Chapter 2: 2...Mate mess up

[Flashback continues]

I experienced my first heartbreak. I had been hoping that maybe, one day, it would be possible for Pete and I to be together when we grew older, but no, he's got a girlfriend.

"But things aren't really serious between the girl and I." Pete said as If to console me. "We just wanna see how it goes, you know?"

As he said those words, my feelings for him started to fade, little by little, but not completely off.

He went on "You know, as werewolves, we're fated to be mated to someone who may or may not be our girlfriend."

"Werewolves?" I wondered aloud with furrowed brows show my confusion. "You are mated to someone?" I was really puzzled.

Pete and Barry stared at me as if I had asked why the sky is always above and not below. Pete opened his mouth to explain, but before he could, my grandmother walked in, a wide grin on her face.

"Nana, what are werewolves?" I threw the question at her as soon as she walked in. It was like I'd attacked her with the question.

Nana looked surprised by my question for a moment before sighing "Your mom may be human, but she still should've told you about werewolves." she said, then she looked at the two guys and blinked before explaining, "Remember those half-wolf, half-human creatures I told you about?"

I nodded, recalling the fantasy stories she always shared with me.

"Well, they're real, and they're called werewolves" Nana sighed softly "I am a werewolf" She confessed and I had to hold the sides of the chair I was sitting on to keep my head sane and my body steady.

My grandmother is a freaking werewolf!!

"You have a werewolf blood in you, Pixie" My nana said gently, watching my reaction.

"I have a...." I trailed off, my jaw dropping. I have werewolf blood?

I blinked once. Twice. Then I breathed in and out to calm myself.

I have a werewolf blood!

Then my nana glanced at Barry and Pete. "Barry and Pete are werewolves."

"What?!" I exclaimed, my eyes widening as I almost fainted on the spot. Pete nodded with a smile, while Barry had a casual expression on his face.

"In fact, one of them is the future Alpha" she added.

"Future Alpha?" I asked, feeling confused.

"More like the future leader" Nana clarified. "That's why I hope you guys are getting along well?"

I glanced at Barry. We definitely weren't getting along, he's got a bad personality, and then I looked at Pete; he had just broken my soft heart. That's not really getting along any longer, is it?

"Pixie is a wonderful, beautiful lady with great intelligence" Pete complimented me with his infectious smile. It made me smile back, and that's how I fell for him again, regardless of whether he had a girlfriend or not.

[Back to the present]

Standing in my grandma's house, surrounded by familiar faces of guests visiting and leaving, I can't help but wonder where Barry is. He's been avoiding me on purpose for years, and honestly, I can say it's for the best. I sighed. Deep down, a part of me is not happy about that. About him avoiding me.

I take a deep breath. Seriously, I think I'm going crazy, crazier than I was.

"Pixie baby!!" My nana calls from outside.

I drop a plate in the sink and rush outside. "Yes, nana!" I answer, still running towards her voice.

"You won't believe who's here after all these years!" My nana says with excitement, holding onto someone's broad shoulders. There's this familiar scent, like cinnamon air freshener, coming from where my nana is standing with this mystery person. I squint my eyes and see that it's....Barry?

I blinked repeatedly, then I saw that it wasn't Barry when I got a ear view of the beautiful blue eyes. It was Pete. My childhood crush.

Pete is all grown up now, with a fit physique and large chest. The tight white shirt he's wearing isn't helping matters, matching with his captivating blue eyes that drew me to him in the past and still draws me in.

Pete quickly checks me out from head to toe, and then he smiles. That smile has made plenty of girls weak in the knees, including me. I miss that smile, and more importantly, I miss him so much.

"Pete?" I call out with a smile and a light voice.

"No, you saw Pete last holiday" My nana says her eyes smiling but her lips in a playful frown. "So I was not exactly talking about Pete" She gently pushes someone forward from behind her. Lo and behold, it's the bad boy I never ran away from as a kid, and that bad boy is none other than.....Barry.

I blinked slowly. I don't wanna believe he's here even though I was just thinking about him in the kitchen.

"I was talking about Barry" my nana said, and the cinnamon scent hit me intensely.

Barry? For real? Is he here for real? I blinked again to confirm if its not my imagination.

Of course he is the only one with that familiar cinnamon scent right from time. Why would I even think the scent came from Pete in the first place?

My lips divided in surprise, and my eyes locked with Barry's green ones, making my heart pound in my chest for some stupid reasons.

For the past few years, Barry has not visited for the Christmas holiday. I wonder what suddenly changed his mind this year. He gave me a once-over, and I also did the same with him. He's grown and changed, at least just physically, and if there are behavioural changes, that means he got a whole lot worse, like, really really bad, than he was before.

I noticed the black tattoo peeking out from beneath the rolled-up, fitted black shirt he wore.

Black shirt.

Fucking Black shirt. The idiot still dresses like a devil, but he still pulls off that male sexiness from his devilishness, annoying me.

"Hello, P." He greeted with a smirk. His words came out slow and his voice came out deep, deeper than I thought it would be, and you see, that gave me a bad feeling.

Oh, goddess. Goddess help me, please! Barry is here for real. He is here to mess up my life again.
