Chapter 16: Combined Efforts
"Right!" She exclaimed.
Both of the commoners dashed forward at the dragon, leaving the nobles in a confused state.
"What are those inferior creatures doing?" Ritzu asked, stunned at the fact that these people with lower essence capacity dared put up the courage to face something even he couldn't handle.
"Don't worry boss, they are running to their end. Now we can actually breath well once we are rid of this commoners." One of the noble followers of Ritzu said.
The dragon roared out once again as it raised it's right claws up in the air and with a swift and precise movement, it attempted stomping the two humans that stood up to it.
Rai turned his neck to face Selena instantly, he was unsure if she had the necessary reflexes to evade such basic attacks. Given that the dragon was huge, it's movement were bound to be slow. He grabbed the right hand of Selena and leaped out of the range of the dragons sharp claws.
It's hand connected with the solid ground creating a huge cloud of dust which engulfed the whole area involved. The vibrations flowed through the ground and into the walls of the large cave.
"AHH-" Several of the nobles were knocked off balance during the course of the dragons assault. Rai and Selena landed comfortably on their knees much thanks to the quick reflexes of Rai, she coughed loudly after accidentally breathing in the dust.
"How are we going to stop something so powerful?" She questioned, given their current situation that was the best and only question anyone would think of.
Rai pondered hard on this question, he began recalling the assassination codes taught to all assassins in his clan during his previous life to ascertain if there would be anything relevant to help them. Then it hit him.
"We think outside the box, attack it from a different angle and probe for it's weaknesses. Selena, use your alchemy essence and create a giant golem now." He responded and took charge swiftly remembering the twelfth code of the assassin's. "If you come across an enemy you can't beat head on and can't escape either, probe for his weaknesses and exploit it. That is the true trait of an assassin."
"B-but I've never created something so big before.." She stammered, it was a bit too much to ask for.
"Look at me Selena." Rai said holding the chin of Selena gently.
"You can do this, I know you can. Just remember your training and you'll be fine." He added in an attempt to motivate her.
Selena blushed a bit, she felt motivated and reassured the moment Rai placed his hand on her face. She shaked her head swiftly to snap out of her imaginations and nodded in affirmation.
She took a deep breath as she recalled the words of Rai concerning fear and breaking past ones limit.
SLAM!
She slammed her two hands into the ground and with her eyes blazing with determination, she said.
"Arcane Art: Stone Golem!" A huge magic circle materialized out of thin air in their front and from it emerged a giant gnome wielding a sword all made out of stone. It drained her essence by a margin as transmutating something as large as that took a toll on her essence pool. "I..did it.." She said as she panted heavily, feeling the toll it took on her essence pool and draining her energy.
"I-impossible!" Ritzu exclaimed.
"She uses the alchemy type!? Moreover she's able to transmutate something this large!?" Another noble proclaimed in disbelief, they knew it was a rare sighting to come across a commoner wielding the alchemy type essence. However even if that was to occur there was no way a commoner wielding the alchemy type essence could transmutate something this large.
The dragon heads roared out loudly yet again and began building up another fire blast with their mouths using the power of a million suns. The stone golem wasted no time, it launched it's sword at the necks of the heads which cancelled out their intended attack. It quickly followed up with a right cross at the heads of the dragons followed by a barrage of punches.
It was here Rai made a discovery, he noticed that every time the head in the middle of the two other heads of the dragon got hit, it lost its balance and stumbled. "That's it..." He said.
He pinpointed the weakness of the dragon and immediately deduced a way to defeat it. He stood to his feet as he spinned his katana in his right hand. "I can't use the Raisen yet, however I can still manage to apply it's concept in order to defeat this dragon." He said in his thoughts before dashing swiftly towards the stone golem.
Performing a series of flips, he climbed the body of the stone golem and ultimately got to the top of his skull. With one powerful boost, he propelled himself upwards above both the dragon and the stone golem. Applying the concepts of the Raisen, he directed the flow of electricity from his arm into the katana instead of his palm.
By doing this, he increased the destructive power behind the katana cutting abilities and it's speed. He threw the katana swiftly at the top skull of the head of the dragon in the middle.
The dragon roared out in pain as it slumped to its two front legs trying to regain it's balance, Rai descending swiftly towards the dragon rotated his body before sending his right leg down towards the katana which had penetrated the skull of the dragon. With a swift and precise kick, Rai sent the katana deep into the skull of the dragon slicing through its celebrum and killing it.
Rai landed on his two feet besides Selena as both of them watch the dragon fade away as it had already been destroyed by the combined efforts of the two.
"T-they destroyed it..." One of the nobles stammered.
"It can't be...it can't." Ritzu uttered, he could not believe that two commoners on a level far below him had defeated something that he could not. He grinned his teeth in anger. "I won't allow it.." He added.
Rai smiled as he looked down at Selena, he offered her a hand which she gladly accepted. He gently pulled her up and towards his chest by accident and the two looked each other in the eye.
"Congratulations, you've defeated a dragon." Selena smiled as she said.
"No, we did." Rai replied.
A large blue portal opened up in front of the two of them.
"Huh, I guess that's our cue isn't it?" Selena asked.
"Yeah.." Rai said as both of them began walking towards the portal.
"Not so fast!" A visibly irritated Ritzu exclaimed, his blood was boiling as he was unable to accept the fact that a commoner had overpowered him in terms of strength and strategizing.
