Chapter 31: Chapter 31

Chapter 31: Laghima

The monk in kasaya walked towards the huddle children. Their eyes still closed and waiting for the nightmare to end, each of them hugging each other to provide any sense of security.

"Open your eyes. The nightmare is over." Suddenly they heard a gentle voice coursing through the wind.

It felt so warm that it felt as though a summer breeze passed through them.

Heeding the soft voices' words, the children opened their eyes revealing a young monk somewhere around eighteen or nineteen wearing a red and orange kasaya. His head was shaved bald as a blue arrow etched itself.

"Laghima…?" Kenshi muttered. The monk looked like the fabled air spirit Laghima.

The great wind of the north and the one the great Guru Laghima was named after.

"Though I am flattered, I'm afraid I'm not him. My name is Jiran." The monk smiled and patted the child's head.

"M-my parents? What happened to them?" Kenshi asked. Then every child perked up, they were also desperate to know what happened to their parents.

The monk sported a sad look of regret before saying.

"I'm sorry, young ones. I didn't manage to get here in time. If only I knew much earlier, none of this would've happened." The monk, identified as Jiran, teared up a bit in pity before hugging the children in comfort.

Hearing the worst, they didn't manage their emotions anymore as they all started crying while Jiran stayed to comfort them.

"Now, now, everything's gonna be alright" He comforted them with his warm words. He let the kids vent out their emotion, occasionally comforting them and providing them sense of security.

Sob!

Sob!

Sob!

Uwaaahh!

Hiek! Hiek!

It was such a sad scene. To see such innocent souls bawl their eyes at the lost of their loved ones. Jiran looked at them, though his eyes showed pity; that pity was not directed at the tragedy of those children but the waste of time and lives he had to reap to find these three.

He looked at Kenshi, Kiril, Jorn, and Mera. And smiled, a malevolent and malicious smile.

*******

Before the tragedy.

Jiran walked through the foggy forest in a steady feet. Though the mist and moisture of the deep forest obstructed his vision, his step didn't falter and continued walking in confidence.

He looked as if though he fully knew where he was heading even though this was his first time.

The ground shifted, the air twisted, a semblance of reality slowly distorted for Jiran, he was in the Spirit World/Realm.

Then suddenly as he was walking, Jiran stopped and heaved a slow and steady breath before looking up.

In front of him was a gigantic face; three faces in fact. Having dark and gold body with no sense of symmetry that supported three pairs of hand each pair holding a measuring scale.

"Speak. Malevolent Air Nomad, why have you seek me?" The three faces voiced, their tone converging into one powerful and distorted sound.

Jiran looked at the spirit and was amused. 'Malevolent Air Nomad, it seems that spirits can see right through me'

"I have come to ask questions, Truthdealer" Jiran voiced out.

"A question, hmmmm. I can give you any answer you want but in exchange you must give me a knowledge equally important to the answer I will give." The Truthdealer spoke, then he presented the three scale in front of Jiran and once again voiced.

"Speak! What do you offer?" At the aggressive connotation of the Truthdealer, Jiran bowed a bit and showed a thin smile before saying.

"You may have almost all of the knowledge of the world but there is one thing you don't know —" Jiran said building up suspence, he cut off his words just at the right moment to gaude the Truthdealer.

"What is it, Malevolent Air Nomad!!? Speak!" The Truthdealer was getting impatient.

"—- you do not know the future. For as I, know them fully" Jiran said in a grand reveal.

The Truthdealer roared, his scale turning into blades before standing up fully revealing his tree like trunk of a body with his hands serving as its branches.

"You bluff! How dare you speak lies before me!!" He was about to strike Jiran when suddenly Jiran opened his mouth and blasted a powerful sound wave towards him sending him skidding back and reprieving his offense.

"Do you sense me lie?" After blasting a sonic blast to the spirit, Jiran straightened his posture and asked.

Now that the spirit had a second look, he did indeed saw no lie through his words.

The spirit was just too furious to take that into account because he viewed Jiran's statement as nothing but lie and that Jiran was lying to him; therefore commiting offense against the holder of Truth.

He hold all that is the truth in the present and in the past but the future was not his domain.

"Then ask me your question, and I will give you answers in exchange, show me the future" However the Truthdealer is a reasonable spirit when it comes to deals.

"Give me the names and the location of the most talented benders of earth, water, and fire. And they must be young, gullible and prone to manipulation." Jiran asked his eyes glinting in dark and icy cold. Even the Truthdealer shuddered for a bit before sighing and answering.

"You are truly a malevolent Air Nomad. If I'm to ask, are you gathering them to form a a mighty army?" The spirit asked to which Jiran only smiled indicating his answer.

"Very well then. I'll give you the answer and afterward you give me the future." And then the Truthdealer started reciting names and locations; but only rough location he didn't specified too much.

After giving Jiran appoximately ten names it was the Air Nomad's turn.

Jiran started narrating the event of Avatar all the way to season 3, by the end of it the Truthdealer had his mouth wide agape.

"How do you know this knowledge?"

"You do not ask question, you answer them correct? Maybe when you have a truth equally valuable I'll consider answering that question" Jiran chuckled which left the Truthdealer in disbelief. The roles have just been reversed and yet he felt no malice.

"Well played, Jiran." This time he called Jiran by his name, to show his respect.
