Chapter 4: Chapter 4: First Day on the Marine Base
As soon as Law gripped the heart tightly, a marine standing beside the shirtless man immediately dropped on his knees gripping his chest and crying out in pain.
Looking at him, the shirtless man, who was ready to charge at Law, took a step back unconsciously and his face had a worried expression.
Law smiled at this. He knew this was the reaction they would have. These people are Marines, but Marines who are stranded on a marine base in a remote location. They live with these Marines all year long and they don't have anyone else but each other. They are basically closer to each other than their actual family.
They surely will sacrifice their lives to catch criminals, but they obviously wouldn't let their family members die due to their actions.
Law stopped squeezing the heart and sent the heart back to where it was before. That eased the pain of the man who was screaming before.
Law then looked at them and said "From now on, your actions will decide the fate of those around you. I will also save some time and tell you that killing me or my friends here will result in everyone here dying. So, don't pull any stunts on us when we have our guards down."
Law paused to look at their faces, which were filled with rage and a hint of hopelessness. Law continued "Since you all know where you stand, we will go over the other important things I wanted to tell you. For that, I need to first talk to the captain of the base."
Everyone there turned to the shirtless man who volunteered for the demonstration. Law said to him "Introduce yourself and tell me all about your base, along with things I need to know that might help you live longer. If you didn't get what I meant, I was asking for things I need to take care so that no one else knows what is happening here."
The shirtless man looked annoyed, but he still complied and said "My name is Tigan, captain of N-7 marine base. There are a total of 124 Marines in this base. My base has all the facilities that a typical marine base has. The only contact with the outside world is the transponder call once a year reporting the things that happened on the base, and the merchant ship that gets us supplies every 6 months."
Law nodded and said "I will personally instruct the Marines that handle these things. As of now, I will tell you what we are going to do from now.
We are here to train, with proper equipment and also people who have experience in fights, but I doubt any of you have real fighting experience since there is no one to fight against."
As soon as Law said that, a few Marines chuckled. Law noticed that and asked Tigan "What's wrong? Did I say something wrong?"
Then, a man with red hair, slightly brown skin, brown eyes and a body that was well trained, stepped forward. He had a smirk on his face when he said "That's why brat, you have to do your homework before coming to class. You see, we are all Marines from the grand line, who were sent to this shitty remote location because we went against the orders of those bratty higher ups. All of us here have experience with pirate scum and are very strong."
Law looked at him and asked "Who are you?"
The man replied "I am Skleth, the Commander of this base."
(Commander is a position below the captain of the base.)
Law said to the crowd "This is really good news. So, we are going to train here until I think we are ready to start our pirate career. You might hate the fact that you are training pirates, but I have an offer that might get you excited.
You are free to beat us up however you want while training and, every month, there is going to be a match where all four of us will fight one marine. If he wins against all four of us, he can get his heart back. Similarly, if we win the next match, we take the heart of someone who has their heart. Also, remember that this offer is valid only till we are training here. If someone who got their heart back, tries to do something that I don't like, I will just kill everyone."
Law finished saying what he wanted to say and then looked at the faces of the Marines, who were very happy with what they just heard. Law went with this plan because he needed the Marines to actually take the whole thing seriously.
If he just asked them to train him, they would just act like they are training him, but won't fight him seriously since that is what Law wants. They need something to motivate them to fight seriously, and that's where the rewards come in. Any person will put in effort only when they know that there is a reward for their effort.
They were all excited and were looking forward to the coming days. Law then ended his instructions by saying "We will start the training from tomorrow. Today you can warm up your rusty bodies while we get used to this harsh environment."
The North Blue has many places covered with snow, so they were pretty used to cold climates, but the marine base had extremely low temperatures and very harsh climate.
Law then asked everyone to leave except for the captain. He wanted to speak with him personally, so he even sent away his friends.
Law then said to Tigan "I want you to tell me everything that you know about the Six powers and how can you get them."
Tigan looked shocked when he heard that. He asked in return "How do you know about the six powers?"
Law replied "I know a lot of things. Also, you should remember that I am the one asking questions."
