Chapter 9: Star City Police Department and First Battle

Felicity was the only one responsible for the facial recognition software, and she was invited to lead her team, which actually consisted of three subordinates... to develop an initial version and deliver it to the police.

"Why the initial version?" Felicity wondered why not the best? Don't we want to fight crime?

Wouldn't it be impossible to continue cooperating with the police after providing the most advanced version? A one-time deal was never Thea's goal. She needs to maintain a long-term friendly cooperative relationship with the police. With ongoing cooperation between the police and Queen Group, her family's image will naturally improve.

Of course, these words couldn't be said to Felicity, who is full of justice. Thea explained another reason: "If we give the latest version, they will definitely doubt if we did something illegal with this software before. And they would wonder if we haven't done this before?"

That's obvious. She must have done it. Felicity hacked into servers and killed more people than Malcolm. She can control a satellite to see what people around her are doing and invade others' privacy. Look. Looking at the new senator lover, the total of her crimes would be enough for ten years.

In fact, she did this ten years ago. Staying at home is a state, and it's the same at home and in prison. It doesn't have much impact on her. There are people in prison who cook and clean for her. The main point is that American law is very bad. There is a special system for hackers while serving their sentences. The rule about how long you can't touch the computer for too long can drive Felicity crazy. If she doesn't touch the computer for three days, she will definitely start thinking about jailbreaking!

"Thank you, Thea, you still care about me." Felicity was a little depressed.

"Come on, hug me and don't cry, be nice!" Thea is increasingly fond of this girl five years older than her. Although she's a bit immature, she's simple, kind, and has a sense of justice. These qualities are almost everything she envies, and they're also hers. What I don't have...

Pulling away from the hug, Felicity rolled her eyes, "I'm not a child, I'm strong!"

The two had an intimate quarrel a few times, and Thea told her that if there weren't enough people, she could recruit a few more, but the sooner the better.

Just because the software was fully handed over to Felicity doesn't mean that Thea has nothing to do. The million Moira paid is not just the cost of purchasing the software, but also includes everything that follows. And that doesn't happen. This means that our Queen Group, if I want to send something to the police, the police will definitely accept it. There's still some work to be done here.

Fortunately, there are people at the station who don't hold grudges but there are grudges like Detective Lance and the Queen family that could fill a book, but at least they know each other. One impression is better than no impression.

If she were to go directly to Detective Lance, the matter would likely be rejected. Although he had no direct animosity towards her, it was by no means a good relationship. It seemed that she could only resort to Laurel as an intermediary.

I called Tommy and asked him to help me arrange a meeting with Laurel, and the three of us went to the Big Belly Burger restaurant to talk.

Tommy had been counting ants in a boring way all day long. Looking at any company report for ten minutes would definitely cause symptoms like coma and dizziness. His eyes, which used to be full of energy, were now filled with fatigue.

Upon hearing Thea's call, he put on his coat and hurried out of the company without asking what was going on.

We almost reached the diner, ordered some drinks, and Thea began to describe her purpose to Laurel.

For Laurel, who is determined to dedicate herself to judicial work, the difficulty of obtaining evidence has always been a headache. It's very frustrating to see countless criminals walking free due to lack of evidence. If this facial recognition software enters the field of police and prosecution, case resolution efficiency will undoubtedly be greatly improved. She didn't understand why there would be any obstacles to discussing such a good thing. Are there any?

"Thea, this is a good thing, is there anything I can do for you?"

"Yes, our plan is to give the usage rights to the police for free, but we're afraid your father might disapprove. After all, you know, his relationship with our family..." Thea said and pointed to herself and then to Tommy again.

Laurel thought of her father's recent sadness over the death of his youngest daughter. He worked like a normal person during the day and drank all night long. It was hard to say how the honest father of the past would react.

"I think he'll agree. He's the most upright person I've ever known. Thea, you're coming with me. As for you..." Looking at Tommy, who was listening to the story beside her, Laurel showed a mischievous expression. "You'd better go ahead and go to work."

Poor Tommy looked like an abandoned puppy. The two ignored his antics and drove to Star City Police Department.

This is the first time Thea has been to the precinct. To be honest, she's a little disappointed. It's poor, outdated, poorly lit, and not as tall and majestic as she imagined. There are only a hundred or two hundred officers that Thea can see.

In fact, as a precinct that administers a population of one million inhabitants, there are up to 1,500 employees, but the city is very large and if they spread out, there will be no wave at all. The headquarters only keeps a few civilian employees, which gives Thea the illusion that there are two or three big cats and kittens.

TV series and movies are all fake. It seems to the public that there are only a few cops coming and going. If it were like that, with the high mortality rate of American police officers, the show would be canceled after three episodes.

