Chapter 35: Memories (3)

"Yawnnn~" Nicolas woke up and headed to the bathroom to freshen up. After a short while, he exited, closing the door behind him.

He descended the stairs, spotting a familiar figure seated on a chair. "Henry, you are awake!" He eagerly approached and took a seat near him.

"Good morning, Did you sleep well, Nicolas?" Henry greeted him with a smile.

"Good morning, Henry! Yep, I slept well." Nicolas politely replied. "Are you gonna leave today?" He asked with a hint of sadness in his voice.

"Yes… I have to leave now because my team members must be worried about me. I need to find them and get back to the city." Henry answered, nodding his head.

"C-can I come with you?! I want to go to the city!" Nicolas hurriedly asked, hearing about the city.

"No! Don't even think about it, Nicolas!" A loud shout came from the kitchen. Nicole came out of the kitchen and took a seat in front of Nicolas. She kept glaring daggers at Nicolas for a while before turning her gaze towards Henry.

"I am sorry, Nicolas rarely gets to meet anyone and he gets a bit too excited. Please don't mind him." She apologised for her son's behaviour.

'Huh?! What do you mean rarely?! I've never met any other person than you in the past 2 years.' Nicolas thought to himself, rolling his eyes.

"Not a problem, Nicolas is a good boy. I would gladly take him to the city with me but there are countless ferocious beasts in the forest." Henry replied.

"Mommy, I can go with Henry! I don't fear those beasts!" Nicolas hurriedly spoke, not letting his mom say anything. He didn't want to miss this golden chance. Who knows when he'll get to visit the city if he missed this chance.

Nicole's heart ached as she firmly responded, "No!" She wanted to grant her son's heartfelt wish to reunite with his friends, but she was concerned for his safety. Leaving him in the care of a stranger was like risking his life, and even if he made it to the city safely, how would he return back?

'I am sorry, son. You're not going to the city anytime soon. You'll have to grow up and become stronger in order to live a comfortable life in the city.' she thought in her mind.

"If Nicolas really wants to go back to the city, why don't you let him come with me, Ma'am?" Henry questioned, raising an eyebrow.

Nicole pondered for a moment before answering, "I am sorry, but I don't want to trouble you."

"No, I am fine with it. Infact, I have a better idea. Why don't you guys live in the city? I can arrange a nice house for you guys and provide you with food and other stuff." Henry suggested with a smile on his face.

"U-uh?! No…! We can't afford living in the city…" Nicole shook her head, politely rejecting his offer. Why would she even live in such an isolated place if she could afford living in the city?

"Ah, don't you worry about money. I will prepare everything for you for free! You saved my life afterall." Henry replied. His reply greatly shocked Nicole. Nicolas on the other hand became excited. This was a jackpot in his eyes.

"Mommy, Henry is such a good person, he has good intentions towards us! We can't refuse his offer!" Nicolas took the chance to speak, not giving his mom any time to refuse the offer.

He couldn't even think about letting go of this golden chance. He looked at Henry as if he were looking at God himself. In his eyes, Henry was like an angel who descended from the heavens.

"No means no, Nicolas! We can't be a burden on Henry!" Nicole glared at Nicolas. She was excited when Henry told her that he would prepare everything for free, but then again, she was the kind of woman who would never want to be a burden on someone's shoulders. Also, Henry was still a stranger to them, if she took one wrong step, she could lose everything.

"Not at all Ma'am. I can at least do this much for you. You are my saviour afterall. If I can't do this much for you guys, then I'm better off dead." Henry spoke. He sounded like a professional because his job was to persuade customers to visit his shop and buy stuff. He was good at building trust and was respectful, unlike some other merchants in the city.

Pondering for a long while, Nicole first turned her gaze towards Nicolas and then towards Henry. She sighed and finally answered. "Alright, if that's what you want, I will gladly accept your offer." She finally gave in.

'I will just return back if things go wrong.' She thought to herself.

"That's great! It's decided then! We'll go to the city! Thanks a lot, Mommy!" Nicolas jumped up from his chair, showing how excited he was. He was successful in persuading his mom. He ran outside and walked towards Mikey's house.

"Hey Mikey! Come out!" He knocked on the wall of the dog house, stirring Mikey awake from his sleep.

"Woof-" Mikey slowly left the small dog house, rubbing his cheek on Nicolas' leg. Nicolas immediately hugged him, feeling his warm and fluffy fur on his skin.

Mikey started licking his cheeks, making them sticky. "Stop Mikey, it tickles!" Nicolas laughed and let go of him.

"I have good news! We're going to the city!" As soon as he finished his sentence, Mikey's body started trembling. Nicolas looked at him and said, "Don't worry! The wolves can't do anything to us! We've a strong person by our side!" He assured Mikey, caressing his soft fur.

"I am super excited!"
