Chapter 36: Fight?

Lex and John stopped in their tracks as they looked at the beautiful scenery in front of them.

In an enormous hall painted white, a beautiful girl with long white hair, which she kept open, practised with her sword. But she did it in such a way that made it look like she was dancing elegantly. Where she passed, ice formed as if wanting to dance alongside her.

It was a mesmerizing sight.

Lex raised his eyebrows as he recognized the girl.

Gwendolyn Frostleap. The president of the Student Council of Aethrian Academy.

He had to say he was surprised to see the beautiful artwork in front of him. It was something that would make you want to watch it forever.

But he wasn't here to watch someone else's practice. He turned his head towards John and made a questioning look.

John scratched the back of his head and responded, "She's also a Platinum card holder, so she must have entered using her card like I told you before. I'm really sorry about this, as I can't help you in this matter."

Lex was rather surprised. He was a major shareholder in the company, and even then, someone else was being prioritized, which only meant that person's status was high.

"Who is she? Can you tell me?" Lex asked.

John lowered his voice and answered, "Her name is Gwendolyn Frostleap, the adopted daughter of the Dean of Aethrian Academy."

Lex finally understood why John was hesitant. Gwendolyn had actually an SS-RANK ability user behind her, so obviously, even a major shareholder like him doesn't matter.

Lex nodded and said, "You can go, I'll handle it here."

John smiled and thanked Lex since he didn't want to be included in their matter. After thanking him, John went back to the way he had come from.

Lex crossed his arms on his chest as he watched Gwendolyn practising. She was so immersed in her practice that she didn't even notice Lex standing there.

[She certainly is talented, don't you think so?]

'For sure, she'll probably be an S-Rank Ability user in the future. She can also go higher, but the chances of that are slim. Not everyone can get to the SS-RANK after all.' Lex said. 'Then there is also the rumoured SSS-RANK that only a few, including the kings, have reached.'

[I'm pretty sure there is one more stage, well, not really a stage, but whatever.]

'Ho ho, now you made me interested. Tell me about it.'

[I can't, and you know the reason.]

'Fuck heavenly principles.'

[Just make sure they don't hear your wishes and really fuck you. Offending heavenly principles could be fatal, you know.]

'Yeah, yeah, I'll see it when it comes.'

[*sigh* whatever. I can just tell that I've sensed some things here in this world that shouldn't be here since this isn't really a prime world or something.]

'Hmm, so something that an alien brought?'

[Could be, but I'll advise you to remain alert.]

'Got it, thanks for that.'

As Lex was talking with the system, the practice of Gwendolyn finally ended and she had finally noticed Lex.

Lex walked forward and entered the hall filled with ice. He asked, "If you have finished your practice, can I use the hall now?"

Gwendolyn continued to stare at Lex for some seconds without saying anything. Lex felt awkward but still kept walking towards her.

Finally, as if making her decision, Gwendolyn raised her sword and pointed it at Lex. She said, "You have to defeat me if you wish to practice here."

Lex was speechless. It was just a practice hall, why was she being so serious? But he also wanted to practice his Pyromancy, so what better way than to have a fight?

[You don't care about her knowing of your ability?]

'As I have said before, I have the perfect excuse for it. Besides, I don't really care if others get to know I have Pyromancy. Now that I think about it, it may even be useful.'

[Useful?]

'Yes, The Obsidian Council had been wary of me because of my mysteriousness, and they already know that I have two abilities.

[Ah! I get it now. No need to explain.]

'Hmm, that's why I don't have a problem in revealing my Pyromancy to someone like her. Considering her position, we can trust her on that.' Lex said. 'Now give me some proficiency on Pyromancy, I don't wanna be embarrassed in front of her.'

[*sigh* Fine.]

Lex closed his eyes as he pretended to ponder over Gwendolyn's question. In reality, he was just digesting the sudden information and feeling the subtle changes in his body.

He was getting familiar with the Pyromancy and even had muscle memories as if he had been practising for years.

Gwendolyn didn't interject Lex as she simply waited for his answer while pointing her sword at him.

Finally, Lex sighed and said, "Fine! Let's do this then."

"Good! You can take whatever weapon you want from that room." Gwendolyn said as she gestured towards the room at the corner of the hall.

Lex nodded and went towards the room. He couldn't fight a Swordswoman with his fist, right? Well, if he had a body-strengthening ability, then maybe, but he didn't have that.

He entered the room and was surprised. There was almost everything here needed for a battle, from simple weapons like kitchen knives to even bombs. What were they gonna do with bombs?

Lex shook his head and ignored the other weapons. He didn't really like them and went towards the section where daggers were. They were his favourite.

He looked through the various types of daggers and chose one he was familiar with. They were twin daggers as he was used to dual-wielding.

After playing with the daggers in his hand, he went back to the hall.

Lex and Gwendolyn stood on two sides of the hall as they looked dead in each other's eyes. Both had their battle stance ready as they waited for the opportunity to strike.