Following Laurel, she found her father, Detective Lance, who is an important figure throughout the Green Arrow series. He is a figure similar to Commissioner Gordon in Batman, and also a tragic hero behind the scenes. Both daughters lived and died, lived and died again, and after repeated plays, his hair, which was now thick like tangled grass, was completely bald by the fifth season of Arrow.

Laurel detailed Thea's plan, and the two looked eagerly at Detective Lance, anxious for his approval.

"Miss Quinn, what prompted you to do this? This isn't Queen Group's style." Detective Lance looked at Thea with crossed hands and a smirk.

"Detective, nobody told me to do anything. I was born and raised here. This is my home. Star City is gradually dying.

Thea took a deep breath and continued: "Maybe Queen Group is guilty in your eyes, but I see that it was Queen Group that brought life to this city. Initially, 50,000 workers were employed by the group. With its production and its subsidiaries, many factories closed, but under these circumstances, we still maintain the employment of 30,000 people, detective, we also hope that Star City will get better and better, and we will do that.

Seeing the frown disappear from his face, Thea knew her words had some effect: "Fighting crime is not just the accusation of the Star City police, but also the mission of all of us in Star City. opportunity, to prove our worth, not for me personally, nor for Queen Group, but for all the good people living in Star City."

"Dad, I promise, it's not a bad thing." Laurel also convinced.

Detective Lance looked into Thea's eyes carefully for a while and said, "Okay, you've convinced me. I'll talk to the inspector about it. I hope I'm right."

Seeing him about to leave, Thea quickly took two steps and grabbed his arm, saying sincerely, "Detective, I know you're sad about Sarah's death, but the shipwreck also took my brother and my father, please forgive my brother."

Detective Lance's hand suddenly gripped the door frame so tightly that Thea feared he might bring down the entire door.

"Listen here, young lady, I can forgive Queen Industries, but I will not forgive Oliver Queen, not now and not ever in the future, mark my words." After saying this, he glared at Thea, visibly irritated.

Unfortunately, the negotiation failed. As expected, this resentment was not easy to resolve. Oliver was so reckless. How could he be like this? Women always get everything! Yao Fei is such a tough guy and still knew that Oliver would be the one with two beautiful women on Lian Yu. What he did also brought shame upon his own sister.

Although not all the expected results were achieved, at least Lance did not oppose cooperation with Queen Industries, which was a victory. Currently, there is a police inspector above him, but this person has a very good personal relationship with him, and he does not concern himself with daily affairs, focusing solely on managing the business. Thus, the Star City police force is basically overwhelmed by Detective Lance.

This dispute must be resolved as soon as possible, otherwise one day he will feel uneasy and flip the table, ruining his project of saving face.

At the same time, he has to rescue Sarah as soon as possible. Once Sarah returns, all complaints will be resolved, at least the conflict with Queen Industries will be settled. As for whether there will be any tragedy if the two sisters steal a man, that's their family matter. Thea thought she couldn't care less.

Furrowing his brow, he remembered the plot. Sarah Lance should be on that ship now. If Oliver didn't mess with it, it seemed he could still live safely for a few more months.

Knowing she still had some time, she set the rescue plan aside and looked at Laurel, who looked miserable by her side. She didn't know if she was grieving for her sister's death or if she still harbored an old love for Oliver. She couldn't help Thea now. Indifferently, she hugged her and said, "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, Thea, you're stronger than I thought," Laurel said, slightly choked up.

Even though Thea knew Oliver and Sarah weren't dead, she felt a bit sad thinking about the death of her adoptive father, Robert, and quickly changed the subject: "Can you take me back? I still don't have a driver's license..."

Haha, Laurel chuckled softly. The two women returned to the slums together. When they arrived, Thea found out that her software department was very close to Laurel's law office. There was only one street between them. Call me for coffee together next time.

At night, Thea came to the jungle as usual to prepare for today's training. Unbeknownst to her, she had been learning for six months now. She was also proficient in archery, combat, and sword skills. According to Malcolm, she already had common skills of League of Assassins members. Now she just lacked experience.

This is different from the original plot. It might be because birds of a feather flock together. The Flash is surrounded by various speedsters, and the Green Arrow team also has various long-range attackers. There are two archers in the early seasons of Green Arrow, Roy and Thea 1.0. Thea 1.0 was supposed to focus on archery, then fencing, and finally combat.

But Thea doesn't think like that now. In the future, she doesn't really feel the need to join the Green Arrow team. There's no problem in helping out when there are difficulties. After all, she loves her brother, but she might not fully join the team. Well, forget about joining the team.

Her focus has always been on sudden attacks. If she is prepared in advance and brings the corresponding technological equipment, she can still escape unharmed.

