised the gun, aimed directly at the fish's eye, and fired a laser. The laser hit its left eye directly, causing the catfish to roll in pain in the water, both eyes burned by the laser. The giant catfish, now practically blind, swam away towards the distance.

Crisis averted!

Joseph didn't know exactly what had happened, but he saw the giant catfish fleeing and the part of the struggle between Clark and the fish. Joseph swam over, gave Clark a thumbs up, expressing his admiration.

Both surfaced.

"You did great!" Joseph complimented Clark as they floated on the water.

" I want to go!" Emma Kensington spoke up.

"Is everyone else safe?" Clark asked.

Joseph nodded. After thinking for a moment, he spoke, "You seem to have a conflict with that Michael. He's still a squad leader. When you arrive at the fortress, if no one takes care of you, it might not be easy for you."

Clark understood Joseph's implication but remained silent, waiting for Joseph to continue.

Seeing that Clark wasn't taking the bait, Joseph spoke up, "I do have a good place to recommend to you, but I don't know if you'd be willing to consider it."

"Thank you, I'd like to see what kind of fortress you're talking about before deciding," Clark politely declined.

From the current situation, the strength of the Human Survivor Alliance was probably much more formidable than he had imagined. Aside from conventional weapons, they even possessed large equipment like submarines, resembling a military force.

The fact that they could sustain such combat power indicated significant backing and hinted at a vast number of surviving humans. The relationships within this organization seemed intricate and complex.

After one or two hours, the submarine resurfaced to pick up Clark and Joseph, but the people who were previously in the cabin were nowhere to be seen.
