Chapter 6: Ephiosa
Stepping outside my apartment building, I was met with an amazing sight. The street was crowded with people of different races. Humans, elves, dwarfs, and beastmen. Seeing them in real life was truly different from what I knew on my computer screen. Before interacting with anyone, let me summarize what I know about this world and its different races.
This world is called Ephiosa. Since the beginning of time, this world has been divided into five regions. Each of them is ruled by a different race.
In the south, the dwarfs and the beastmen reside. The kingdom of the beastman covered most of the southern land and was called 'Realm of the Warriors'. Their king is chosen by a test of strength. Meaning only the strongest of their tribe can become the 'Beast King'. The current Beast King is Worgan Destdemona. He's been the head of the Beastmen for nearly 50 years. He received a dozen challenges every year but still remained undefeated.
Their population is around 9 million.
The dwarfs built their kingdom underground. Just under the Ream of the Warriors. It's called the Golden Sanctuary.
As the name implies, it is filled with the countless riches of the world. They are ruled by seven dwarfs who are chosen based on their merits and accomplishments. The seven dwarfs, called the Elders, each have equal power and responsibility. Without permission, one cannot set foot in their kingdom. Their advanced security is enough to threaten even the Beast King.
Their population is around 3 million.
The eastern region is a forest as big as the Realm of the Warriors. In the centre of that forest is the world tree, Yggdrasill. A tree that occupied a quarter of the east in size and an unknown height since nobody has ever been able to reach the top. It is the home of the elves. They are protected by thousands of spirits of nature, so no one with evil intentions can set foot there. The elves are ruled by the royal family Exla, and the current king is Ardemis Exla.
Their population is around 6 million.
The west is the biggest region. It's at least four times bigger than the southern and eastern regions combined. It is the territory of the dragons. It is encircled with giant mountains all around. As a prideful race, the dragons never interact with anyone. Because of that, nothing is known about them. Their current leader or the size of their population is a complete mystery. The only fact that is known about dragons is that they are the most powerful race.
The northern region was described as the darkest region. It was the home of demons, vampires, and orcs. They were at war with the central region,home of humans, for over 1,000 years.
Until 500 years ago, when humans were on the verge of losing the war. The other races refused to get directly involved with them. The dwarfs and beastmen only sent minimum support in the form of equipment and food. The elves didn't take any sides because a lot of humans made pacts with demons, and it was impossible to differentiate between those who didn't. But everything changed when the orcs, seeing the demons winning against humans, decided to invade the western region by themselves.
But that was the biggest mistake the orcs made since the existence of their race. The dragons got angry, and three of them went to the north to teach the orcs a lesson. Those three dragons completely erased the orc race from Ephiosa in a single day. The demons tried to help their ally, but half of their population perished instead. After completing their work, the three dragons went back to the west without a single wound on their bodies.
Witnessing the power of the dragons, the elf decided to help the human race. With their magic and dwarfs' technology combined, they were able to create a device that could identify humans that made a pact with demons.
Since then, the elves, dwarfs, beastmen, and humans have created an alliance called the Heavenly Alliance. The device that could identify demonic pacts was mass-produced and transformed into a smart watch that all races of the Heavenly Alliance had to wear permanently.
Discussing the power of the dragons, the heavenly alliance decided to create an academy where the young prodigies of each race could learn and improve their strength together. That's how Caelestis Academy was founded.
500 years later, a quarter of the central region has become the home of the heavenly alliance. This region was called the Garden of Talents. In the center is Caelestis Academy, and the whole region is under the control of the four directors of the academy. Each director represents one race of the heavenly alliance, and they are appointed directly by the ruler of their respective race.
The rest of the central region is ruled by the Avongus royal family. The current king is Maxwell Avongus. The human population under his rule is around 12 million.
The central region is filled with countless resources that cannot be found in any other region. That's how humans were able to regain their power after the war.
The entire northern region has been completely blocked by a poisonous mist since 500 years ago, so no one knows exactly what happened to the remaining demons and vampires.
Ephiosa has been blessed with peace for 500 years now. Everyone has been cautious of the dragons, but they also understood that unless they are provoked first, the dragon race will not get involved with anyone.
'This peace will soon end, though. With the knowledge of the future I have, I know for a fact that in a few months, the poisonous mist blocking access to the northern region will completely disappear. And the demons will appear again, stronger than they were 500 years ago.'
"Identification please"
Breaking my inner monologue, I realized that I was already in front of the academy gate. A guard was next to me, waiting for my identification. I showed them my smart watch; they scanned it, and after confirming my identity, they opened the gate to let me through.
