Chapter 36: Chapter 36 : Disrupting an ambush(3)

I aimed my mana pistol with precision at the head of a troll, squeezed the trigger, and watched as the projectile pierced through its skull. The troll crumpled to the ground, lifeless.

"These things are quite handy against the lower-tier monsters," I remarked, acknowledging the effectiveness of the mana pistol in dispatching such adversaries.

''Charge this for me," I said, handing the mana pistol to a young soldier behind me. He looked at me with a bit of confusion but nodded, quickly scrambling to reload the weapon.

Damn, I love having such authority....

My arousal towards power was abruptly interrupted by the sight of a goblin charging toward me. The creature, clad in chainmail and brandishing a club, emitted a high-pitched shriek as it raised the weapon menacingly. I couldn't help but acknowledge the added challenge the goblin's chainmail posed, realizing that dealing with this adversary might prove to be more demanding than the others.

Seeing the goblin wearing chainmail, I knew my usual method of attacking anywhere wouldn't work as well. The chainmail provided protection against slashes , so I had to think differently. I had two options: either use more power in my sword to pierce through the chainmail with a strong thrust , or aiming for vulnerable spots like the legs, neck, or face, however, my eyes soon fell towards a third option – the goblin's flailing club.

The goblin swung his club in a predictable up-and-down motion. Given its smaller size compared to me, overpowering it was relatively easy. I seized the moment, grabbing its arm just beside the armpit. Simultaneously, I executed a swift kick to the back of its heel, causing the goblin to collapse to the ground.

With the goblin momentarily disabled, I retrieved the sword I had taken from one of his fallen comrade and, without hesitation, drove the blade through its forehead. The strike ensured a swift and relatively painless end for the creature.

"Another man's pleasure is another man's trash, but it will do," I muttered as I picked up the goblin's club. It promised to be a handy weapon for dealing with adversaries clad in chainmail, offering a different means of confronting the armored foes.

As I quickly disposed of the previous govlin I noticed a kobold's malicious grin as it lunged forward with a lance in hand, thrusting it toward me. Just as easily as I had done with the goblin I evaded the attack, exploiting the brief vulnerability to seize the end of the lance. With a forceful pull, I overpowered the kobold, causing it to stumble awkwardly in my direction.

The kobold, with its scaly, reptilian features, hissed in frustration as it struggled to maintain balance. Grateful for the protection offered by my chained glove, I skillfully avoided any self-inflicted injuries . In that moment, a silent acknowledgment of gratitude whispered through my mind, directed towards Caer , as thanks are to be given where needed.....

"Hello....." I greeted with a devilish smile, raising the stolen club high above my head. With precision, I struck the kobold at the temple, disorienting it. After that I Forcefully brought down my weight against the neck of the creature, I ensured a swift and decisive end to its existence. ''..:And farewell''

I walked back to the soldier, retrieving my mana pistol from him. With a nod of appreciation, I expressed my gratitude for his assistance in charging the weapon, before returning to the battefield.

Sure enough it seemed that I was missed in the brief time I was out . as a raging troll sprinted toward me, its eyes bloodshot and filled with fury. Despite the threat, I calmly walked towards it, after all that thing was too slow to be of actual danger for me . The troll swung its massive axe down at me, but I skillfully rolled to the ground. Seizing the opportunity, I thrust my dagger just below the knee of the creature, causing it to shriek in pain and fall to one knee.

With the troll momentarily incapacitated, I swiftly positioned my gun at its temple and fired a shot, causing blood to spurt out from the other side. Unintentionally, the blood sprayed onto the armor of a nearby soldier. The soldier, turning around in confusion, witnessed the dead troll with a hole in its temple. I raised my hand as a brief apology before redirecting my attention to the ongoing battle against another monster.

Bloody fucking hell....how many monsters are there? The more we kill the more arrive while our lines continue to thin out, if this continue maybe we will break just through the sheer numbers of monsters....

As I was deep into thought however a single shout filled the air, in surprise I turned around as I saw one of the soldiers from the county pointing at the front while shivering. And as I followed the finger I immediately realised the reason...ahead of us was the master of the dungeon and just as we feared it was a demon....

The demon was brought forth in a grandiose sedan chair, an air of regality surrounding its ominous presence. Two formidable horns protruded from its skull, giving it a menacing silhouette. Its skin bore a cold, gray hue, and its nails were as sharp as claws, hinting at the lethal power within. The eyes of the demon, cold and unfeeling, surveyed the unfolding battlefield with a bored indifference, instilling a sense of dread among those who met its gaze.On top of his head, a small wooden crown rose for everyone to see , It was not a simple ornament as much as part of his body as it was embedded on his skull. I knew very well that that wooden crown was basically the badge given to demon's commanders, which meant that ahead of us there was probably one of the twelve high demons serving the demon king.

He looks a bit like.... Xerxes from 300?Well he got the same arrogance as him , it appears...

I turned on my heel and caught sight of Victor, his expression tinged with a hint of fear and nervousness . Glancing back at the demon being brought in, I couldn't discern the demon's identity,as the novel describe them in a too vague way , but by the look on Victor's face, it was clear that this was one of the twelve demons he had mentioned at the outset of the raid.

It seems like our situation is not as good as we thought, nonetheless, we still had the mana cannon so if everything went right we still had a chance....my attempt to reassure myself was cut short as I glanced towards the rear, only to witness the engineering core being overrun by the relentless onslaught of monsters. The words got stuck in my throat; the realization hit hard that our only chance to turn the tide had been lost.

Maybe I should just turn around and desert the battle? After all who cared if some bastard died , what was important for me is that I would be alive to see the start of another day, the rest came as secondary....
