Chapter 14: Poison Pill

The next day, at Lin Yue's home, Fang Yuan arrived on time at the classroom where Lin Yue taught medical skills. Upon entering the room, Fang Yuan saw Lin Yue sitting behind the lectern, reading a book. Many disciples were seated at their respective places, preparing for the class. However, what surprised Fang Yuan was the strange expressions on their faces when they saw him. There was a faint smile and a subtle sense of subservience.

'What's going on?' Fang Yuan wondered, and then he vaguely guessed the reason. Shaking his head, he turned to Lin Yue and greeted, "Master Lin."

"Ah, you're here," Lin Yue said, glancing at the disciples below. Then he said to Fang Yuan, "I heard that you don't study seriously, just skim through each book quickly?"

Fang Yuan was slightly surprised but smiled, "I have a good memory, so I can read quickly."

Upon hearing Fang Yuan's reply, Lin Yue couldn't help but be amazed. "You really have such a skill? Let me test you." Lin Yue asked, "What is the first sentence on the thirtieth page of the medical book I gave you?"

Fang Yuan didn't hesitate and immediately answered, "Rheum officinale, tasting sweet, can detoxify wounds."

Lin Yue, surprised, stroked his white beard. "Word for word, I didn't expect you to have such a photographic memory."

The disciple in front of Fang Yuan dropped the book he was holding with a clatter. “Is this a joke?”he thought, looking at Fang Yuan on the stage. Seeing Fang Yuan's calm demeanor, the disciple felt bitter and picked up the book on the ground.

"Since you have an eidetic memory, you can study in my study alone," Lin Yue said, looking at Fang Yuan in amazement. "With your ability to memorize, you will probably learn all these medical books in no time. Study well, and if you have any questions, come and ask me."

Lin Yue left the study, leaving Fang Yuan alone with the vast array of medical books. Fang Yuan felt joy in his heart. With these medical books, his purpose for coming here to learn from a Master was almost fulfilled.

Taking a deep breath, Fang Yuan quickly picked up a medical book from the shelf and began to read. A month later, in Lin Yue's courtyard, Fang Yuan was surrounded by many disciples, and one of them was receiving acupuncture treatment from him. After a while, Fang Yuan removed the silver needles from the disciple and put them back into the needle box.

"Not bad, you've learned all my acupuncture techniques, and you've memorized the meridian map. You've learned all my medical skills; what's left is to accumulate experience and refine your skills slowly," praised Lin Yue on the side.

Fang Yuan replied with a smile, "It's all thanks to your guidance, teacher. Your teachings have greatly contributed to my progress."

Although Lin Yue knew that Fang Yuan's words were just flattery, he couldn't help but smile. Fang Yuan was different from others, and being his teacher was also Lin Yue's good fortune.

With a passing thought, Lin Yue said, "You don't need to attend classes from now on, but if you encounter any difficult medical cases, you can come and ask me."

"Thank you, teacher. I'll take my leave." Fang Yuan nodded and left.

Watching Fang Yuan's departing figure, the surrounding disciples had complex expressions, and their gazes were varied. Fang Yuan had completed the course that took them several years to learn in just one month, leaving many disciples unsure of what to say. If Fang Yuan's talent was only slightly better than theirs, they might have harbored resentment. However, Fang Yuan's talent far exceeded theirs, making it impossible for them to feel any jealousy; they could only silently admire him.

Though some disciples wanted to flatter Fang Yuan, they were aware of the insurmountable gap between them, so no one dared to ingratiate themselves with him.

Exiting Lin Yue's courtyard, Fang Yuan silently sensed his inner breath and nodded to himself. "After a month of cultivation, my inner breath has grown rapidly, and it's almost reaching completion."

"All of this is the result of the combined power of two different cultivation systems from two worlds." Even though Fang Yuan's current body had mediocre aptitude, the synergy of the two world's cultivation systems accelerated his progress like riding a rocket.

Up to now, he has already crossed the threshold of initial inner breath completion and is about to reach the stage of small achievement.

"After reaching the small achievement in inner breath, I'll be able to use more inner breath, and the duration will also be longer."

Silently observing his own body's condition, Fang Yuan briskly walked back home. Pushing open the door, Fang Yuan saw three children around ten years old sitting attentively, not diverting their eyes from the teachings of the Master in front of them. Seeing this scene, Fang Yuan nodded faintly.

These three children were orphans he had adopted, two boys and one girl, chosen by him specifically to serve as his core team. Although they were still young, they were all carefully selected by him, intelligent and, due to their respective tragic experiences, deeply attached to the person who saved them.

"As soon as they grow a bit older, I can teach them some martial arts, and then they can start assisting me."

As for now, they were not of much use, and everything still relied on Fang Yuan's personal efforts. With this thought in mind, Fang Yuan didn't disturb their studies and went alone to a quiet room.

The quiet room was furnished with a stove, medicine box, silver needles, and various other items related to medical skills. This was Fang Yuan's place for refining medicine.

"Medicine and poison are two sides of the same coin. Learning medicine is equivalent to learning most of poison techniques."

Sitting in front of the stove, Fang Yuan watched the various strangely shaped medicinal herbs around him and silently ignited the stove.

"Although what I learned from Lin Yue is medical skills, I've already understood all about the toxicity of drugs."

Watching the earthen jar on the stove being scorched by the flames, Fang Yuan, according to his plan, sequentially placed various medicinal herbs into the jar.

After a long time, seeing that all the medicinal herbs in the jar had been boiled into a paste, Fang Yuan extinguished the fire and took out the medicinal paste. After the paste had cooled down, Fang Yuan kneaded it into small pills, then placed them in a small bottle.

Looking at the small bottle in his hand, Fang Yuan's mind stirred, "Let's find something to test this poisonous pill."