But it would be terrible if she were attacked by a stealthy assailant. It would be useless, no matter how good she is at archery practice and knife skills. After all, in the real world, you often spend more time unarmed. Of course, you have to pretend you have antisocial personality disorder and run down the street with a big knife on your back. That's okay too.

But Thea thinks she's sensitive and can't do such amazing things. She has always focused her training on unarmed combat, joint techniques, judo, karate, and KGB fighting skills. In unarmed combat, she can defeat Malcolm in the end. Of course, that's when Malcolm is controlling his strength. The natural inequality of strength, size, and weight between men and women cannot be ignored. This is an issue that cannot be ignored.

After waiting a bit in the dense forest, she wondered why Malcolm, who had always been very punctual, was nowhere to be found today. With her senses fully activated, she noticed several figures on the right side walking and swearing.

Three men who couldn't tell their age appeared. Why couldn't you tell? Because the disguise was too terrible. They all wore black eyeshadow. It was already night, and the surrounding light was a bit dark. Furthermore, all three of them also wore dark clothes and, from a distance, looked like common criminals who always commit crimes.

These people had various decorative rings hanging from their clothes, which were the only things that could shine. They walked crookedly, not as if they were walking, but as if they were sliding.

Where did these non-mainstreamers come from? Although Thea wasn't afraid of these guys, she didn't want to get into trouble. She turned around and prepared to leave the path and wait for Malcolm on the other side of the dense forest.

"Hey, there's a girl there!" An unconventional person with sharp eyes suddenly spotted Thea.

The remaining two had drunk a bit too much, and when they heard what their companions said, they didn't even think, their bodies reacted automatically, and they ran like chickens.

Seeing them coming, Thea didn't intend to flee. She vaguely understood that this was probably Malcolm's test for her. Otherwise, how could these three idiots venture deep into a dark forest in the middle of the night?

It was time to try her own real combat, and Thea was ready to strike first. She wasn't afraid of being defeated, but she was afraid that some idiots would say some disgusting words that would affect her dinner digestion.

She kept the bow, arrow, and dagger aside and moved her body quickly. She felt a little embarrassed facing three men with mental retardation. All three of them seemed to deserve a beating. She had a hard time choosing, not knowing which one to hit first.

"Hey, this girl..." Before a gangster could finish his words, Thea decided it was him. Of course, this wasn't because he spoke first, but because it was scientifically proven. Well, that's it.

There's no need to use any finishing move to deal with some scoundrels. At this stage, Thea's so-called finishing move is a KGB fighting technique similar to Marvel's Black Widow. She jumps and grabs the opponent's neck and then twists her waist to throw the opponent away.

But that trick seems too good, but Thea always feels it's a bit inconsistent when used. On one hand, it's very lethal and can break the neck and drop the head, etc., on the other hand. On the other hand, Malcolm isn't good at teaching this move. It's always a bit weird for father and daughter to be in these positions.

She quickly grabbed the gang leader's right hand and twisted it in the opposite direction. "Crack," she heard a sound like that of a pig being slaughtered.

Seeing that the opponent's back was turned to her and his whole body was wide open, Thea wanted to use a karate move to grab the opponent's ears and kick him down. But when she reached out halfway, she hesitated. This man's ears were covered in thick earrings, like a hedgehog. He would get hurt?

Thea only managed to grab his hair and found out that this guy's hairstyle was also very distinctive. It was worn on his head like a trident. There was a sharp protrusion like that of a Teletubby in the middle of his head, and there were also strong hairs on both sides. It was growing backwards, and looking at the appearance of the hair, still shining green in the forest, Thea felt that there must be a lot of heavy metals in it!

So insidious, are you trying to poison me! After a long time searching carefully, there was no place to start, which left Thea really depressed. For her own safety, she could only switch from karate to taekwondo.

Kicking him in the fold of the legs, making him kneel. He turned around and kicked him in the lower back. It was Thea's fault. If she kicked him directly in the spine with her current strength, the Teletubbies would be damaged in the future. And he would have to lie in bed for the rest of his life. Of course, my kick is not light now.

Two moves took down one idiot, and the remaining two reacted, shouting and launching an attack. The one who was relatively decent just made a regular street fight move, raising his right fist very high and almost shouting "come on." The other left Thea a little irritated, he made a hugging gesture and ran towards her.

This guy definitely didn't mean any good. Thea regretted starting to use bows and arrows. This man would dirty the shoes! These are new shoes I bought a few days ago!

She took a step to the side to let the decent man pass, and, to her incredulous eyes, he flew forward and kicked the poor man in the right face, followed by a left kick and a right kick, and finally shouted "Go to hell!" and then lifted his leg very high, the kick was so violent that it hit the unlucky man's chin with a clear "click" sound. The force of this kick was so strong that his jaw was probably completely broken, and the neck bone and collarbone were also impacted to varying degrees.

