The hierarchy of the Dark Brotherhood sees everyone having their role to play in the Family.
The roles therein are as follows:
Sithis: -Embodiment of the Void and Final Death. Gives orders to the Night Mother that steer the fate of the Dark Brotherhood.
Night Mother: -Instructs the Listener on all contracts heard through the Black Sacrament and Sithis Himself.
Listener: -Highest honor within the Dark Brotherhood. Relays contracts the Night Mother has heard to the Speakers.
Keeper: -Rarest honor within the Dark Brotherhood. Maintains the corpse of the Night Mother in order to preserve the conduit from which the Brotherhood receives their guidance.
Speaker: -Governing body of the Dark Brotherhood. Takes contracts from the Listener to the Sanctuary in which they operate from a hidden refuge.
Silencer: -Highest ranked contract killer; extended secretive rank of the Black Hand. Serves their Speaker as a hand-selected personal assassin; operates outside the formal law established by the Black Hand and performs the ancient rite of Purification.
Chronicler: -Historian of the Dark Brotherhood. Pens the major turning points of the existence of the Brotherhood.
Courier: -Messenger of the Dark Brotherhood. Unknown as to their role in transporting contracts, but largely not to be confused with the Speaker's personal carrying of contracts to their Sanctuaries; carries missives of communication between operating centres of the Brotherhood. Likely doesn't handle contracts as to remain ignorant to questioning.
Leader: -Mistress/Master of each individual Sanctuary- second only to the Speaker who hand picked them. Gives contracts to the Executioner and Assassin ranked field operators, paying bonuses for completed optional objectives specified by either the client or the Black Hand.
Executioner: -Very highly ranked contract killer. Eligible to begin giving contracts to Eliminators, Slayers, and Murderers instead of taking them on themselves, paying bonuses for completed optional objectives specified by either the client or the Black Hand. Usually only one Executioner contractor per Sanctuary.
Assassin: -Highly ranked contract killer. Takes on the most detailed and meticulous contracts. Begins eligibility for assignments given directly from the Black Hand, and for selection as Silencer.
Eliminator: -Ranked contract killer. Takes on detailed and meticulous contracts.
Slayer: -Lower ranked contract killer. Takes on the less detailed and meticulous contracts.
Murderer: -Contract killer. Takes on simple and somewhat menial contracts, though some may be given a slightly tougher assignment to test their skill.
