Chapter 3: Different From The Scarlet He knew.

As she came to the realization that she had inexplicably traveled through time to become a character in a novel, and was now trapped as the consort of the devil, a shiver ran down her spine.

He snapped his fingers to capture her attention, noticing that she was lost in thought. "What are you thinking of?" He asked, arching an eyebrow.

"Nothing," she averted her eyes, fearing both him and the potential danger he posed.

Though the people saw him as a devil literally, he was far from ordinary. She had now learned the truth after finding herself within his world, where everything was predetermined.

"The day Scarlet was attacked, I remember scarlet received a mysterious letter," Kayla shared, recalling the event as she spoke as if she wasn't talking about herself.

Jareth gave her a suspicious look, remembering that Ilvia had claimed to have no memory of the incident and the way she sounded like she wasn't referring to herself.

"Where is the letter that was sent to you?" He inquired, raising an eyebrow.

Kayla scanned the room and rose from her seat, making her way to the wooden dresser adorned with various ornaments. She retrieved the crinkled brown paper and passed it to Jareth.

Carefully unfolding the letter, Jareth noticed it was clearly meant to remain hidden because of the rope tied around it. As he looked into its contents, Kayla couldn't help but think, "I hope he realizes it's written by Vera."

He cleared his throat and met Kayla's gaze before stating, "I will uncover the sender of this letter."

Internally, Kayla groaned. She couldn't believe he was so oblivious. Consort Vera was his lover, yet he failed to recognize her handwriting. She scoffed in her mind.

Jareth rose and turned to leave. Kayla's voice stopped him in his tracks. "Just be cautious," she urged.

Those words struck a chord with Jareth. He glanced at her one last time before departing with a slight nod.

He hadn't expected her to show concern for him. Hastily, he made his exit, accompanied by his eunuch and five maidservants, all keeping their heads lowered.

His mind was filled with questions, but he couldn't shake the sensation that there was more to the letter than met the eye.

His mind was consumed with an inexplicable feeling of disquiet, yet he couldn't pinpoint the source. As he caught a glimpse of her, he noticed a subtle shift in her demeanor.

The meek Scarlet he knew always kept her emotions hidden, even when he attempted to engage in conversation with her. But the Scarlet standing before him now was a complete contrast.

If it had been the previous Scarlet who received the letter and somehow survived, she would have kept it as a closely guarded secret.

Entering his study room, he settled himself at his desk to work on some documents. A knock on his door disrupted his focus.

"Enter," he said, his gaze unmoved from his work.

"What is it?" he asked, not bothering to look up, already knowing who it was. It was a raynell bringing him news.

"Your highness, we have found some of the assailants-" Commander Raynell reported to him.

His statement made Jareth pause and glance up, leaning back in a nonchalant manner.

He then revealed a sly smile and said, "Take care of them."

Commander Raynell bowed and turned to leave, but Jareth's voice stopped him in his tracks.

He suddenly remembered Scarlet and inquired, "How deep did consort scarlet fall into the pool"

"I am curious that she has managed to survive, considering the amount of water she consumed. She should have died long ago," Raynell stated, studying Jareth's expression."Why do you ask?"

"Raynell, can you investigate the sender of this letter?" Jareth said, stretching his arms and speaking in a more familiar tone, using his first name. Although they were close friends, Raynell preferred to be addressed as "Commander" when it involved their official duties.

"Of course, your highness," Raynell responded, taking the letter and bowing before departing.

Kayla had instructed her maidservant to grant her privacy and ended up drifting off to sleep. She woke up to find herself still in the same chamber. Looking around, she realized she was alone. A heavy sigh escaped her. She was all by herself in this forsaken era, confined in a prison of her own making.

In the present moment, her only objective was to escape Elvonia and break free from this time period. With determination, she had managed to elude multiple guards without alerting their attention.

Kayla skillfully navigated through the large opening she had diligently carved at the back of her chamber over the course of several hours. It was no minor achievement, considering the stringent security measures in place.

Her discomfort was palpable as she struggled to walk in the long, floral gown they had forcibly dressed her in. Lifting the hem, she aimlessly roamed the area.

After what seemed like an endless trek, exhaustion finally caught up to her. It was then that she realized she was lost and desperately needed water. She found herself in a dense forest, and despite her best efforts, she could not find her way back.

Suddenly, a menacing growl echoed from a nearby vicinity, similar to the one she had heard the previous night. Fear consumed her, and she hastened her pace, hoping to evade any danger.

But soon, she heard inhuman footsteps approaching at a much faster rate than her own. She tried to quicken her steps, but her foot collided with a large stone, causing her to cry out in pain. She instinctively knew that this new threat was even more dangerous than the one she had faced before in her world.

The sound of rustling leaves grew louder, and she looked up to see five creatures with sharp claws and bloodied, unsanitary mouths surrounding her. They seemed to be of a higher caliber than the ones she had encountered before.

She screamed for help, praying that someone would hear her and come to her aid. As it was highly likely that she would die alone, with no one aware of her fate. This was her life - abandonment, loneliness, and the possibility of vanishing without a trace in her own world.

"Is anyone there? Please, I beg of you, I need help" Her words reverberated through the dark forest. What was she supposed to do? This was not a scenario she had encountered in the script.
