Chapter 2: Too much money?

"Good morning, sir. I am Wen Qing one of the managers of GSH. I heard that you want to book a presidential suite for a month?"

"Pretty much. I am drenched and would like to get this over and done with."

"Certainly. Do you have a membership card?"

"No, first time coming here."

"Well, the suites that we have are reserved for our loyal customers in case of an emergency. Seeing your… current state, it qualifies as an emergency, you wouldn't mind paying a premium for a membership, sir?"

"Ms. Wen doesn't have to be so careful. Just arrange everything as fast as possible. Give me a room first and we can iron out everything else later."

"Alright. You can pay for a night first and I will come find you later to discuss other matters."

Han Li breathed a breath of relief when he heard all this. It was simpler than he expected.

Poverty limits one's imagination, but it could also fuel some. He had always thought that such rooms were exclusive and there was some convoluted cultist-like procedure to go through.

It was quite refreshing when he finished paying for a room. 11,000 yuan barely made a dent in his balance which left Wen Qing gaping in astonishment.

Han Li was uncomfortable allowing her to see his balance, but it was also understandable for her to ask for a look. Hell, just going by what he was wearing, it was already commendable that they spent so much time talking civilly.

At least from the little knowledge he had, which was mostly from badly written web novels, this reception was outstanding.

Han Li was led by one of the staff and was taken to room 1666.

"Sir, do you need anything else."

The lady asked respectively as her eyes not so subtlety did a once over on his attire.

"Totally forgot about that. Do you have a set for these kinds of situations?"

His outfit was… bad. His current state and quality aside, the outfit was somewhat small and did not match well. Everybody could tell that it was something cheap.

Just thinking that this was the best he could put together for the class reunion made him want to laugh.

"Certainly. We can have someone run for your preferred outfit right away, sir."

"Right. Have Wen Qing arrange for that. I do not have a particular preference. Let her decide, as for measurements…"

Han Li looked at himself and decided to get a size larger than what he was wearing now.

After sending the girl away, Han Li entered the room and surveyed it and he was left speechless. Countless things made him swallow hard, but he was too clueless to know what they were or their value for that matter.

The only thing that made him feel the difference between him now and yesterday was the sheer size of the room. The damn thing was four times larger than his pitiful single. And that was before he looked at other rooms in the suite.

"Now I feel somewhat depressed."

Just thinking that this was the kind of luxury rich people experienced while he was working his ass off just to pay for that cramped cube…

"Yeah, a bath."

Han Lu did not continue to linger as he finally found the bathroom that was already ready and waiting for him.

"Truly deserving of the 5 stars."

It took him another five more minutes just to figure out what did what and after a thorough wash, he got into the jacuzzi tub and a sigh involuntarily escaped his lips.

"That hits the spot."

He would have slept there were it not for the doorbell that alerted him.

After getting dry and wearing a bathrobe, he made his way to the door where Wen Qing was waiting for him with a couple of bags.

'Designer clothes just casually… I should start getting used to this.'

"Come on in."

Han Li invited Wen Qing in not minding her roaming eyes that looked at his muscular chest and slightly exposed abs. Extreme Physique was no joke.

It was still okay when he was dressed, but when he got naked, even he got dazed for a moment.

"I got you all the necessary essentials. I hope you don't mind my choice of brand."

"Doesn't matter, never used any of these things anyway."

Han Lu replied off-handedly not knowing that this bit of information had already fueled Wen Qing's fantasies about young masters and hidden family powers.

"I have also arranged everything for your stay and only the payment remains."

Wen Qing deftly arranged everything on the coffee table as she retrieved a card reader from somewhere. These things were getting smaller and smarter than Han Li could keep up.

"That was fast. Here, you can complete everything on your own."

Han Li handed Wen Qing the card as he left with the clothes to another room. He came out a little later to find Wen Qing slightly dazed.

"What are you thinking about? Does it look good?"

"Ah, y-yes Mr. Han."

"I don't like the mister. You have great taste by the way."

"Thank you, Mr. Han"

"…"

After that, Han Lu started asking some things that should have been common sense for someone as wealthy as him, but Wen Qing did not find it weird.

This perfectly aligned with her theory on Han Li's 'story' and it got her excited. It was to the point that she agreed to take him out shopping after she got off duty at 1100 hrs.

After sending the overly excited lady away, Lu Fan went back and started thinking about what to do after this.

First was of course to taste the hotel's breakfast, it was free after all, but he still needed to think about what to use 1 billion yuan on.

Even with his extravagance, he had yet to use a sum equivalent to what he had managed to save before the system came along.

This alone showed how difficult it was to consume a billion yuan and still manage to not gain any assets in return.

That was the most frustrating part. Just spending over 200,000 yuan already got him philosophical, thinking about the divide between the rich and the poor, what would burning through a million, a billion do to his mental state?

That was a billion yuan!?

He could own a couple of buildings and start collecting rent and live like a salted fish if he were to go back home.

The property his parents left him was still there and he could very well build a decent mansion in the village. But no, he had to 'waste' all of it.

As for giving it away? Forget about it. Systems and charity don't rhyme very well.

He was also uncomfortable giving the money away just like that. The amount was just too insane in his eyes and what was even more insane was that this amount was not enough to help everybody.

While he was just using it as an excuse to get out of the habit of giving beggars money, he had developed the habit of looking at the needy wholesomely.

Help one at a corner, and a few steps ahead you will find a dozen. By the time you were done with the block, you'd be broke. It was painfully realistic and he had struggled with this when he was new to the city. Some of these beggars were part of organized groups that would make more money in a day than what he could earn in a month, and that was a conservative estimate.

Downtown Shangwei was dark like that.

It was better to give the money to a charity fund of some sort for them to manage the whole process. But that could wait till he was done with the mission.

He did not know if there was also a caveat to using this billion on something that could not be considered consumption.
