Chapter 2: Safety Machine or S.M.
The Doctor had a paper in his hand, which was Mark's sentencing.
"Mark, I have your sentence here. Say's here you are sentenced to the Education Rehabilitation Camp or the E.R.C.''
"What is that?"
"Something that the state is working on."
"Why?"
"I don't know why, don't ask questions on it, you killed two people. I am releasing you earlier than I should because the state wants you to be in the E.R.C. as soon as possible."
After he said that two police men with big rifles came into the room. Terrified, Mark crawled into the corner in order to avoid his fate. The policemen rushed forward towards him, grabbed him by the shoulders, and escorted him to the E.R.C.
It seemed to be an old prison, or maybe it was some old school. Nevertheless, Mark was going into that building. The first room that he entered, there was a machine. It buzzed and whirred and the lights flashed all the time as if trying to communicate something to the humans. The machine scanned Mark for any dangerous materials, and once the green light flashed, they moved forward. The next room was much larger with a single chair in the middle and projector screens all around.
"Hello Mark." The screens turned on as he sat down. "We are here to teach you how to be safe in this new world. We will teach you some new safety protocols and have you recite them when we are finished."
Mark tried to ignore the voice and the lights that flashed across the projectors.
"Mark, we will first start with the easy things and then we will get into the more dangerous items." The voice told Mark in a tubular AI vocal model.
"The first thing that we will start with is the new rail systems on the sidewalk or S.S.R. Anytime that you are traveling on the sidewalk, always make sure to use the railing provided in order to prevent you from tripping and falling and also going into the street, now recite after me please, S.S.R."
Mark refused to recite the acronym. The machine's lights on the projector screen began to turn red.
"Mark, don't do this, you will not want what is coming." The machine said and displayed the words across the red background. Mark still refused to respond. The machine then grew very angry with impatience. "Mark, I will have no choice but to play our reboot movie. Say it Five, Four," Mark stared into the screens with a bit of a smirk on his face, "Three, two, one."
The projector screen went black and the first thing that was notable was the sound of a baby crying. It first started softly, and then the noise became deafening. The screens started to display images of violence and torturously bright colors. Mark's eyes became bloodshot. The machine then started to recite a bunch of buzzwords.
"Playground, childhood, car, window, ground, shelf, box, wardrobe, playground, childhood, car, window, ground, shelf, box, wardrobe, playground-" Mark interjected the noise of the baby crying and the buzzwords "Make it stop! Make it stop, please! I beg you! make it stop! I'll say what you want me to say, just please make it stop!" The machine continued with the buzzwords and the baby to try to get Mark to say the acronym out of fear instead of compliance.

"Fine! S.S.R.! S.S.R! Please stop this noise!"
The machine turned off all of the violent pictures and the baby crying as well as the buzzwords. "Thank you for participating sir. When I say the safety device, then the acronym, you will repeat said acronym. If you understand, please say yes."
"Yes." Mark replied.
"Sidewalk Safety Rail, S.S.R."
"S.S.R."
"Good, we will continue now with the unsharpened pencil. Since most of the trees are dead, you will write on stone tablets now with an unsharpened pencil or U.P. This unsharpened pencil will greatly reduce your risk of injury from getting cut or stabbed by a sharp lead. Repeat the said acronym after me please. Unsharpened pencil, U.P."
"U.P."
"Tremendous, we are going to continue with the speed limit safety system or S.L.S.S. The S.L.S.S. will hold everyone accountable for the speeds at which they travel. If even a mile per hour faster than the speed limit you will have broken the law. Car's are dangerous and it's a wonder why the state would still provide such dangerous transportation to the citizens." The machine began playing videos of wrecks and trying to demonstrate how quickly the situation can change. There usually would be a peaceful moment at the beginning and then a violent wreck at the end. Who knows if these videos were real. They very well could be, but it was most likely a generated AI video.
"Repeat after me speed limit safety system or S.L.S.S."
"But the speed had nothing to do with the reason for the accident. People travel at that speed all the time."
The projector screen turned red and the machine's voice sounded angry. "Repeat after me, otherwise I will have no other choice other than to play the Reboot movie."
"Ok, ok. S.L.S.S. Happy?"
"Yes." The machine stated and flowers and wonderful colors appeared on the screens.
This brainwashing process continued for a couple weeks and eventually there was a sort of rhythmic feeling of song how the machine would give the answer to Mark for the question it asked.
"Traveling down the sidewalk dangers await. S.S.R." The machine stated.
"S.S.R." Mark Replied.
"Your sharpened pencil has too many dangers to it. U.P."
"U.P."
"Higher speeds can kill you S.L.S.S."
"S.L.S.S."
"Your favorite color. R.G.B."
"R.G.B"
"Cold is dangerous, P.C.P.D."
"P.C.P.D."
"Good, we are going to move on to system protocol. Please recite your plea."
"Happiness is an ever eluding concept,
Driven mad with delusional feelings of madness and chaos,
Staying pure of emotion will give me peace." Mark Stated his plea.
"Moving on to happiness, what makes you happy?"
"Happiness."
"Do you ever feel down?"
"Happiness."
"Does the system make you feel happy?"
"Happiness."
"Where do you go to feel happy?"
"Happiness."
"Moving onto concept. Do you ever feel the system as a concept?"
"Concept."
"Would you care to elaborate?"
"Concept."
"Where would you be in the concept of a system?"
"Concept."
"What gives you a feeling of knowledge?"
"Concept."
"What is the state as a whole?"
"Concept."
"What are you?"
"Concept."
Moving onto Driven, What makes you driven?"
"Driven."
"Why were you able to lift the car when the kid was underneath?"
"Driven."
"What causes you to complete your daily chores?"
"Driven."
"Where do you go for motivation?"
"Driven."
"Moving on to chaos. Do you feel a sense of chaos?"
"Chaos."
"Would you tell me what chaos feels like?"
"Chaos."
"What gives you the feeling of chaos?"
"Chaos."
"What was the Sand Creek Massacre?"
"Chaos."
"What does a baby's cry sound like?"
"Chaos."
"Why won't you have children?""
"Chaos."
"Moving onto pure, is the state pure?"
"Pure."
"What makes something pure?"
"Pure."
"Would you happen to be pure?"
"Pure."
"Why are you pure?"
"Pure."
"Is it because the state is pure, and you are a member of the state?"
"Pure."
"Is everyone pure under the state?"
"Pure."
"Finally, moving onto peace. Are you at peace?"
"Peace."
"What gives you peace?"
"Peace."
"Does the state give you peace?"
"Peace."
"Is the state peaceful?"
"Peace."
"Happiness is given to those who deem worthy by the state,
You are one within the concept of the state,
The state finds you worthy of happiness,
You are a driven individual who empowers the state,
You will not have children because children are chaotic,
You are pure only because you are part of the state and have been redeemed by them.
You are at peace because we say you are. Recite your plea, and then we will be finished."
