Chapter 10: Bee is not a fool you know.

If there's anything Henry's good at, it's bringing life to a boring place. He engages us in an interesting conversation and before long we were all laughing at his exaggerated narration of why he had to break up with his ex girlfriend. We were soon joined by Nat who quickly joined in the conversation, mostly pointing out things he thinks Henry is lying about. We managed to fish out why Henry didn't throw a party this year but opted for something small. He reluctantly told us that he was running away from meeting his ex. He knows if he throws a party, she'll definitely be informed. It wasn't surprising since we all know how she behaves.

Ric rejoins the table about ten minutes later looking calm and collected but didn't say a word to anyone or join in on any of our conversations. He seems focused on whatever he it is he's doing on his phone. It's for the best I decide. We stay for almost an hour more untill Ash says she had to leave, that's when we decide to call it a night. We all say our goodbyes and I hug Henry whispering a soft sorry for what happened.

"It's ok Bee" he replies softly too. I head out with Ash and Ace leaving the guys behind.

I didn't want to ride back with Ric and I hope he isn't expecting me to. Ash offers to give me a ride since we are heading the same way and I gladly accept. We say our goodbyes to Ace and drive off.

"Why did you think Ric behaved the way he did Bee" Ash asks all of a sudden. ( Someone remind me why I chose this ride)

"And why are you asking?" I ask back. Ash is not usually this nosy. That's why I decided to go with her but I guess I made a wrong judgement.

"Who should I ask then?" She throws back at me smiling as if she asked a normal question.

"Go ask Ric" I say "I also want to know the answer to that question" I add and she just keeps quiet. From experience I already know that whatever she says next isn't going to be something I'd like to hear. And true to that she asked the worst question.

"Are you pretending you do not know the answer to that or are you serious Bee?" She asks.

"What makes you think am pretending?"

" Because you are the only one oblivious to the fact that he likes you that's why he acted the way he did."

I just keep quiet. Its not like saying anything will make her believe otherwise.

"It's what everyone sees Bee. Everyone except you" she continues softly while I neither deny nor agree. It's probably best to not say a word.

" We are the people around you and we are just trying to tell you what we see. I know deep within you you know it's the truth but you're just trying hard to deny it." She says and it hits really hard. I know I've been trying to make myself believe that that's not a possibility. But somewhere inside I have these growing doubts I bury so hard and she's trying to bring them to the surface right now. Anytime I think everything is just as it's supposed to be, something happens.

" Can we just drop the topic?" I ask hopefully, giving her a soft smile and she sighs in agreement but quickly adds

"I still think you should talk to Ric"

(Argh, I feel like dropping here).

I think I just managed to surprise myself because I can't believe I'm at Ric's door a few minutes after Ash dropped me at home and before I ring the doorbell I begin to wonder if this is the right thing to do but still manage to somehow do it. I get no response and after a few more tries I realized he's probably not back. I use the passcode to unlock the door not even bothering to remove my shoes, I move inside with them on, heading to the kitchen I open the fridge to retrieve a bottle of water and decide to settle on the kitchen stool. I try to gather my thoughts thinking of what to say to him when he meets me here. I convince myself that am here because Ash thinks it's the right thing to do and not because I was doubting what I have been believing all this while. I think back to the reason I ended up here and I reassure myself that it's all Ashs' fault.

( Why did I listen to her).

After I practically begged her to drop the topic, we rode in silence to my place and when I dropped from the car to head inside she speaks before I get a chance to thank her for the ride.

" Wait Bee" she started

" I know you wouldn't want to hear this but I'll still say it" she adds. ( Talk about taking lessons from Lay).

"I just wanted to still say that you should talk to Ric and don't think too much about all these ok." she continues "If it's just us reading too much into his behavior then it's fine, but as your friend I'll like you to know the truth so you'd know what to do. If you keep running away from asking him then you might never know the truth. You'd just continue believing what you want to and it's not okay." She adds and it really hits home in a way I haven't thought about. I do understand where she's coming from and I know it's the right thing to do but I wonder if I can do it. But then this is Ric and since I'm convinced the others are just delusional I decide to go ask him, that way I'll be sure of the truth. Asking Ric will clarify everything. So I'll do it for my peace of mind and maybe theirs.

"You don't have to do it right away. Just try and think about it okay." she says again.

"Don't worry. I ''ll try" I say finally and she gives me a big smile reaching out to squeeze my hands in support and I let her.

The sound of the keypad draws my attention back to present and before I could go out to let him know am here Nat's voice stops me in place or his words rather.

"You promised not to do that again Ric" Nat says and I wonder what he's talking about. I know it's wrong to eavesdrop on their conversations but I wanted to know what they're talking about.

"I didn't promise that" Ric responds clearly annoyed.

"You promised me you'd never let her know about your feelings but your behavior today says otherwise. Bee is not a fool you know" Nat says quickly and my heart stopped for a bit. Without thinking I open the kitchen door appearing before them watching their eyes go wide in shock.