The last remaining idiot saw his two unconscious companions and, with a loose head, realized he wouldn't be lucky if he stayed, so he quickly turned around and ran in the direction he came from.

How could Thea let him escape? With such a big target with his back to her, not shooting an arrow would be a big disappointment to her kindness! I just wanted to test my archery skills during this period. I picked up the bow and arrow from the ground, pulled the bow, put the arrow in, and shot with my senses.

The speed of the arrow was extremely fast, like a lightning bolt in the jungle. This man didn't do anything excessive, at least he didn't disgust her, so she gave him a little lesson, so Thea aimed at his calf, and the treatment is good, if you try hard, in three months you can walk with crutches!

At that moment, there was a sound of applause in her ears. "Daddy!" Malcolm, still dressed in black clothes and arrows, said hoarsely, "Well done. It seems you've learned almost all of my tricks, but why didn't you kill them? They weren't good people. Aren't you afraid they'll retaliate against you in the future?"

Thea had been pondering this question since she guessed he would test her. To kill or not to kill had always been an eternal theme in various American and Japanese comics. This subject could be discussed for three days and three nights, and most righteous individuals couldn't insist on it. Not Killing, the representative figure is Batman and The Flash. There are also people who first kill and chop melons and vegetables and finally drop the butcher knife, like my brother, Green Arrow.

But their final choice is not to kill, or not to kill from now on. To kill or not to kill is almost an important dividing line between heroes and villains. If you cross the line, you're a villain; if you don't, you're a hero.

Naturally, Thea couldn't tell her father, the great villain, her theory of heroes, so she could only borrow and slightly modify Batman's theory to deceive her father.

Pointing to the original Teletubbies, "That one leaning against the tree vomiting blood is suffering from symptoms of subacute bleeding, accompanied by spinal edema. If he isn't immediately taken to the operating room, the pressure on his internal organs will increase, rupturing the spleen and causing kidney failure."

Then she pointed to the miserable man on the ground who was almost breathless and smiled, "He's even worse. If this person doesn't receive first aid within 30 minutes, he won't see the sun tomorrow. Even if treated in time, he'll lie in bed for the rest of his life; his central nervous system has been damaged. Unless modern medicine makes a breakthrough, he'll be a disabled person, and depending on the extent of damage to his jaw, he may never speak again."

"As for the guy I shot with an arrow, he'll be crippled for life, even if he recovers from the injuries. The nerve compression in his lower limbs will cause permanent damage. The symptoms can only be judged after seeking medical treatment."

"And I've been in the background since I discovered these three idiots. They didn't see my appearance and didn't seem to be equipped with high-definition cameras or infrared scanners."

Thea said with a cold expression, "As my decision today changed your fate, your original life trajectories may eventually change and become good people, or they may start a family and begin a career and become ordinary people, but in my life, they were all destroyed by strong intervention. Isn't this the magic of destiny?

"You all like to talk about destiny, and I'll talk about destiny with you!" Thea rephrased Batman's theory of not killing villains but beating them to death with the meaning of nihilistic destiny and instantly turned it into an evil version of the manifesto. I just wonder if Mr. Bruce will beat me!

Malcolm didn't expect his daughter not only to form her own worldview but also to have a guiding theory. For a moment, he pondered. Was he killing people and killing the wrong person? Killing is a relief, but keeping is a kind of torture?

Comparing it with my own experience, it really makes sense. When my wife died, she died, and I, a living person, have been suffering for twenty years. Thea is right!

Thinking again of Robert and Oliver, they died as soon as they left, leaving Moira full of grief. It seems that not killing is much crueler than killing!

Although she hadn't thought of her daughter's answer yet, Malcolm had already partially agreed with the conclusion. Thinking of something else in his original plan, he decided to set aside the dispute and get straight to the point first.

"If what you said is right or wrong, it's your opinion. That's fine. You asked me to train you in the first place. I fulfilled your wish. Now, there's only one last step. Let me see the results of your training." Malcolm said as he unsheathed his katana, pointed it to the ground, and walked slowly towards Thea.

It seems that tonight's exercise isn't over yet. Looking at his posture wielding the katana, do you want me to have an honest duel with you? Just kidding, my biological father is much stronger than a small gangster. Thea didn't dare to be careless; she drew her bow and shot the arrow, and used her powerful perception to take the lead in the attack.

"Pop" and "Pow," the arrows kept going towards Black Arrow. Thea shot six arrows successively, covering all the space around Malcolm. She knew this wouldn't pose any obstacle to Malcolm, so she still got him before he got her. With weapons on the ground, a long knife, and a dagger, they turned and hid in the shadow of the trees.
