Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Simulation Begins!

[ "Answer." ]

[ "Certainly, host. Considering your current state, I suggest focusing on understanding your new form and environment. Proceed with caution as you explore the area, remaining vigilant for potential threats from other creatures. Take the opportunity to learn more about your slime form's capabilities and movement patterns." ]

[ "Also, before you move forward, I recommend utilizing the power of the system to start a simulation. By doing so, you may unlock valuable insights and potentially earn rewards that are beneficial for your journey ahead." ]

"Got it." Arata acknowledged, nodding as he took in the system's advice."

"Adapting to my new body and exploring the forest carefully is definitely on the top of my list."

"But I'm particularly interested in your last suggestion. How do I go about starting that simulation?"

Suddenly, right after Arata's question, a holographic screen popped up in front of him.

✤ ────⚌+++:-: ۞ :-:+++⚌──── ✤

[ Status ]

Name: Arata

Race: Slime

Grade: F -

Simulation Ticket: 1

[ Ability ]

— Water Blast F -

[ Mission ]

Task 1: Defeat 5 Grade F - Monsters

— Progress: 0/5

— Reward: Access to Inventory, 1 Simulation Ticket

Task 2: Explore the Area

Status: In Progress

Reward: 1 Simulation Ticket

✤ ────⚌+++:-: ۞ :-:+++⚌──── ✤

[ "Host, to begin the simulation, simply use the ticket provided. You can interact with the screen either by using your mind or physically touching it. Each simulation consumes one ticket. Since it's your first time, you'll receive a free simulation ticket. However, for future simulations, you'll need to earn tickets by completing missions." ]

Arata listened closely to the system's instructions before scanning through the information presented on the screen.

"Slime..." he muttered.

Despite knowing he had become a slime, seeing it displayed so plainly still felt surreal.

He then noticed the "Water Blast F-" ability listed.

"Water Blast? Interesting."

Although he wasn't a pro in this field, his experience with gaming back on Earth had given him some knowledge about abilities.

"Guess I'll have to give that a try later."

Arata's gaze focused on the mission details displayed on the holographic screen.

"Defeat 5 Grade F - Monsters."

"So, there are actual monsters here, apart from me."

"And 'defeat' means... I have to, um, take them down, right?"

[ "Answer." ]

[ "Indeed, host. 'Defeat' implies killing or subduing the monsters. Your task is to eliminate them to finish the mission." ]

"Do I have to finish this mission by a certain time?"

[ "No, host, there's no set deadline. But if you don't complete the mission, it will hold back your progress. You won't be able to access the inventory or earn more simulation tickets until you complete it." ]

"Hm... okay. Got the point."

"Regarding the simulation, how long does it last once I start it? Also, I want to be sure about something. Will I be safe from other creatures while I'm in the simulation?"

[ "The duration of the simulation can vary based on your monster avatar's performance within it. However, rest assured, host, you won't be in danger. Despite the simulation potentially feeling lengthy, in the real world, it only takes about a second." ]

"Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification."

"So, even if it seems like an eternity inside, it's merely a blink of an eye in reality. That's good to hear."

[ "Correct, host. Your safety is my priority, and the simulation is designed to ensure that." ]

Arata glanced around, taking in the surroundings, before nodding decisively.

"Alright, let's start this simulation before I proceed on exploring."

Another holographic screen materialized, asking for confirmation and indicating that one simulation ticket would be consumed.

Arata quickly confirmed, feeling a shift in his consciousness as if being transported to another realm.

[ The monster simulation begins. ]

His vision darkened momentarily, and as he reopened his eyes, he found himself standing in a dimly lit space, facing a large screen.

[ A random race of monsters has been generated. ]

Make your selection from the following:

A. Rat

B. Cockroach

Before Arata could mutter something, the system's voice suddenly resounded in the space.

[ "Host, in front of you is the crucial part of creating the monster avatar for the simulation. You must be strategic in your selection, as it will greatly impact your avatar's action. However, I must clarify that I cannot offer any suggestions on what to pick. Providing guidance here goes against the rules of the system." ]

Arata nodded, understanding the system's limitations. He understood that he had to rely on his own judgment for this critical decision.

As he considered his options, Arata weighed the characteristics of rats and cockroaches. Rats, he knew, were known for their intelligence, but their tendency to fall into traps made them unreliable.

On the other hand, cockroaches, although not particularly smart, were incredibly resilient and could survive in harsh conditions. Additionally, their ability to eat almost anything meant that food scarcity wouldn't be a significant issue.

After careful thought, Arata made his decision, confident in his choice.

[ Race confirmed. Selected Race: Cockroach. ]

Now, choose 2 traits for the Cockroach from the following:

A. Lazy

B. Ruthless

C. Gay

D. Pervert

E. Greedy

"A, Lazy. Well, if I choose lazy, will my avatar just lie around all day? Probably not the best choice for survival..."

"B, Ruthless. Now we're talking! That sounds promising. Ruthlessness might mean being more aggressive and effective in combat."

"C, Gay. Uh, wait, what? How is that even a trait for a cockroach? Pass!"

"D, Pervert. Seriously? I don't think I want my cockroach avatar hitting on other creatures in the simulation. Definitely not picking that!"

"E, Greedy. Now, this could be useful. A greedy cockroach might hoard resources like it's Black Friday."

After a moment of consideration, Arata made his choice.

"I'll go with 'B, Ruthless' and 'E, Greedy'."

With his selections confirmed, Arata couldn't help but wonder how these traits would manifest in his cockroach avatar. It was a gamble, as he wasn't entirely sure how the combination of ruthlessness and greed would affect his avatar's behavior in the simulation.

Would it make his cockroach a fierce creature, or would it lead to reckless and self-destructive actions? Only time would tell which path his avatar would take.

[ Traits confirmed. Selected Traits: Ruthless and Greedy. ]

Choose 1 ability for the Cockroach from the following:

A. Toxin Manipulation

— The cockroach can secrete and control various toxins, using them for defense or manipulation. It can paralyze enemies or induce hallucinations.

B. Size Manipulation

— The cockroach can shrink to navigate tight spaces or grow larger for intimidation. When small, it becomes faster, and when larger, it becomes stronger.

C. Minor Regeneration

— The cockroach possesses the ability to rapidly heal minor injuries, such as cuts and bruises. It can also regenerate a lost limb, but this process takes time and leaves the cockroach vulnerable during regeneration.

"A, Toxin Manipulation. That sounds pretty powerful. Being able to control toxins could give my avatar a significant advantage in combat. However, it might also require a high level of control to avoid accidental self-harm or unintended outcomes."

"B, Size Manipulation. Hmm, the ability to change size could be incredibly useful for maneuverability and adaptability in different situations. But it might also come with its own set of challenges, like managing energy consumption or maintaining control over transformations."
