Chapter 31: Chapter 31 : Escape!

In the entirety of the institute, the fifth floor served as the detention area, accessible solely through either the elevator or the stairway.

However, uncertainty loomed as to whether the elevator malfunctioned due to Scott's mishap or other undisclosed reasons, leaving only the stairway as a viable option.

Upon reaching the fourth-floor entrance to the stairwell, a daunting sight met their eyes—a group of over a dozen armed men, brandishing submachine guns, stationed themselves at the far end of the corridor.

Their directive was clear: protect the passage leading to the fifth floor, which had been breached by a Mutant, and neutralize any incoming threats.

In the tense silence, a sudden gust of wind heralded the arrival of a black-haired youth at the stairwell entrance.

Reacting instinctively, the armed men unleashed a barrage of gunfire.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Fiery streaks erupted from the muzzles as bullets rained down, creating a storm of metal that filled the corridor.

Even Wolverine, known for his resilience, found himself transformed into a pincushion within moments, his body ravaged by the relentless assault.

But their adversary was none other than Carl.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

As bullets peppered the vicinity, Carl stood firm, using a steel door as his shield. Sparks flew as bullets ricocheted off the door's surface, leaving behind a trail of pockmarks.

Thankfully, the assailants wielded submachine guns rather than high-caliber weaponry; otherwise, Carl's makeshift barricade would have been breached.

Harnessing his immense leg strength, Carl propelled himself forward with explosive force.

Boom!

The ground quaked as Carl charged like a behemoth, wielding a handful of bullets as if they were mere pebbles. A primal roar reverberated through the corridor as he closed the gap in an instant.

Boom!

The impact of Carl's charge shattered the bones of the two frontline assailants, sending them hurtling through the air like ragdolls.

With a swift motion, Carl swept the steel door across the corridor.

The door, measuring over one meter in width and two meters in length, swept aside with unstoppable force, sending the surrounding armed men hurtling into the walls like sacks of meat.

Witnessing such inhuman strength and the gruesome aftermath, the remaining assailants paled, their resolve faltering as they turned to flee.

Such adversaries, they hardly qualify as foes.

"NO!"

"Dodge."

In the corridor, the remaining individuals retreated frantically, inadvertently knocking open the adjacent door.

Bang bang bang!

The steel iron door seemed like percussion in Carl's hands, his figure ghosting through the corridor, each appearance followed by an armed person colliding with the wall.

In a moment, countless streams of blood sprayed from the walls, transforming the passage into a corridor of hell.

Witnessing this sight, the armed personnel who had rushed into the room to escape the onslaught were struck with extreme terror. They raised their guns, screaming madly at Carl's retreating figure.

"Fiend, you're a fiend, damned to hell!"

Bang bang bang!

Amidst the frenzied gunfire, a dozen bullets were discharged in an instant, ruthlessly piercing through Carl's... afterimage.

Boom!

His powerful foot landed on one of the armed personnel, the chest caving in instantly, the individual hurtling like a cannonball into the wall, before sliding down like a sack of mud, blood spewing forth, life extinguished.

In less than three seconds, all opposition was vanquished, leaving the corridor eerily silent.

By the time Wolverine ushered the Mutant children forward and beheld the lifeless bodies strewn across the floor, Carl had already reached the entrance to the third floor.

Boom!

At the third-floor entrance, before the two armed guards could react, they fell to Carl's swift and swirling onslaught.

This sight left more than a dozen researchers, clad in white garments and frantically gathering data, visibly shaken. They were preparing to evacuate.

The third floor housed the primary laboratory of the research institute, each room separated by glass walls and equipped with machinery and apparatuses unknown to Carl.

"NO, you cannot kill us, we are merely civilians."

In the chamber, a middle-aged white man raised trembling hands, attempting to plead with Carl, hoping to be spared under the pretext of their civilian status.

"Yes, we are helpless. They force us at gunpoint. Refusal means death."

"Please, spare me."

"I am a distinguished biology professor at Cambridge. Our demise would be a loss to humanity."

"Indeed, I hold the position of genetics professor at Harvard. You cannot end my life..."

Facing Carl's overwhelming murderous aura, the researchers paled with fear, desperately trying to find excuses to appease him.

Unfortunately, Carl remained unfazed, his voice indifferent as he stated, "Whether society suffers losses from killing you is not my concern."

"If you have grievances, take them up with the Mutants who tragically lost their lives at your hands."

As Carl moved forward to rescue those in need, he found most rooms empty upon opening, yet traces indicated they had been inhabited.

It was evident where those Mutants had gone—tortured to death by this group.

Since arriving in this world, Carl's identity as a Mutant dictated his allegiance.

He harbored no illusions about his position.

Even without a deep connection to this world, he understood that harboring animosity towards and persecuting Mutants would only make him a target.

And so...

Boom!
