Chapter 4: Unfamiliar Place

Remembering her life with her Aunt Molly and her cousin, Crystal, she realized how much time she wasted staying with them.

If only she had a choice to live somewhere else back then, she would rather go anywhere than to her Aunt Molly's house.

Now she decided to live by herself from now on. She took a deep breath before calling her aunt.

"Where the hell are you?"

Her aunt sounded so pissed. She was always like that with her. Shouting, yelling and screaming out of her lungs. She never understood the reason for her aunt's attitude toward her.

"Starting today, I won't be living with you anymore." She started.

"What did you just say? Are you trying to piss me off?"

"I said I won't be living with you anymore. Don't worry you can keep my allowance money and you don't have to tell Mr.Grayson that I am no longer in your care. I promise I won't say a thing either." She said.

She felt her aunt's rage from the other line as she heard some glass breaking. She didn't want to hear any of Molly's outbursts so she hung up the phone.

It was a relief. She always wanted to be free from her Aunt Molly, but she hoped that a day would come that she would be treated like a family and not some burden to take care of.

"Now, where do I start? Let's see."

She took her bank passbook to see how much money she had.

"Eighty thousand. Not bad. I just have to find a new job and a place to stay. Oh, and I'll buy myself some clothes. Cheap ones, of course." She laughed.

She let out a deep sigh. "You can do this, Mia."

Those words were the words she often heard from her mother. They were also struggling when she was young.

She was only five when her mom was diagnosed with cancer. With no support from her scumbag father, her mom had to work to support her and the medications.

"We can do this, Mia. We don't need anyone or anything as long as we're together."

Her tears suddenly fell from her deep black eyes. How she really wished that her mom would come back one day, but she knew she wouldn't be.

The first thing she did was to look for a job. She had to make sure that she got money to pay for rent before looking for a small apartment and it had to be near her workplace so she wouldn't need to spend extra for her fare.

She tried to apply in a convenience store, and a fashion store but there was no vacancy. She went to supermarkets and even a small pet shop, but she was rejected.

As she walked further down the streets of Sommerville, she came into a place where she didn't expect.

"The Redford District." She whispered.

It was her first time in that area. She only heard about it from her gay classmate. It was a place where pleasure and business collide. There were brothels, strip clubs and other sex businesses in every corner.

"Hey miss, you're pretty. How much is it?" A fat bellied man approached her.

Her heart pounded as if her chest would explode. She was unfamiliar with the place moreover with the people surrounding the area.

She couldn't utter a single word so she walked quickly away from the man. There were women outside some clubs approaching whoever walked in front of them.

"Girl, you lookin' for work?" A woman who looked like in her early thirties smiled at her.

She had a rusty colored hair and her face seemed she already had a lot of plastic surgeries.

She hesitated at first, but she needed to get a job badly. "Y–Yes."

The woman stared at her face, then strolled her eyes from head to toe.

"You're pretty. And look decent. Do you know what kind of place this is?"

She nodded. "I–I was just walking to look for work and accidentally came here."

The woman shrugged her shoulders.

"Okay. Come with me."

They walked toward a huge building in the center of the Redford District. It had a huge red sign that said Club Montefalco. If she remembered correctly, it was the number one club in that area.

When they went inside, she was already expecting to see indecent and different kind of sexual acts. But to her surprise, it was quiet inside. It was too quiet to be exact and it was deafening, making it more suspicious. Or maybe because they entered through the backdoor so she didn't see anything.

She was brought inside a room that looked like an office.

"Name?" The woman asked when she sat on the swivel chair in front of a big office table.

"Amelia Lane."

"Age?"

"Twenty two."

"Are you a college student?"

She nodded. "Well, I was. I got expelled just this morning." She chuckled.

"Parents?"

"My mom is dead."

"How about your father?"

She frowned. "Is this necessary?"

The woman laughed. "Why? Do you think anyone could just work here? We ask because we don't want any trouble from your family."

She sighed. "Alive. But I met him once when I was seven. For me, he's dead."

The woman saw anger in her so she didn't ask any further about her father.

"Siblings? Relatives?"

"I have an aunt and a cousin. I lived with them until this morning. I called and told her I won't be coming back to her house anymore."

The woman nodded. "So you don't have a place to stay?"

"Yes. I have to find a job first before renting a place."

"You said you know what kind of place this is. So you have an idea what work we can give you, right?"

She nodded again. "B–But is there a way that I can work here without selling my body. I've never had a boyfriend."

The woman didn't seem surprised, but her eyes glittered knowing that her suspicion was confirmed.

"In this place, saying that you are a virgin is dangerous. So don't tell anyone that you have no experience." The woman paused and then sighed.

"Fine. I will give you a job as a waitress. For now. But I want you to know that I am just reserving you."
