Today, in the forest where the tree spirit leader, Mō, resides, various yokai continued to visit.
"Is everyone here?" A plump man looked around.
"Yūrei and Kaito haven't arrived yet." The woman with a voluptuous figure next to him responded, "Really, that Yūrei, she moved into Kaito's place a few days ago, didn't she?"
"Ah, don't be jealous of me, Kieji."
Yūrei's voice arrived, followed by the fluttering of butterflies. A girl in colorful clothes and a young man in simple black attire arrived hand in hand.
"You've arrived. Really, you're not shy at all, Yūrei," Kieji teased with a seductive smile.
Yūrei seemed unconcerned, "You're the one. We're yokai. Why should we follow human conventions?"
"Yūrei's right," another girl in red clothes with a cold face nodded.
"Really, Kaori, you don't get the joke," Kieji looked at the girl in red somewhat helplessly.
Kaito, ignoring the yokai women's nonsensical chatter, greeted everyone, "Hello, everyone. Sorry, I'm not late, am I?"
Everyone nodded in response.
"Now that everyone's here, Yūta, Saburō, Onikiri, Kaori, Kieji, Yūrei, and Kaito," Mō, who had been silent, spoke, "I called you all here to discuss our next plan."
"Just following Mō's orders will do," Yūta, patting his plump belly, laughed heartily.
"We yokai aren't really good at strategy. Let's leave the planning to Mō and Kaito. We'll act according to the plan," Saburō, the short one, added.
Soon, the others agreed as well.
"Hey, hey, you're all too good at slacking off," Kaito complained helplessly.
"No choice," Saburō looked up at Kaito, "In the many years before Kaito's arrival, we made no significant progress. Thanks to you, the situation has improved."
"Kaito is really smart. Don't be modest, our current situation is already quite good," Yūrei also agreed.
Kaito didn't overly humble himself and proceeded to explain in detail the intelligence he had gathered recently and the action plans he had prepared.
Yokai tend to be straightforward and brutal; their thoughts do not align with humans. They lack the patience for detailed planning and strategizing.
Before Kaito's arrival in Ōeyama, their only plan was to wait.
Should the Otsutsuki reappear, they would stake their lives to battle them. If not, then there would be nothing to worry about.
Since Kaito's arrival and his understanding of history, he actively proposed a series of action plans, which granted him significant influence.
The seven yokai gathered were the oldest and strongest in Ōeyama, essentially the seven leaders of the yokai.
Mō, a tree spirit that appeared even before the ancient times.
As tree spirits rarely move, Mō chose to stay to protect Ōeyama during the last war and is one of the few great yokai that survived.
Yūta, the leader of the tanuki clan.
Due to the tanuki clan's strong transformation and camouflage abilities, they survived the war as intelligence officers.
Saburō, the youngest of the famous Kamaitachi brothers from the war.
His two brothers perished, and he is the only yokai who survived that war.
Onikiri, a tsukumogami of swords.
A famous sword left by a warrior who died on the battlefield, which later became a tsukumogami after being brought to Ōeyama, now one of the strongest yokai in combat.
Kaori, originally a higanbana (red spider lily) from Yomi (the underworld).
She escaped the catastrophe when Kaguya Ōtsutsuki destroyed the underworld using the God Tree, the only yokai born in Yomi that survived.
Kieji, a spider yokai.
Spider women, usually known as Jorōgumo in human legends. Although born after the war, inheriting stories from her predecessors, Kieji became one of the few yokai still known among humans today.
"It wasn't really a battle. That was just a fragment of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki's consciousness, not comparable to her real self," Kaito clarified, "And the one who attacked us was that strange entity named Black Zetsu."
"According to Kaito, if the human organization known as Akatsuki progresses smoothly, Kaguya Ōtsutsuki will soon descend upon our world," Onikiri said with a serious expression, "We must prepare for battle."
Saburō, with his normally cute face, suddenly turned fierce, "Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, I will avenge my brothers."
"Everyone, be cautious. We might face more than just Kaguya Ōtsutsuki," Mō warned with a grave expression, "Don't forget, Kaguya wasn't alone when she came to this world a thousand years ago. There was a man named Isshiki Ōtsutsuki who worked with her, fighting side by side."
"But wasn't Isshiki Ōtsutsuki killed by Kaguya later on?" Saburō looked at Mō, puzzled.
"Isshiki Ōtsutsuki might not have truly died," Kaito took over the conversation, "Although Kaguya killed him after achieving victory to monopolize the chakra fruit, we must still prepare thoroughly in case that man could also resurrect."
"What a hassle," Yūta patted his belly, looking worried, "Our collective strength as yokai has declined too much compared to a thousand years ago."
"That's why we need to expedite the resurrection plan," Kaito continued, "For the Shikigami project, I'll be heading to the human world soon, and I hope some yokai can join me to add fuel to the resurrection plan."
"We indeed need more powerful beings," Mō agreed, "If those great yokai could be successfully resurrected, our chances of winning would greatly increase. So, proceed as you've planned, Kaito."
"I will, Mō," Kaito nodded, "I hope you can select some yokai skilled in hiding and spreading messages, to revive the legends of the great yokai among humans."
