Chapter 31: The Results

The sun had risen slowly, but now in different parts of the forest, large curtains of smoke were rising towards the sky with fury. In each of these locations, men in black tactical combat uniforms were burning numerous cabins where they had found the cannibals.

Considering that these resins had killed perhaps hundreds or even thousands of people, counting all the crimes of which we have no knowledge, there was no need to leave anyone alive.

"Trust them; they will send you to a hospital to examine your injuries more thoroughly, and once you recover, do what they order you to do to maintain the peace of the people," Anton said, watching a squirrel run up the tree.

Jessie looked at Anton strangely and asked, "Are you telling me to lie about the monsters in this place?"

"I do it for your own good. Tell me, who would benefit if the story we know about this place was told to the outside world? Everyone is dead, so there will be nothing to worry about in the future." Anton looked at Jessie, who still hadn't grasped a crucial point in this conversation.

Anton wasn't here to play babysitter; he was here to eliminate any trace of evil until something signaled him to stop. If Jessie now tells about what happened here, there will be panic and fear in a few minutes, causing evil to gain power.

No one exactly knows how evil became stronger, but if there is faith thanks to people, then there will also be the possibility that evil comes from people.

"Who exactly are you? You're not a priest, of course, but you're someone with enough power to bring all these people together with just one call," Jessie said, looking at Anton, who had been very quiet after killing all those cannibals.

Anton sighed when he heard this question. He wasn't obligated to answer but still said, "I am a priest; that's the only thing you need to know if you don't want trouble."

At that moment, bears were heard behind both of them, and a man in a combat uniform greeted Anton. "Sir, we've cleared the entire forest and eliminated all targets, thus rescuing more than twenty survivors who were still alive."

"Was there any casualty?" Anton asked, looking at Hank, who had blood on his face.

Hank shook his head and said, "No injuries; those phenomena were more primitive than cavemen, so with our advanced equipment, we could easily eliminate them without any problems."

In terms of combat, the special forces of the Light had superior armor all over their bodies, immediately providing greater security against bullet impacts. Therefore, considering that those cannibals had bows and arrows, there could be no problem unless something unthinkable happened.

"Have they identified the survivors?" Anton had some doubts about the kidnappings he was investigating, and although he was sure this place was involved, he still wanted to confirm if he was right.

Hank checked the information on a smart tablet connected to his arm and said, "Among the survivors, we found several women who were kidnapped, but as for the men, they were all cut and devoured."

Considering the behavior of those phenomena, it was known that they used women for something, and as for the men, they were eliminated to then serve as food for the cannibals.

"Once everything is burned, ignore notifying the local police about what happened; just let them know that we operated in this place and eliminated a group of criminals... As for the elders, I'll leave it to your discretion. If you think they are a problem, then eliminate them." Anton, after knowing that the cleanup operation was a success, wanted to leave this place as soon as possible.

After finishing receiving the information, Anton returned to the road while riding a motorcycle.

On the road, there were several ambulances and many police cars specializing in this work. They all knew who the Agents of Light were, so they all acted according to the standards of what was done in this place.

"Rafael, was there any problem?"

Rafael, who had been taking care of Chris and received help, looked at Anton and smiled slightly, knowing he wasn't injured. "There was no problem on the road, although the van did get heavily damaged."

Anton looked at his damaged van and nodded slightly. "We'll have to make a lot of modifications, increase the glass armor, and equip it better to avoid problems in this type of situation."

Improving the van was very important; they should do it to be prepared for this type of situation. And now that all this was completed, he walked towards a black vehicle parked on the side and said, "Let's go home; I don't think there's anything else to worry about in this place."

Rafael was quite tired, so sleep was what he needed most at this moment.

But just as they were about to leave, an anxious voice was heard behind him. "Anton, thank you very much; you saved my life."

Anton looked at Chris and nodded slightly. Rafael, who also received many thanks, got into the car, and the driver who would take them home stepped on the accelerator.

At least today, they did the right thing to avoid other people getting hurt. Anton wasn't a hero; he just did his job, seeking his own forgiveness.
