Chapter 2: Sold to the Werewolf King

"What did you say?" Yohana shouted at her younger brother. "You sold me to the Werewolf King! Have you lost your mind, Alvaro?"

"Sorry, Sister. But I have to do this for the safety of our pack," said Alvaro, who was the current Alpha of the Night Silver Pack.

"Did you just say sorry to me?" Yohana's anger escalated. Her eyes gleamed blue because her wolf was angry. "Do you know what it means to sell a woman? You traded your sister for the pack's peace just because you don't trust your own abilities. I was wrong to place you in the position of the alpha after our parents died!"

Two years ago, Yohana and Alvaro's parents died, who were the alpha and luna of the Night Silver Pack. She worked relentlessly day and night to give a new leader to their pack. Because she was wolf-less, she decided to make her younger brother the pack leader as soon as he turned 18.

Yohana built the trust of the elders on Alvaro and secured a position of the alpha for him. But what did her brother do to her? Something which no brother would ever do to his sister.

"You don't deserve to be alpha because you don't respect the women," Yohana declared and stepped up to take away the crown from him when the beta, Collins, stopped her.

"Step back, Miss Yohana. You have to follow the alpha's command," said Collins.

"Alvaro, do you not care for me?" Yohana queried. Tears brimmed in her eyes because of the betrayal from her brother. She always thought Alvaro was as brave as their late father. "Can't you fight for me from the Werewolf King? Does my value mean nothing to you?" She questioned her brother.

Yohana scanned her eyes in the hall, glancing at the elders and the chiefs of their packs. They all seemed to agree with Alvaro's decision.

"Yohana, I want the pack to be safe from Iskander. Everyone knows that once he sets an eye on a territory, he takes it by hook or crook. For him, it doesn't matter how many people die during his conquest. If selling you to him can save the Night Silver Pack, then I shall do it being the alpha of my pack," Alvaro firmly declared while staying firm on his decision.

"So, you don't care if I die in the hands of Iskander? You didn't even flinch before making such a decision. Will you ever meet the gaze of Father and Mother after I leave this place? Will you ever sleep in peace?" Yohana demanded answers from her brother.

"Yohana, you should not blame the alpha for this decision. It is the decision that came from all the elders of our pack as well," said Flora, Alvaro's mate and soon-to-be Luna of their pack.

"King Iskander decided not to take this territory on the condition of having you as a slave for him. What's wrong with that? You have always spoken about choosing the right. What the Alpha chose was the betterment of our pack. If the previous alpha and luna were alive, their decision would be the same," Flora pronounced, defending Alvaro in his decision.

Yohana snickered to hear her. "What if you were sold as a slave to a man, who is known for his cruelty? Will your response be the same, Flora?" She glared into the eyes of Flora.

"Yohana, mind your language. She is my mate and the next Luna of this pack," Alvaro raised his voice at his elder sister.

"You all are a bunch of cowards," Yohana commented, "especially you, Alvaro. I hope you never sleep in peace."

Alvaro clenched his fists. "Because you helped me become the alpha, I will not say anything to you, Yohana. For the last time, I only want to say that it is for the pack. I needed to make this difficult decision for my people," he announced.

"If you had told me to go to Iskander's court, I would have gone by myself. You didn't have to sell me. I am your blood sister," Yohana's voice cracked as she broke into tears. She had been strong so far, but that demeanor couldn't stay for long.

"The carriage is set for you. You should leave, Yohana," Alvaro announced.

"Alvaro, I hate you," Yohana said and walked out of the hall in anger. She wiped the tears from the back of her palm and ran to her room. She cried for a while in solitude, wondering what Iskander would do to her.

Unlike the other female werewolves, Yohana was strong-minded. She could run away if she wanted. However, if she took such a step, Iskander would bring calamity on the Night Silver Pack.

"Miss Yohana! I request you to open the door or else, I have to break this door," Collins said from the outside.

Couldn't they let her even cry in peace? Yohana ignored Collins' words and went to the balcony of her room. She wanted to see the view from her balcony for the last time and recall the cherished moments she made all these years.

Her solace was broken when Collins stepped into the balcony. "Forgive me, Miss Yohana. But if you do not reach the palace of the Werewolf King by the evening, everything will be destroyed," he explained.

Yohana ignored his words and took a deep breath in before exhaling it. 'I will miss all this,' she said to herself and turned around.

Taking her cloak, she wrapped it around herself and stepped out, followed by Collins.

Alvaro watched his sister as she entered the coach. Unable to meet her gaze any longer, he stayed in his place.

As the carriage began to move, Yohana's eyes met her brother's through the window for the last time before she pulled down the curtains. "If Mother and Father were alive, they would have punished Alvaro for what he did to me. The life I lived here so far will come to an end soon," she murmured.

Yohana knew in the palace of the Werewolf King, she would be treated worse than the servants. Because she would be a slave and worse, a slave to the King.
