Chapter 27: The Lost Captains

The Visoreds consisted of eight Soul Reapers: four lieutenants and four captains.

Shinji Hirako, former captain of squad five. He has warm brown eyes and jaw-length blonde hair styled in a blunt cut. He often smiles in a way that reveals his upper teeth. Being that he had to accommodate the world of the living, he decided to wear trousers, a shirt, and a tie, sometimes with a newsboy cap and a long coat. He also has a distinctive round tongue piercing.

Shinji brings a touch of humour to even the most serious situations, often speaking in slang for added effect. Underneath his flippant attitude, he enjoys playfully annoying his associates. Despite the comical persona, he is also quite perceptive. During his time as a captain, he was one of the few who harbored suspicions about his then-lieutenant Aizen, even seeing through some of his schemes.

Shinji demonstrates a similar knack for reading people, quickly pinpointing aspects of their personalities. Even Aizen admitted to feeling a degree of intimidation from him. However, Shinji sheds his playfulness in combat, maintaining a calm, serious, and level-headed demeanor.

After Aizen's defeat in the original story, he returned to his post as a captain in the thirteen court guard squads, honing his Soul Reaper powers and Hollow powers.

His Zanpakutō, Sakanade, creates a pink mist. Those who smell it fall subject to an optical illusion called the "Upside Down World" that can invert one's sense of direction, eyesight, and more. No matter how powerful the opponent is, especially if one is accustomed to fighting, their body will not be able to adapt due to their reflexes preventing proper reaction.

His Bankai, Sakashima Yokoshima Happōfusagari, applies the same principles but in a wider area, affecting enemies and allies alike. As a result, everyone except Shinji mistakes allies for enemies for the duration of the Bankai.

Next was Love Aikawa, the former captain of squad seven. He has a thick black spiked afro, which adds further to his above-average height, sporting a green jogging suit while wearing mirrored sunglasses.

Being a very laid-back character, he enjoys reading Shōnen Jump magazines. He would often spoil the story by quoting lines in a dramatic fashion, almost as if he were an actor rehearsing movie lines.

As with most Visoreds, his attitude switches from serious to carefree within a moment's notice. During his time as a captain, Love believed in respect and maintaining peace, being quick to uphold those standards when no one else would. This comparatively friendly attitude reflects his more brutal and merciless fighting style.

His Zanpakutō, Tengumaru, transforms into a large black kanabō that's more than twice his height. It is covered with bladed protrusions in a way resembling a cactus, and the handle itself is over five feet tall. No notable abilities are recorded in his character apart from being able to hurl huge fireballs from his weapon's tip.

Then there was Rose Ōtoribashi, the former captain of squad three.

He has purple eyes, long, wavy blond hair, and a perpetually bored expression. He also wears a black suit with a thigh-length and a black jacket over his white frilled shirt and frilled cuffs.

What distinguishes him among his peers is his talent for playing the guitar. He has a strong interest in music and often discusses whatever singles have recently come out. He also enjoys reading manga, a pastime shared with some of the other Visoreds, but becomes irritated if anyone spoils it for him.

Despite the disinterested behaviour he exhibits, he genuinely cares for his teammates, referring to them as a "growing family". Much like Shinji, he also returned to his post as a captain after Aizen's defeat, honing both Hollow powers and his Soul Reaper powers.

His Zanpakutō, known as Kinshara, is a golden whip with a flower at the end of it. When it's in use, it makes the sound of a strummed guitar string. The sound itself travels up the length of the whip to the flower tip and creates a vortex of reverberating sound that acts as a shockwave, destroying everything within a considerable area of the blast.

His Bankai, Kinshara Butōdan, allows him to channel music to create physical illusions. This power gives him control over his target's heart, being so potent that it can inflict physical damage and even alter the surroundings. Like a conductor with a baton, he orchestrates the devastating effects of these illusions through various "dances" performed by spectral figures, shaping the nature of the attack.

Lastly was the fourth and final captain, Kensei Muguruma. He was the former captain of squad nine. And out of all the captain-level Visoreds, he rivals Shinji in terms of popularity. This is mainly due to his short, white hair and his muscular physique.

In addition to his build, he wears a dark purple A-shirt with a white trim, green cargo pants, black combat boots, and a pair of orange fingerless gloves. He also has a series of piercings, with one on his left eyebrow and three on his left ear.

Kensei is a serious and decisive individual, though he becomes easily annoyed and is rather temperamental. What annoys him the most is childishness, only calming down if those acts are jokes. He is most frequently irritated by his lieutenant, Mashiro, noting that she has the uncanny ability to aggravate him even when she is asleep.

Despite this, Kensei is at times a caring individual. Though his attempts at being kind are offset by his aggression, such as when he once tried to cheer up a young girl in a manner reminiscent of that of a military drill sergeant.

His Zanpakutō, Tachikaze, can manipulate the wind, allowing him to release blades of wind that are able to cut his targets from a distance. These attacks are powerful enough to explode on contact and cause devastation.

As for his Bankai, Tekken Tachikaze, it transforms from a single combat knife into a pair of large knuckle blades that extend like armour over his shoulders. This grants him immense punching power that's able to assault his opponent endlessly as long as his fist remains in contact with his opponent.

Though there is no designated leader among the Visoreds, Shinji has proven to be the forerunner in many of their actions. He was, in fact, the first of the Visoreds to make himself known to Ichigo, asking the latter to join their ranks.

And that's just what Silas was planning to do: join their ranks.
