Chapter 30: Kill a Slave

On the way to the lab, Gris kept memorizing the Route of Death spell by heart. If he mispronounced it, he would fail to use the skill.

He recalled that as the skill rank increased, the spell became shorter and easier to recite. The original Griswalden reached the highest rank and only needed to recite the "Requiem Mortality" short spell.

At the highest rank, he did not need to make eye contact as a trigger. If he had met the targets' eyes before, he only needed to stare at them without eye contact when using the skill.

'Still, the skill doesn't work on blind people because the main requirement is eye contact.'

Gris thought about Route of Death's weakness. No matter how powerful the skill was, it did not impact blind people.

In the story, Griswalden Silverth appeared in the middle and debuted as a feared villain. His Route of Death forced several heroes to blind themselves in fear of his power.

"We're here," Blayz said, preventing Gris from thinking of other counters to the Route of Death.

The lab door swung open. It was still the same as when Gris visited it yesterday. The change was that he could not smell the special herbs anymore, and now, in the empty corner, a girl was sitting scared with her legs cuffed.

The girl shuddered in surprise at Gris and Blayz's arrival. Her clothes were dirty, her skin lacked its usual glow, her hair was messy, and an unpleasant odor came from her body.

With hollow, sorrowful eyes, she gazed at Gris, whom she was encountering for the first time. She met Blayz just last night after she had been bought from an illegal auction on the black market.

"H-Help me..."

Her weak voice could barely be heard. She crawled towards Gris, exposing her bones that stood out under her thin skin.

It was obvious that her body did not have sufficient fat reserves. Her previous owner seemed to think restricting food was not enough and decided to torture her, evident from the bruises on her face and body.

"Oh, dear, how old are you?" Gris crouched in front of the girl, his eyes filled with sympathy.

In a voice weaker than before, the girl replied, "I-I don't remember."

"It's alright. I will help you."

"Really?"

The girl carved a smile with her chapped lips. Dehydration affected her brain function and nervous system, so she became confused and unable to think clearly.

She stared at Gris, trying to move her hand to touch him. "A-Are you real? I've been a little confused lately and seeing unreal things, haha."

Gris grasped the girl's hand and raised it to touch his face. "Feel it. I am real. I can free you from this suffering," he whispered.

"Is that true? I-I often dream of my mo-mother. She... she must be very sad that the doomsday wave separated us..."

"Could you tell me your name and where you're from? That would be very helpful."

"... I'm from a faraway place. I think?"

As the girl began to babble, Gris had already completed reciting the spell silently in his heart. He had started the incantation the moment his eyes locked with hers.

Gris was quite disappointed with the choice of routes offered. Strangling and Infernoclaw Scorpion? He already had them in mind when he intended to kill the girl.

But he realized the Route of Death provided those routes after adjusting to his capabilities. Like it or not, he had to admit his body was still weak, and his skill rank was low.

The real Griswalden appeared when he had become strong. The routes he got were overpowering. They even gave him a complete tutorial, such as where to move and how many steps he needed to take when fighting with a target.

"...I miss my mother's boiled potatoes that I hate. Ah, how delicious it was..."

The girl's voice brought Gris back to reality. Although their eyes met, he sensed her vacant stare as if she were lost in the memory of a simple boiled potato.

"You won't miss those boiled potatoes anymore," Gris whispered before firmly pressing his hands against the girl's neck.

The lack of oxygen triggered the girl's instinct to fight back, attempting to free herself from Gris' grip. However, her feeble body failed her.

Fear widened her eyes as she gasped for breath, struggling in vain as the air supply was cut off. After those futile attempts, her body slumped limply, and her hands slowly released their grip on Gris'.

Her voice faded, leaving only a final whisper calling out to her mother before everything fell silent.

[You execute the target using the Route of Death. Soul quality is increased tenfold as your body is filled with Lord Veilrath's power during skill use!]

[You gain +50 Dark Energy

Gris stood up and stepped back, reading the notification to himself, ensuring the girl's body did not experience *sphincter relaxation.

However, moments after her death, a little urine escaped from her bladder.

"I already killed her. Should I summon her now?" Gris's voice was laced with an unsettling calmness as he peered at Blayz, who remained silent.

* Sphincter relaxation in death refers to the involuntary relaxation of the muscles controlling the sphincters in the body after death. This relaxation can lead to the release of bodily fluids and waste, such as urine and feces.

I'm not sure about sphincter relaxation happening immediately after death. I've never strangled anyone to death, lol. But I looked it up on the internet and it can happen within minutes for some cases.

Correct me if I'm wrong (。ŏ﹏ŏ)