Tigan clicked his tongue and said "The manual to the six powers are given to every marine captain and higher. A normal marine can also get them with enough strength and acknowledgement from their captain."
Law asked "If they are so easy to get, then why don't many people use the six powers?"
Tigan replied "The six powers are achieved when a person trains their bodies beyond the physical abilities of normal men, gaining superhuman strength. It is not any special technique. You just have to train your body to the highest level. It is not that common because it takes a lot of time to train the body to such level and whoever has achiever this level of strength wouldn't stay as a captain in these seas. They would immediately be transferred to the grand line. That's why users of six powers are not that common."
'There is also an age factor he intentionally omitted.' Law thought.
This is because men can join the Navy when they are 18 and by the time they get to the position of captain, they would be in their 20s or early 30s. This is the time when the body growth slows down. The CP-9 from the show were able to master the six powers since they trained since childhood.
Law asked Tigan "Then, do you have the details to the technique?"
Tigan replied "I forgot them in my old office before I was transferred here."
He tried lying, but he was very bad at it. Law made a room and said "You are very bad at lying."
A book appeared in his hand and Tigan recognised it. Law then started walking away from him after saying "This will be your last chance. Lie to me again and you will loose a precious soldier."
Tigan couldn't do anything and just clenched his fists. He then walked to his commander and said "I am sorry. I didn't know someone had such a devil fruit power. If I was careful, this wouldn't have happened."
The commander said "No captain, no one could have done anything when they were able to possess our people and control them. Also, I don't know how I fainted. I had my suspicions when I was getting my food, so I threw away the whole thing."
The commander was the person who asked Penguin and Shachi what happened to them in the cafeteria earlier.
Law, who was passing by, heard them and answered "I was monitoring everyone. So, I saw you throw away the food and sprinkled a little powder on your collar. So, you just had to breathe and it would work on you."
Law then walked around, looking at all the facilities in the marine base like the gym, the sleeping quarters, the armory, the cafeteria, the tiny library, the nursing room, the watch tower and the treasury, which was completely empty.
He read the book on Six powers as he moved around and said "What Tigan said was actually true. All you have to do is train. This book only contains a few exercises that can help in training, but there is nothing else. Only soru and geppo have information on how to move. The rest are just exercises."
After he was done with the tour of the marine base, he joined his friends. He asked them "What do you think?"
Shachi replied "All the Marines are looking at us like predators ready to kill us. It is going to be like hell from tomorrow."
Law said to them, "From now, I need you guys to stop depending on my devil fruit powers too much. These are Marines and we can't have them learning about my devil fruit powers. I will also stop training my devil fruit powers and just focus on training my room creation time and size of the room."
All three of them nodded. Law continued "This might be a good time to pick a weapon if you plan on using one. I am going to the armory. You can join me if you want."
The three of them followed Law to the armory. They looked at the armory, which was clean even though no one used them. Law went and picked up a sword, since it helps him use his devil fruit powers more efficiently. Shachi decided to go with a small knife and a small pistol.
Penguin went with a long rifle and decided to become the sniper of the crew while Bepo decided that weapons were not suitable for him.
Law said to Penguin and Shachi, "They don't have enough ammo to train your marksmanship, so you have to use arrows for the timebeing."
"What are we going to do now?" Bepo asked.
Law replied "We have to get used to this weather and the best way to do that is by physical training. Let's go to the training grounds."
They started running in the training grounds and only after a few minutes, they could already feel their bodies slowing down, they were strutto breathe since their body parts can't function properly. Their hearts couldn't pump blood properly, their body parts slowed down and they were clumsy and drowsy. These are common symptoms of Hypothermia which occurs when you are in extremely low temperatures.
They were having a hard time adapting to the extreme environment.
Meanwhile, on a ship sailing in the grand line, a weird man with goey body walks into a room and says "Doffy, there is information that Law was at Sparrow Island a year ago. He might still be in the North Blue. Should we go there now and start searching for him?"
A man with weird glasses, pink fur coat and pink hair smiles wide and says "He is now angry due to Corazon's death, so he won't do as I say, but this anger will bring him back to me for revenge. I don't have to look for him, he will come looking for me."
He then let's out his villainous laugh which can scare even a few grown men.
