Chapter 3: A brief explanation behind toothfairies.

At any given time, there are approximately 11.3 million active Tooth Fairies in the entire world. They drive across the windy deserts of Iran on custom-made Dune Buggies. They descend down the monster sky-rises of Hong Kong pretending to be window-washers. They sneak into the cosy fire-lit apartments of Finland and Germany. Some countries such as France, Italy and Mexico exclusively hire magical talking species of mice. Other countries insist on only employing pixies. Australia, on the other hand, was short on staff and would hire anyone who had passed the five-year training course.

Henrietta glanced at her fellow classmates as she walked up to The University of Occult Dentistry's front entrance. To anyone else the building looked a half abandoned sky scraper. For years no one every questioned the fact it was constantly under construction.

To toothfairies however the building was a grand gothic castle. Stain glass windows depicting different sorts of teeth glared at Henrietta. There were five creatures waiting outside the gates. There was Tithi Thenagi, a beautiful woman with the lower body of a glistening snake. Katya a ukrainian witch and direct descendent of Baba Yaga.Phillip the Bunyip, who was barely able to squeeze his massive hairy form into the regulation leotard. Finally there was Henrietta's cousin Daithi, son of her Aunt Grian. Daithi's actual body hadn't bothered to show up. Instead one of his hand made drones, built in the shape of a sleek hummingbird fluttered above Phillip.

"I'm pretty sure using a drone to stalk some one illegal" Henrietta said, folding her arms across her expansive chest and the drone buzzed towards her hovering an inch away from her hair.

"I refuse to leave my home unless we happen to be in the middle of an actual apocalypse! The stink of humans is unbearable," the drone chirped in a high pitched voice.

"If you hate humans so much then why are you training to be a Tooth Fairy?" Katya

asked, and the drone zoomed towards Katya's gigantic nose.

"Why are you training to be a toothfairy? I thought your kind turned children into

soup." the drone chirped.

Katya, with her well worn wrinkled face and masses of electric white frizzy hair did

tend to remind stupid people of the sort of witch that lived in a house made out of sweets.

"My kind? We've never actually eaten children! That was a myth created by

misogynists!" Katya snapped back.

"And you probably pocket the teeth you collect and use them in black magic" Daithi's drone chirped again.

Henrietta's eyes flickered towards Katya whose mouth was wide with horrified astonishment revealing a row of tarnished silver teeth.

"Did this little robot man just called me a thief?" Katya asked glaring at Henrietta.

Despite the fact Katya looked like a wizened crone that lived in a moss covered tree with giant chicken feet she had the mind of a fifteen year old girl.

It was Katya who secretly ruled the social scene of the academy.

"Nobody wants to listen to your ignorant and bigoted nonsense Daithi, What are you even doing here? Did mother pay you to spy on me again?" Henrietta asked.

"Of course she did!" laughed Daithi's drone. "I wouldn't do it for free, you're not that

interesting."

Henrietta hadn't seen her mother in over a century.

Still she always always around…

White butterflies would sometimes appear in locked rooms, the moon would quiver and when she was feeling very curious she called Daithi.

A cold, furious calm caused Henrietta's lips to purse together.

The drones red light blinked back at her and something angry, something beautiful rose from Henrietta's diaphragm.

"Keep the home fires burning," Henrietta sang in a clear deep baritone and the

drone burst into flames.

"While your hearts are...-" Henrietta continued to sing, only to be interrupted by the

sound of someone clapping.

The drone dropped to the pavement still smoking.
