Chapter 10: Hammer Fruit
Lillian and I rushed to the scene, hiding behind the bushes near the coastline. Only the captain was on the shore, and his men were busy on the ship. It seemed like he wanted to attack on his own. There really wasn't a need for his men to help him either.
"What do we do," Lillian asked."
"We need to wait a little. Until he's alone. We can't have his vice-captain supporting him if we want to win," I explained. "Then, I'll launch a massive sneak attack. You don't have to enter battle unless absolutely necessary."
"Mhm. I don't think I can fight on your side yet, but I'll do my best!"
I smiled at her response. "That's all I ask."
We watched as he approached the village, laughing as he trodded on the dirt path. We followed him stealthily, keeping a far enough distance that we had to rely on Lillian's observation haki to locate him. If he were to discover us, our sneak attack would be rendered useless, and we wouldn't have the enormous advantage anymore. We waited. And waited. Until the perfect opportunity arrived.
"This village isn't too bad," he said. "I'll take the money and leave. That's all that needs to be done."
"Eden, now?"
"Yup. Watch me."
I conjured my abilities to my palms, waving in a circular motion as a hole appeared in the fabric of space. "Wormholes," I muttered. I could bend the space in the fourth dimension, creating a portal to another location that I could travel through. The other side of the wormhole was directly above the pirate. And so, I charged up a ball of energy, coating it around my fist, and prepared for a large attack. So much energy was poured into that punch that it could be heard far away. An attack like this could never work as a sucker punch without a wormhole like this.
The air around me was distorted, the sound of rumbling waves echoing throughout the foliage as I hopped through the wormhole.
Void Impact!
Immediately, he looked up toward me as I zoomed through the air, throwing my punch with every ounce of strength I had. I barely had enough time to react, lifting his arms above his head while coating them in his armament haki and something else that I couldn't quite see. "Guh!!"
His legs sunk into the ground as I smashed him into it, throwing his body off to the side as a large explosion occurred.
"D-damn, that hurts... What the hell? Where did you come from?" he muttered through his teeth.
"I dunno? Nowhere?"
He got back to his feet, wiping the blood from his lips. "So, you're a devil fruit user, huh? That was some fancy trick you used there. Didn't expect anything like that to happen."
"You don't seem as hurt as I had hoped. How'd you tank that?"
"Why would I tell you? How about I show it to you instead," he shouted as he dashed forward, shaping his hand into that of a massive hammer.
"What the hell??" I thought.
He swung it at me, sending shockwaves across the coastline as I dodged, his arm hitting the ground beside me. "That was a lot of power," I muttered. "And he has haki too. This might be a problem."
I extended both my arms, discharging a sphere of energy and firing it toward him. He coated his arms with his haki again, swinging at the attack like it was nothing. The energy dissipated, only slightly harming him.
"Guh!" he groaned. "What was that?"
"I'm not telling you," I smirked.
"Fine, then."
He jumped forward, closing the distance between us, and hammered his arm down again. I dodged, and as he slammed his fist into the ground, the earth shook, causing me to trip over. He quickly pulled back his fist and attempted to hit me again, but I was able to roll out of the way, floating into the air to gain the high ground. There, I charged up another shot, and I fired it toward his face, attempting to knock him out in one blow. His armament haki was strong enough to defend against it, but the force of the blast knocked him off balance, allowing me to land a direct hit with my next attack.
"Ughh!" he yelled, spitting out blood. "Damn it, what's with your powers? You've got so many tricks up your sleeve."
"Yeah? Then how about this." I began charging up two spheres of energy, one in each palm. "This'll hurt."
"Heh, come at me," he shouted. This time, he transformed both of his arms and his head into a silver hammer coated with a dense armament haki.
"What is with this guy's weird devil fruit? A hammer? Really?"
I threw one of the spheres toward him, and he swung at it. It flew away like a baseball, hitting a tree in the distance and exploding into a cloud of dust. But I used this opportunity to create a wormhole directly underneath him, and I fired the other shot toward his stomach. It was a direct hit, and the force of it launched him high into the air. I immediately followed up with a kick imbued with the air around me condensed into a single spot. As my foot landed, I released the air, sending it to his chest like a shotgun. It blasted him back down, and he smashed into the ground.
But out of the dust clouds, a hammer came crashing down, smashing the earth into pieces as it made its way toward me. I managed to dodge, but it still grazed me, cutting my forearm as it flew by.
"D-damn, that was close," I muttered. The next moment, he appeared behind me, throwing a punch with his hammer fist. I compressed the air again on my palm, using it as a cushion to defend against his attack. The blow was so hard that I was launched off into the distance, but I quickly turned around midair, landing on my feet.
"Your tricks won't work on me anymore," he smirked. "You'll need more power to kill me completely now that I'm fired up."
