Chapter 29: Stolen

After hiding the corpses properly Kai stood up, but before he could even take a step away from there he heard the voices and footsteps of several people walking in his direction, they would be able to reach him in less than a minute since they were all running back.

' It seems one of them is missing but only a couple of them are injured, so they would have no problem chasing me and their speed is definitely faster than mine. ' Kai thought, his mind working at full speed.

Running away from them will be difficult and even if he manages to run away from them then he would most probably leave behind a few traces that could put him in even more danger, but he wasn't willing to leave the cores here so he decided to choose the best escape method.

" I knew it, we shouldn't have gone there it was as if those damn huff huff monkeys were waiting there to ambush us, if we haven't escaped in time then we would all huff huff have been wiped out by now. " one of the men shouted, they were all running as fast as they could but it was strange that those strange mindless blazing monkeys haven't followed them out of their territories.

It seemed almost like those beasts had all of a sudden become a lot more intelligent, as even after fighting against so many hunters at the same time, not a single one of them had died while one of the hunters was caught by them.

" Don't bullshit now, we all agreed to go there, and since one of us had been captured then that just means that we will get more money. " The short-haired woman who was the leader of the bunch spoke in an agitated tone.

" Yes, let's just forget about it all, it was a shot worth giving and we are all fine… mostly, so I would say the gamble was not all that bad. " the short man who had suggested it all spoke, he received some nasty glares from the others but they all decided to drop this topic.

" Let's just take the corpses and report back, this much gain should be enough for us to last some time. " the leader ordered and the rest hastened their steps, as they ran towards the corpses.

After a few seconds, they finally arrived in front of the bushes, two of the men walked forward to take the corpses while the rest were holding onto all the alive blazing monkeys, who were still unconscious.

" Fuck!! " The man who was taking the corpse out shouted, then he added: " Someone had been here, they even took the cores of both the beasts. Damn it, and I thought it couldn't get any worse than that. "

The rest of the group frowned and walked forward to look at the corpses, they could see that the bodies of both the demons had new cuts on them, one was a big cut from the throat to the belly while the other was just a small clean cut.

There was a piece of meat lying near them and the cores of both the beasts had disappeared, the intact bodies of beasts sell for higher prices even more so if they are alive, but now that the cores of these beasts have been removed and there were such cuts on the bodies then the value of both the corpses have decreased to almost a quarter.

" Whoever did it must not have gone too far yet, and since they have been in a hurry then they must have left some traces, let's follow them and take back the cores, we can't afford to lose any of them. " The short-haired woman ordered and sent four men and a woman to look around, within seconds they found some footsteps nearby, and after reporting it they began to follow the trail.

An hour passed, and all the member of the group returned back to the meeting point with angry faces, they greatly regretted going to hunt more demons, instead of gaining anything they had lost some of their hunt, many of them even blamed the short guy.

" Damnit, this night can't get any worse let's just go back now, whoever stole our cores has already fled away from here and we can't find that person now, but I'm sure we are definitely going to meet in the future, at that time we can take it all back with interest. Let's leave. "

The short haired woman ordered while the rest of them kept cursing, from the footsteps left behind they have concluded that it was not a group who had stolen their cores but just a single person with rather small feet.

After lingering around that place for some time, they took all the blazing monkeys along with them and left the area, feeling completely dejected but since one of the men had been captured so they would still get nearly the same amount of money.

After they had walked some distance away Kai finally removed the bushes from over his body and slowly got out of there, it was normal human behaviour that they would never think of checking the crime scene to find the culprit.

Before they had arrived he created some footprints on the ground leading in a direction different from the village.

Then he came back near the corpses while jumping over the trees, and then he hid himself in the same bushes where the corpses were hiding, those hunters had checked most of the trees and bushes around but had not even touched these ones.
