Chapter 2: Farm Life with My Grandparents
The sun peeked through the curtains as the alarm clock rang at exactly 8 a.m., together with Grandmother Mely's lovely nagging at the door to Etheena's room.
"Wakey wakey, my darling. The breakfast is ready. You have to wake up now, eat your breakfast, and get ready, or else madam Heihei would pain your butt later." She then goes back at the kitchen and looks at her husband having his morning coffee at the dining table "Darling's granpa, does your back still hurting? I think you should really take break from your gardening" said worriedly.
"Honey, don't worry I'm still well and kicking. At this rate, I think I can still do more of shoveling" Grandpa Shaw replied enthusiastically.
Granma Mely could just helplessly smile towards her husband's antics.
Grandmother Mely or Melody Sy is a lovely and softspoken old woman. She and her husband has taken care of Eshleah alone ever since Eshleah was a baby. Grandmother Mely was a well-known businesswoman back in the day. She is a British descendant of a prestigious family. Thus, she was in an arranged marriage with an Heir from a Chinese prestigious family, Shawn Sy. He build his own empire all thanks to his genius mind with little to no help from his family. They are match made in heaven with looks, personality and wealth. He and Grandmother Mely fortunately, both fell in love with each other eventually during their marriage and were blessed with two children. But with great wealth comes with enemies. Their eldest child, being a boy and the youngest being a girl. Steven Sy, their eldest child, grow up as an intelligent, handsome, fine and dependable man, he later on inherited their empire, whereas Ellize Sy, the youngest child and the apple of the eyes of the Sy Family, pursue her dream to become a doctor but during a medical mission abroad she meets Etheena's father and cause the start of the Sy family's misfortune. Ellize Sy came home from abroad, pregnant out of wedlock, lip-tight about who fathered the child on her stomach. The Sy Family is very angry at first at her but they couldn't resist her and accept that it is what it is. This news is then use by the Sy family's enemies to attack them from all directions. But this does not waver the Sy family at all. They easily solve this little predicament but what pushed the Sy family to lay low from limelight is that during Ellize Sy's pregnancy, she got into an accident causing her to prematurely gave birth to little Etheena, the Little Treasure of the Sy family. Fortunately, the mother and child survived from this accident but due to this, little Etheena got a little health complication, thus her grandparents decide to take care of her in the countryside to nurse her back to health and treat this as their retirement. The Sy family has close bond thus they do not find fault on Ellize Sy's mistake and forgive her, they continue with their lives as if nothing happened. Ellize Sy gets back to her career and never talk about Etheena's father. She would visit Etheena once a week and has close mother- child bond with her child. The Sy family also agreed to have a family gathering once every 1-2 months to keep their family bond strong.
On the soft and comfortable bed wherein Etheena is comfortably lying, Etheena slowly reaches out to turn off the alarm clock, stands up, and walks into the curtains to fully let the sunlight enter the room. Peacefully staring at the surrounding outside and replies to her grandmother, "Yes, Grandma. I'll be there in a while." Said excitedly and goes out of her room.
