19.76% And He Was

Chapter 34: .

After a day's passing, Sebastian had still not woken up, so Jylan decided to look around his house for clues as to why the heir to the throne had become sleeping beauty.

The wolf was now obediently following him around everywhere, staring at the suspicious butler with hopeful eyes. "I don't have any food for you." Jylan informed it, but the thing didn't seem to understand.

"Hm. perhaps you need a name." Jylan considered, smiling. The wolf, sensing the change in mood, wagged its tail playfully.

"Ah, well. I'll ask Sebas to come up with one when he wakes up." Jylan said, steering past the fact that the prince could not possibly wake up if he sat around and did nothing.

The first place he looked was, strangely, the cookbook. There was a small section in the back that said "Remedical dishes", and Jylan was curious about any cookbook that had resulted in those phenomenal pancakes, so he flipped to the back and passed a particularly putrid clump of mold.

"Oh, here it is." Jylan said, arriving at a page that read, "Remedies for Curses Because Witches are Everywhere These Days." Of course, in the same sraggly handwriting as on the other pages that made it so that it took Jylan a full minute to read those words. Perhaps the person who had diligently copied book after book was tired of writing. Maybe that's why the handwriting was so messy. Unless, if somehow possible, the writing had never been neat in the first place.

"' This dose of herb is a powerful one and will erase the person's memory of the last three hours before they fell asleep. For less inconvenience, this has been formatted from a dish into a beverage, or potion.'" Jylan read aloud, stuttering over a few of the unreadable words. His hands clenched around the paper.

"Come on, it's not too bad," Jylan told himself. "He's only going to forget the story, making breakfast with me –" At this, he let out a small chuckle and his cheeks flushed "– and saying sorry. And becoming friends with me. Not too bad at all!"

But his words didn't do much to help. Jylan's heart was now thudding in his chest, and he felt something burning on his face sliding down his cheek, he realized he was crying.

Sniffling, he wiped his nose with his sleeve and began to look for the herbs to make the dish.
