Chapter 1: Chapter 1: A Second Chance

"Buzzzzz"

Kaiser's eyes jolted open at the familiar sound of a mosquito dancing around his ear, causing him to sit up sharply with bated breath.

He quickly surveyed his environment, eyes scanning the grey walls and brown wardrobe in the corner of the room, his nose picking up the familiar smell of sewage which reminded him of his room from when he was a teenager.

His ears could immediately pick up the sounds of cars flying past on the highway close to his mothers apartment and the familiar sight of cracked ceiling panels hanging above his head.

The posters on the wall of his favorite team, Chelsea, plastered clearly on the wall along with his some of his favorite footballers. Vinicius junior, David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, among others.

"It must be a dream" he said to himself as he refused to believe the sight playing in front of him. His body was moist with sweat from the heat permeating around.

He could already could tell it was the dry season and there was no power, meaning temperatures were skyrocketing with no means to keep himself cool.

He decided to stand up and pinch himself, believing he would wake up from this vivid dream.

He squeezed his skin between his fingernails as tight as he could and bit his lip in order not to scream.

"Owwwwwww'' he hissed as he pressed his palm on the spot that was now turning red.

'What the hell? So I'm….. not asleep?' Kaiser asked within himself.

"Osho! Wake up, it's time for you to go to school!" A female voice called from another room in the apartment.

His heart stopped and he felt nervous all of a sudden. It was a voice that he hadn't heard in 15 years. Whether this was a dream of not it was definitely playing with his emotions.

"Osho? What's wrong with you? You're not going to school anymore? Hurry up and get ready for so I can drop you off!" The person said as she walked into his room, directly looking at him before letting herself out.

It was his mother. His lovely mother, who had passed away from a heart attack after finding out her beloved son, had been involved in a murder and sentenced to prison in her past life.

She was in a relationship with his father, a German man named Felix. His mother had him before his father fled the country without giving an explanation why.

He was a contractor for a project that was taking place in the Nigerian branch of his company. She got pregnant and he promised her they would get married but one day he disappeared without a trace. Going on to avoid answering her calls or texts for months.

His mother would then discover that he had a family back in Germany and he only intended their relationship to last for the duration of his stay in Nigeria.

Hence his German name Sohn Des Kaiser, which meant "Son Of The Emperor". After his father left however, his mother gave him the name Oshomanoya meaning "he who never fails."

Combining the two, his names meant "The son of the undefeatable emperor." A name he was never able to live up to as he died in a silly fight.

Rather than a life befitting the name given to him, he lived a deplorable and unaccomplished life. He spent his latter days being a womanizer due to his mixed ethnicity that made the Nigerian women go crazy and alcoholic lifestyle.

He didn't finish secondary school as he had gained some traction in his football career at a young age and had been signed to Nigerian Premier League side Enyimba United.

However he suffered a torn ACL injury, and the costs of treatment didn't seem worth it for an unproven player and his team abandoned him.

This caused him to spiral into depression for years and in the process of looking for other means of income since he didn't graduate secondary school he eventually got into crime.

Armed robbery specifically, where a member of his gang killed one of their targets despite his protests. They got caught and he was sentenced to ten years in prison.

His mothers fragile heart couldn't handle the thought and she had a heart attack. Passing away as a result.

Looking at her his heart ached, she looked much younger and full of life unlike when he had previously remembered her. With shaky breath and watery eyes he went into the kitchen after her and stared at her for a few seconds before speaking.

It had been 15 years since he had last seen her. So many times he wished he could call out to her and apologize for all the pain he had put her through. Even if this wasn't real, even if it was just a dream… he wanted to be able to hug her one last time.

"Mom.. is that really you?" He asked, somewhat unsure and feeling that he would wake up at any moment. Tears welling up in his eyes.

His mother dropped the spoon she was using to stir the soup she was preparing and looked at Kaiser with a concerned look.

She walked closer to him before wiping the tears from his eyes and putting her hand on the curve of his neck. "Why are you crying my dear? Are you feeling okay or is it the heat? You've been acting strange since you woke up." She said to him.

Kaiser instinctively hugged his mother. He had missed her so much in his past life, wishing he had lived better so she could have spent more time with him.

He held her tightly, tears slowly rolling down his cheeks. His mother was dumbfounded. "What's wrong Osho? Are you sick?" She asked as she placed her palm on his forehead.

"No, I'm fine, I just really missed you is all." He said, eventually letting her go from his hug which he wished lasted longer.

"Osho" which was the nickname she had given him since his father left them in order to try not to think about him too much.

"Mom I don't think I'm well enough to go to school today, can I stay home instead?" He asked his mother, wanting to spend as much time with her as he possibly could.

"No problem my dear, you've been acting strange since earlier this morning. I think the heat might be affecting you too much. Just take a cold shower and rest for today." She said with a loving smile.

He nodded and made his way to his room, pinching himself again, but way less aggressively than before and somehow he was still there.

While thinking to himself he got undressed and entered the bathroom, which was still exactly how he remembered it.

in the bathroom he kept thinking and wondering to himself. "How is any of this even possible? Did I actually go back in time?"

He thought back to the last memory he had before waking up in his teenage body. He had gotten into a fight at a bar where he was watching a match drunk.

Chelsea had just won the champions league by beating Real Madrid in the final and he was celebrating excessively in front of the Real Madrid fans when he got into a brawl with one of them.

The Madrid fan who was also most likely drunk, broke his glass bottle and stabbed him in his stomach. This caused him to bleed out and in his last moments he genuinely wished he could have gotten a second chance to live his life the right way.

"Just how is this possible?" He asked himself for the umpteenth time.

Suddenly, the silence was broken by an automated, seemingly robotic voice.

[Hello host, this is possible as a result of the Ultimate Athlete System]

A voice said out of seemingly nowhere.

"What the hell!?!!" Kaiser said, obviously surprised.

"Who said that?!" He asked again.

[It was I, the Ultimate Athlete Algorithm]
