"Okay, spill," Nikolas demanded as soon as they entered Dominique's private study, his eyes locking onto his brother's.

"What's this about?" Dominique asked, looking puzzled. He sank into the plush black sofa, crossing one leg over the other and leaning back, attempting to radiate ease.

"Don't play dumb with me, Dom," Nikolas shot back, his irritation clear. "Last time we were in here, we agreed you'd find a pretend fiancé. So, what was all that earlier? Your display of affection and possessiveness towards Kalina was over the top."

"I had to make it convincing," Dominique replied, avoiding his brother's gaze. He knew his brother was perceptive and was hoping to deflect the conversation. "You know how Dad gets suspicious."

"That's nonsense, Dom. You were never like this with Layla…"

"Don't mention her," Dominique snapped, his jaw clenching and his eyes flashing with anger. His expression was steely, and his posture tense.
